Exclusive: Rising Spanish-Colombian filmmaker Gala Del Sol has signed with M88 for representation.

Del Sol is coming off the Sundance premiere of Rains Over Babel, her genre-bending debut feature, which she wrote, directed, and produced. Reimagining Dante’s “Inferno” through a queer, tropical-punk lens, the film is set in the mythical City of Maya, a retrofuturistic version of Cali, Colombia, and centers around Babel, a legendary dive bar that serves as a purgatorial meeting point for lost souls. Presiding over this enigmatic establishment is La Flaca, the city’s Grim Reaper, who challenges patrons to gamble years of their lives in hopes of altering their destinies.

After launching at Sundance, Rains Over Babel went on to make its European premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam earlier this month.

Previously, Del Sol was a finalist for the Student Academy Awards with her short film Pasajeros en trance, which was her thesis from Chapman University.

Footage from the sequel series — first ordered at the start of this year and revealed its official title back in May — aired on Disney Channel Friday night, during the broadcast premiere of “Descendants: The Rise of Red,” and introduced fans to the new Alex.

The Reef: Stalked: " In an effort to heal after witnessing her sister’s horrific murder, Nic travels to a tropical resort with her friends for a kayaking and diving adventure. Only hours into their expedition, the women are stalked and then attacked by a great white shark. To survive they will need to band together and Nic will have to overcome her post-traumatic stress, face her fears and slay the monster."
