Wes Anderson made his directorial debut in 1996 with Bottle Rocket. Now, almost 30 years later, he’s released his 12th feature film. Anderson emerged from the 1990s wave of remarkable American directors, most famously Quentin Tarantino and Paul Thomas Anderson. In the time Wes Anderson has been making movies, he’s been more prolific than his two contemporaries. PTA has released nine feature films in the same period, and Tarantino nine over a slightly longer stretch (his debut arriving in 1992). The...

The Running Man Star Views New Stephen King Movie as 'Timely' (Despite Dystopian Setting)
Image
In 1982, Stephen King's The Running Man was published, depicting a dystopian United States in the year 2025. More than forty years later, a feature-length adaptation of The Running Man is set to be released in 2025, and one of its stars believes that the dystopian setting feels a little too real now.

Speaking with Empire, Colman Domingo, who plays Bobby Thompson, the host of The Running Man game show, shared how he feels the movie's satirical dystopian world isn't far from the one outside our windows. "I don’t think we have to look too far away from being in a dystopian society. That’s why there’s such a great...

Sausage Party: Foodtopia Season 2 Review: Not a Perfectly Cooked Meal
Image
Sausage Party: Foodtopia returns to a world where the revolution is over and the difficult business of governing has begun. The first season ended with Frank the sausage establishing a society free from human consumption, yet the second season opens on the curdled reality of that dream. Foodtopia is not a paradise.

Resources, specifically precious refrigerated space, are scarce. The oppressive heat causes widespread suffering, and the citizens have grown resentful of Frank’s leadership. His authority is weakened by his unresolved grief for Brenda and his inability to deliver on his promises. The narrative wastes little time on this failing state.

The inciting incident is swift: Frank, along with his companions Barry and Sammy Bagel Jr., is unceremoniously banished from the very community he fought to build, forcing them into the unknown lands beyond the supermarket.

'The Running Man' Delays Release by One Week
Image
2025 is the year of Stephen King, with four different feature films and one television show each being adapted from one of his books. Whether it was the short story The Monkey that was made into a film by Osgood Perkins early in the year, or Mike Flanagan's heartfelt adaptation of the Life of Chuck, or Francis Lawrence's film The Long Walk, King's bibliography has become a source of inspiration for writers and directors to bring his unique visions to life. One highly anticipated adaptation is The Running Man, which is directed by Edgar Wright. However, fans will have to wait a little longer to see Wright's vision for King's novel come to life, as the film has been pushed back to a later release date.

‘The Running Man’ Delays November Release Date By One Week – Film News in Brief
Image
Paramount Pictures has delayed the release of “The Running Man” by one week to Nov. 14. It was previously scheduled for Nov. 7.

Glen Powell stars in Edgar Wright’s remake as the lead of the sci-fi action film. Based on the 1982 novel by Stephen King, “The Running Man” takes place in a dystopian society where contestants on a game show, called “runners,” are pit against murderous killers or “hunters.”

The film’s official synopsis reads that the Runners “must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, with every move broadcast to a bloodthirsty public and each day bringing a greater cash reward. Desperate to save his sick daughter, working-class Ben Richards (Powell) is convinced by the show’s charming but ruthless producer, Dan Killian, to enter the game as a last resort. But Ben’s defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite — and a threat to the entire system.

The Running Man remake moves release back one week, avoiding Predator competition
Glen Powell in The Running Man (2025)
There are two highly anticipated sci-fi action movies coming our way in November, and up until today they had the exact same release date: November 7th. Of course, it wouldn’t make sense for The Running Man remake and Predator: Badlands to reach theatres on the same day, so it makes sense that one of them has moved: Screen Rant reports that Paramount has delayed the release of The Running Man remake one week, pushing it back to November 14th. This new date will also give the movie more access to IMAX screens.

Also being released on November 14th are Now You See Me: Now You Don’t and the Osgood Perkins horror film Keeper.

Four years have gone by since it was announced that Edgar Wright was coming on board to direct a new take on the novel The Running Man, which was written by Stephen King under his Richard Bachman pen name.

Glen Powell's 'The Running Man's Release Date Steps Back to Make Way For 'Predator: Badlands'
Image
The Running Man is slowing down its pace. The dystopian Glen Powell thriller is now expected to reach the finish line one week later. The film was previously set to be released on November 7, 2025, but will now bow one week later, on November 14. The date change will allow the film to hit more IMAX screens, but it will also put it a week away from its R-rated action thriller competition, Predator: Badlands, which it was originally set to open head-to-head against on the 7th.

Moving to the 14th now means it will face off against the stage magic heist thriller threequel Now You See Me: Now You Don't, the fantastical Elizabeth Olsen/Miles Teller rom-com Eternity, the Osgood Perkins-helmed horror Keeper, and the Dave Bautista actioner Trap House. It will also put it a week ahead of the musical sequel Wicked: For Good, set to be released on the 21st,...

