Dan Ziskie, an actor known for his roles in “House of Cards” and “Treme,” died on July 21. He was 80.

His family reported that Ziskie had died from arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

Born in Detroit, Ziskie attended the U. of Michigan where he received a B.A. in English. After working as a crewman for a Great Lakes freighter, Ziskie moved to Chicago and joined the Second City Comedy Troupe, where he worked and collaborated with comedians such as John Belushi, Brian Doyle-Murray and Joe Flaherty.

In the 1980s, Ziskie served as an understudy in the Broadway revival of Paul Osborn’s “Morning’s at Seven,” then worked as a replacement actor in the original production of Herb Gardner’s “I’m Not Rappaport.” Ziskie began working on shows such as “Remington Steele,” “The Equalizer” and “Quantum Leap.” He also appeared in films including “Adventures in Babysitting,” “O.C. and Stiggs,” “Synecdoche, N.

Dan Ziskie, the familiar character actor who portrayed lots of government officials during his long career and the New Orleans construction magnate Cj Liquori on HBO’s Treme, has died. He was 80.

Ziskie died July 21 in New York of arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease, his family announced.

“Dan was a man of remarkable talent and a keen observer of life,” they wrote. “He was as vibrant and multifaceted as the characters he portrayed on stage and screen.”

The Detroit native played NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue in Peter Landesman’s Concussion (2015), and his big-screen résumé also included Robert Altman’s O.C. and Stiggs (1985), Chris Columbus’ Adventures in Babysitting (1987), Roger Donaldson’s Thirteen Days (2000) and Charlie Kaufman’s Synecdoche, New York (2008).

As government types, Ziskie recurred as Vice President Jim Mathews on Netflix’s House of Cards from 2013-17, as U.S. senators on CBS’ Person of Interest in 2012 and NBC’s The Blacklist in 2014 and as the U.

The newly-released Happy Gilmore 2 features the return of several familiar characters, but sadly, a number of cast members from the original movie have passed away in recent years — from Carl Weathers (who played Happy’s mentor Chubbs), to Joe Flaherty (who played Shooter McGavin’s creepy superfan), to Morris the alligator (who played the alligator).

Adam Sandler has now been spotted reprising one of his most beloved roles in the long-awaited Happy Gilmore (1996). The Netflix sequel is now filming, with Sandler being spotted on set sporting a cosy-looking bathrobe and carrying a set of golf clubs as the follow-up brings Happy and his unorthodox swing back to screens almost three decades after the original.

Last night’s Emmys’ In Memoriam paid homage to late TV stars like Bob Newhart, Richard Simmons and Shannen Doherty, but it also omitted some major names. The In Memoriam segment on Sunday night’s Emmy telecast paid respects to Shannen Doherty, Chance Perdomo, Martin Mull, Richard Lewis and many more TV luminaries lost in the past eight months.

Shelley Duvall and Sctv cast member Joe Flaherty, however, were two notable omissions from the revamped annual fixture of the telecast.

Duvall, though perhaps best known for her film work with major directors including Robert Altman and Stanley Kubrick, had a long and substantial TV career and was a two-time Emmy nominee. She created and produced a number of enduring shows, including Faerie Tale Theatre and Shelley Duvall’s Bedtime Stories. Duvall died in July at 75.

Flaherty died in April at 82. His absence from the Emmy segment was awkward given that one of his Sctv costars, Eugene Levy, co-hosted the telecast and another, Martin Short, was a nominee and presenter.

Producers for the 76th annual Emmy Awards have been editing the special “In Memoriam” segment to be featured on Sunday’s ABC ceremony. Since the most recent ceremony was delayed until mid-January, there are only eight months of TV legends who have died instead of the typical 12 months.

The sequel of the 1996 hit comedy is a dual project between Netflix and Happy Madison Productions, Sandler's company.

Sandler hooked a generation of viewers with his crass, blue-collar character infiltrating one of the most white-collar sports.

With his anger management issues and working-class mannerisms, we felt like he was one of us. And we couldn't help but root for him to win.

Happy Gilmore couldn't cut it as a hockey player, but it turned out he was hellah good at golf -- with a custom hockey stick golf club.

And fans loved him, turning golf into a spectator sport that drew all the wrong crowds.

At least, that's how Shooter McGavin -- played by Christopher McDonald -- felt. He tried so hard to earn that gold jacket, only to lose it to a scuzzy amateur golfer wannabe.

If being hilarious is a crime, then, Adam Sandler would be the guiltiest man alive. The actor is just one of those rare comedic talents giving back-to-back hits, which make the audience laugh their heads off. The streamer officially announced Happy Gilmore 2 with Adam Sandler returning in the starring role during its upfront presentation to advertisers on Wednesday.

Released in 1996, Happy Gilmore starred Sandler as a failed hockey player with a power slapshot and massive temper who tries his hand at golf. Nearly three decades later, it remains one of Sandler’s most beloved comic ventures.

Sandler previously expressed interest in making a Happy Gilmore sequel in a 2021. At the time, he floated the possibility of centering the film around a senior golf tournament, but cautioned that nothing had been written.

However, earlier this year, Christopher McDonald, who played Shooter McGavin in the original film, let it slip that Sandler was working on a draft for Happy Gilmore 2. Sandler’s longtime friend and collaborator Drew Barrymore subsequently confirmed (via Sandler himself) that the project was “in process.
