Malcolm McDowell on Retiring: 'I'll Go On for As Long as I'm Having Fun'
Image
McDowell, at 80 years old, remains an active and enthusiastic actor, with multiple films in production and new projects on the horizon. He plans to keep going as long as he's having fun. In the indie film Cellphone, McDowell plays a mysterious character who communicates only through the titular haunted device. McDowell's willingness to work on small indie productions like Cellphone showcases his support for up-and-coming filmmakers and his enduring passion for the craft.

The face of Malcolm McDowell has been written into the cultural lexicon and seared into the minds of cinephiles everywhere thanks to the eyes-wide-open torture scene of A Clockwork Orange, the utter debauchery of Caligula, the boarding school revolution in If..., and many more classic films. Once the mascot of the rebellious counterculture, McDowell remains a unique and prolific figure more than half a century after gaining international stardom.

At 80 years old, the actor is still appearing in multiple films a year.

‘Cellphone’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Isaac Versaw, Katherine Barber, Whitney Rose Pynn, Jared Noble, Malcolm McDowell, Justin Malik Jackson | Written by Rachel Sommer | Directed by Luke Sommer

As Cellphone opens, Brian (Isaac Versaw; Eleutheromania) wanders through a house, seemingly looking for something or following a trail. The odd thing is he’s not looking at whatever it is directly, he’s using his phone’s camera as some kind of lens. He ends up in the bedroom where Jeanie is sleeping. The next we see of him, he has apparently hung himself.

Wynne is trying to get past the guilt she feels over the death of her fiancé Liam in a car accident that happened while she was driving. Hoping a change of scenery will help, she moves into an old house, formerly an inn owned by Bob who we don’t see, but he does call Wynne on the phone occasionally.

The first...

The classic story of Alice in Wonderland can easily be tweaked into a horror tale, and that’s probably why it’s been done several times over the years. Up next is the indie horror movie Alice in Terrorland, which High Fliers Films just released on VOD and DVD today.

In Richard John Taylor’s Alice in Terrorland, “A recently bereaved teenage girl goes to live with her aunt in a secluded woodland house, unaware that sinister forces lurk within.”

A Prophetic Device in Tech Horror Thriller 'Cellphone' Official Trailer
Image
"What do you want to show me?!" Ugh. Gravitas Ventures has unveiled an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Cellphone, which ranks high on the list of the laziest, most generic film titles ever. Especially considering it is a tech horror about a cell phone with prophetic images on it. How frightening. This is set for a debut in February. Wynne, who is suffering Ptsd from the death of her fiancé, starts seeing disturbing images on her cell phone about her future. If she doesn't figure them out in time, she will die. The film stars Whitney Rose Pynn as Wynne, Malcolm McDowell, Justin Malik Jackson, Jared Noble, Isaac Versaw, and Katherine Barber. The scene where she's yelling at her phone is hilarious - perfect example of why this concept just doesn't work. Way more creativity is necessary to actually make this a scary movie. // Continue Reading ›...