The Running Man Release Delayed, But It's Not as Bad as Fans Think
Image
Glen Powell is running away from the first weekend of November. Paramount has delayed the release of its upcoming Stephen King adaptation, The Running Man, although not by much.

According to Deadline, Paramount has pushed The Running Man back a week, moving the highly anticipated King adaptation from Nov. 7 to Nov. 14. The delay was reportedly made by the studio to take advantage of access to IMAX screens. With a change of release comes a change in competition, as The Running Man moves away from both the Predator (in 20th Century Studios' Predator: Badlands) and Jennifer Lawrence (in Mubi's Die My Love). The dystopian action thriller will now open opposite Lionsgate's threequel Now You See Me: Now You Don't and Neon's latest Oz Perkins horror flick Keeper.

Edgar Wright at an event for Scott Pilgrim gegen den Rest der Welt (2010)
Edgar Wright’s (Shaun of the Dead, Last Night in Soho) new movie The Running Man, an adaptation of the Stephen King novel, had been dated for theatrical release on November 7, the very same day that the Predator returns to the big screen in Predator: Badlands. As you might have guessed, one of them was going to have to move. And it’s not the Predator.

The Running Man will now release in theaters on November 14, 2025.

Simon Pegg To Reunite With Edgar Wright, But Not for a Cornetto Trilogy Follow-Up
Image
Simon Pegg, the star of franchises like Mission: Impossible and Star Trek, had his Hollywood breakout when he co-wrote and starred in the 2004 horror comedy directed by Edgar Wright, Shaun of the Dead. However, this wasn't their first collaboration. They had joined forces before for the TV comedy Spaced, which also featured Nick Frost, another frequent collaborator of the duo's creative space. Shaun of the Dead was followed by Hot Fuzz and The World's End, effectively ending what would become known as the Cornetto trilogy. But as important as these were for their respective careers, they haven't collaborated since. That is, until now. Pegg has announced that he will reunite with Wright in order to "write something new."

First, Wright must release his next project, The Running Man. Pegg, on the other hand, must solve the situation of his current production, Angels in the Asylum, which was halted due to lack of funding.

Sausage Party: Foodtopia Season 2 TV Review: Seth Rogen’s latest satirical food fight could give you indigestion
Image
Plot: Exiled from home, Frank, Barry, and Sammy soon find themselves in New Foodland, a shining utopia for food and humans alike. But beneath the city’s glossy fridges and cheery smiles lies a dark secret threatening the sentient food society.

Review: Sausage Party: Foodtopia is a deceptive serving of entertainment. On one hand, it’s raunchy, low-brow, and immature. On the other hand, it’s a subversive, clever, and winking satire that goes down like a steaming forkful of humble pie. It stands at a crossroads between “I’m so glad this exists” and “What the f**k am I watching?” You’re either prepared to buy the ticket and take the ride, or there’s no sense in attending the barbecue. The second season of Sausage Party: Foodtopia is a trail mix of quality, and like any other bag of this unruly snack, there are ingredients I...

Sausage Party: Foodtopia Season 2 Review — Offers Downright Filthy Fun and Big Belly Laughs
Image
Yes, the first season of Sausage Party: Foodtopia can feel like reheated leftovers from the filthy minds of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. I mean, what did you expect from the creatives who brought us Superbad, Pineapple Express, Good Boys, and one of the best animated films of the decade, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem?

Heck, now that these two have created Apple TV+’s brilliant and critically acclaimed The Studio, maybe the naysayers will get off their pedestals and embrace a series that wants to make you laugh—and has a smarter political view than most are willing to admit. Albeit, a downright filthy, humorous, and slant that may be hard to digest.

15 Years Ago, One Of The Most Unique Comic Book Movies Ever Was A Major Box Office Bummer
Image
(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)

"Taking the sensibility of Edgar Wright, before I even knew what he wanted to do with it, and applying it to that material, I knew in an instant that this could be quite a combustible combination." Those are the words of producer Marc Platt speaking on a making-of documentary attached to the "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" Blu-ray release. Naturally, the material he's talking about was the "Scott Pilgrim" comics by Bryan Lee O'Malley.

Wright was coming off of the success of his now-classic horror/comedy "Shaun of the Dead" and its follow-up, the brilliant cop comedy "Hot Fuzz." Both movies were decent hits that put Wright on Hollywood's radar in a big way. When Universal Pictures was looking to put together...

Despite strong reviews and a loyal fan base, the film earned only about half of its production budget in theaters, making it a commercial disappointment at the time.

Over the years, however, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World has built a thriving second life. Thanks to home video releases, streaming platforms, and an ever-growing online community, it has evolved into a genuine cult classic.

Glen Powell Brings Grit and Humanity to 'The Running Man,' Says Director Edgar Wright Alongside New Image [Exclusive]
Image
This fall sees the long-awaited release of The Running Man, Edgar Wright’s high-octane adaptation of the Stephen King novel. The action-thriller stars Glen Powell in the role of Ben Richards, a desperate everyman forced to enter a deadly game show in a not-so-distant dystopian America — and judging by our intense exclusive image, things are not going well for him. As part of Collider's Exclusive Preview event, we're delighted to reveal a new look at Powell in the film. We can also share a delightful chat we had with Wright, one of the world's most exciting directors of kinetic and stylized action.

Wright, known for genre-defining cult favorites like Shaun of the Dead and Baby Driver, is promising something darker and more faithful to King’s original story — and a whole lot rougher than the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger version. The director says that when describing the movie to new audiences,...

'Never Thought That Would Work': South Park Creators Debunk Fans' Longest-Standing Rumor
Image
South Park’s27th season is now in full swing following a two-year hiatus. The first episode of the season, albeit a controversial one, was the highest-rated season premiere for the raunchy animated series in more than 25 years.

With South Park topping the streaming charts, the series, which debuted on Comedy Central in 1997, is showing no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Per ComicBook.com, the show’s creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, have debunked a long-standing rumor that fans would ever see a fully live-action version of Stan, Cartman, Kyle, Kenny, and the rest of the South Park gang.

Although one would wonder how characters like Towelie, Mr. Hankey, and even Mr. Mackey would translate into live-action versions, Parker and Stone shut down the rumor of any type of full-length live-action version of South Park. At Comedy Central’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Parker and Stone were asked...

Wes Anderson’s A-List Black Comedy Is an Instant Streaming Hit in America
Image
With a new film featuring a star-studded ensemble led by an Oscar-winner, Wes Anderson did wonders with his most recent pic, which is now a streaming hit in the U.S. The Phoenician Scheme, starring Benicio del Toro, hit theaters nationwide on May 30, and less than two months later, on July 25, it landed on Peacock, where it has maintained a very well-deserved dominating spot.

Per FlixPatrol, The Phoenician Scheme is #1 on Peacock in the U.S., a spot it has held on to since arriving on the streamer, except on July 29, when it climbed down to second place. Meghann Fahy’s thriller Drop now takes up that position, with Robert De Niro’s 2023 comedy, About My Father, as #3. Rounding out the top five are the 2008 animation Horton Hears a Who! and Hotel Transylvania 2.

In The Phoenician Scheme, Del Toro portrays a wealthy businessman, Zsa-zsa Korda, who is on the run...

These are the new shows and movies I’m pumped to stream in August
Image
A stacked murder mystery cast, a human-dog tearjerker, and a James Gunn series… August’s looking real good.

There’s a ton hitting the streamers this month, and August might be one of the strongest lineups we’ve seen in a while. There’s another big Prime Video action comedy I can’t wait to watch (they’ve been on fire lately), plus a new James Gunn series I’ll definitely be checking out after loving “Superman.” And while my taste usually leans more comedy, this month’s picks range from high-seas revenge stories to true-crime thrillers to sci-fi prequels from one of the most famous horror franchises ever. So if you’re looking for something fresh to stream, here are the shows and movies I’m seriously pumped about in August.

Dave Franco Reveals Why His Embarrassing ‘Superbad’ Scene Pushed Him to Keep Auditioning
Image
Dave Franco is sharing how his Superbad role turned into one of his most embarrassing moments, on- and offscreen, and actually pushed him to keep auditioning.

In the 2007 buddy comedy starring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, Franco makes a small appearance as Greg the Soccer Player, one of his first onscreen roles. In one of his scenes, Hill’s Seth calls out his character for peeing his pants years prior.

Not only was it an embarrassing scene, Franco revealed during a recent appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, but it also led to a lot of embarrassing fan interactions in public, with people quoting the lines.

“I had a journey with that scene in and of itself, where I only have a few lines in this movie, but the movie was so big that people did recognize me on the street,” the Together actor explained to host Alex Cooper.

Bobbi Althoff Signs Off ‘The Really Good Podcast’
Image
CBS’ The Late Show franchise lasted 33 years, but Bobbi Althoff’s absurdist The Really Good Podcast is signing off after 2 1/2 years.

And, no, costs aren’t to blame, nor are anti-Trump jokes. Rather, Althoff has simply decided to pull the plug.

Althoff, who started as a vlogger on TikTok providing advice to new moms, made a 180-degree turn to doing sit-downs with prolific guests on The Really Good Podcast including Jimmy Kimmel, Shaquille O’Neal, Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Alba, Jason Derulo, Meghan Trainor, Mark Cuban, Offset, Peso Pluma, Michael Cera and more. Her deadpan-uncomfortable Valley Girl shtick had her asking fearless questions that made her guests bristle. Often, part of the bit was being rather clueless of her guests’ feats.

Her interview with Drake, conducted in his bed, put her on the map. Overall, that episode racked up 1 billion views and 300 million likes. The media was baffled as to how she...

The Running Man's Glen Powell On Why He Prefers To Play An Ordinary Guy Over A Superhero
Image
Glen Powell may be closing the door on ever joining the ranks of superpowered heroes in the Marvel or DC universes.

In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, the Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters star revealed he's not particularly drawn to roles that involve capes, cosmic powers, or mutant abilities.

“I just don’t identify with people with superpowers for the most part,” Powell explained, discussing what led him to take on the role of Richards in the upcoming remake of The Running Man. “I like the ordinary guy against extraordinary odds. The entire world is hunting this man, trying to kill him. Can he survive? Can he save his family? That’s a great, simple story.”

Powell's comments seem to dash fan hopes of seeing him play characters like Aquaman or Nova, popular choices in recent fancast discussions.

However, his preference for grounded, human stories doesn’t completely shut...

The Phoenician Scheme: What the Gap Actually Is, Revealed
Image
Wes Anderson's The Phoenician Scheme introduced a complex project called the Korda Land and Sea Phoenician Infrastructure Scheme, and it involved a concept called "the gap." The black comedy movie mainly revolves around Zsa-zsa Karda (Benicio del Toro), an arms dealer and industrialist who, after seeing visions of the afterlife, decides to make amends with his estranged daughter, Sister Liesl (Mia Threapleton). Throughout the movie, Zsa-zsa is hunted down by an unknown killer amid his efforts to spearhead his newfound business venture.

The Phoenician Scheme is imbued with Wes Anderson's style, meaning that some terms or concepts are deliberately vague or not explained thoroughly in the movie. One of these concepts is the gap, a crucial aspect that could make or break Zsa-zsa as his life and business hang in the balance.

Directed by Wes Anderson, The Phoenician Scheme (part of Universal CinemaCon 2025's lineup of announcements...

'I Like The Ordinary Guy:' Glen Powell Explains Why Has No Interest in Playing A Superhero
Image
Though Glen Powell has been linked to many superhero roles, he is set to portray a more normal protagonist in the anticipated remake of The Running Man. His character, Ben Richards, is more of an everyman whom the actor can relate to more easily.

Speaking to Empire about the modernized adaptation of the popular Stephen King novel, Powell explained why Richards appealed to him. "I just don’t identify with people with superpowers for the most part," he said. "I like the ordinary guy against extraordinary odds. The entire world is hunting this man, trying to kill him. Can he survive? Can he save his family? That's a great, simple story."

Powell also said he could see himself in The Running Man remake from the moment the movie was pitched to him, leading him to turn down other opportunities, including Jurassic World: Rebirth. "Sometimes you've got to close your eyes...

The Best Movies of 2025 (So Far)
Image
A24's 'Sorry, Baby' Eva Victor (left) and Naomi Ackie (Right)

10. ‘The Shrouds’ David Cronenberg’s follow up to ‘Crimes of the Future’ flew under the radar after its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024. It follows a businessman that owns “Gravetech”, a futuristic type of tombstone, trying to find out the truth surrounding his wife’s illness following her death. ‘The Shrouds’ is one of Cronenberg’s less gruesome movies but is an extremely haunting vision of life, death, and what falls between. In short, it feels like his most personal. Vincent Cassel (serving as a clear stand-in for Cronenberg himself) quietly delivers one of his best performances to date while Diane Kruger and Guy Pearce give their usual best in supporting roles. “The Phoenician Scheme Will Make You Scream” – A Subhash K Jha Review

The Phoenician Scheme

Director: Wes Anderson

Starring: Benicio del Toro, Mia Threapleton, Michael Cera, Riz Ahmed, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Mathieu Amalric, Richard Ayoade, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rupert Friend, Hope Davis, F. Murray Abraham, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Willem Dafoe, and Bill Murray

Rating: Can’t Be Rated

I don’t like the cinema of Wes Anderson. It reminds me of those disjointed incoherent self consciously capricious film-school projects where the student wants to let the world he doesn’t care a fig about the rules.

Continuing his flabbergasting quest for the crest of quirkiness, Wes Anderson has now come up with The Phoenician Scheme a film that rattles all rationale and stirs up a storm in a teacup. Like other Anderson oddities this one too is visualized in cartoonstrip colours, mostly pale green, and a mood of mythologized satire , which itself is problematic for any serious viewing.
