Newman became known for his role as lifeguard Mike “Newmie” Newman in NBC’s Baywatch, in which he appeared in 150 episodes from 1989 to 2000. Which original “Baywatch” stars want to be part of the planned Fox reboot of the ’90s series?

The cast had mixed feelings when TheWrap talked to them for the new Hulu docuseries “After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun.”

The most enthusiastic performer was David Chokachi, who played lifeguard Cody Madison from 1995 to 1999 on the series, who said “Yeah, sign me up!” without a moment’s hesitation.

“I’ve been pitching a ‘Baywatch’ reboot for years,” he told TheWrap. “At least once every six or seven years, I’d write to the executive producers, like, ‘Why aren’t you guys rebooting the show?’ And finally, they’re rebooting it.”

He said he’s even written a treatment for where Cody has been since 1999, and how and why he comes back to the show. He added, “I think [a reboot will] absolutely, be really popular again. The message of lifeguarding in general is such a positive message.

There was a brief spinoff and a panned movie (more of a spoof than a theatrical remake) and, just recently talk of a reboot. But no ancillary project has ever had the sway of the original: an infinitely exportable ode to a Southern California that never really existed, with its frequently recycled cast of hard-bodied Caucasians. Baywatch star Nicole Eggert has shared a video in which she shaves her head, as she continues to be treated for a “very rare form” of breast cancer.

The actress, who played Summer Quinn on Baywatch from 1992 to 1994, posted the video to Instagram earlier this week. As she took the blades to her hair, the Beastie Boys’ song Fight For Your Right provided the soundtrack. She started the process herself, and was helped by her daughter to finish off.

Eggert shared in January that she had been diagnosed with stage 2 cribriform carcinoma after suffering with pain in her left breast.

She accompanied the shaving video with the words:

Fox is doubling down on lifeguard dramas with a significant script plus penalty commitment to Baywatch, a reboot of the classic beach series. The new iteration is a co-production between Fremantle and Fox Entertainment.

Deadline revealed exclusively last April that Fremantle was working on a Baywatch remake. At the time, Fox already had started conversations with the indie studio for the potential series while also developing another lifeguard drama franchise, Rescue: Hi-Surf, from John Wells Prods. The latter, a co-production between Warner Bros. TV and Fox Entertainment, was subsequently picked up to series for the 2023-24 season; it is now on track for a fall 2024 launch due to strike-related delays.

Meanwhile, Fox remained interested in Baywatch, potentially as a summer series.

The 52-year-old Baywatch alum, who recently announced her breast cancer diagnosis, revealed she regrets getting a breast augmentation at 18 while starring on the hit show.

“I look at all these younger girls doing it and think, ‘God, leave your bodies alone!’” she told People.

“But when you have to put on that one-piece and it’s like, you’re so flat that it’s like, pleating — you got pleats across the front — You’re like, ‘What is this?’” she said.

“Nothing you can do. You can’t stuff it with anything. You can’t do anything.”

“It was a stupid 18-year-old decision,” she added.

She has since undergone a series of breast augmentations, including a reduction that was documented on the E! show Botched in 2015.

Actress Nicole Eggert, who played Summer Quinn, has revealed that she felt uncomfortable wearing her ‘Baywatch’ outfits. The 52-year-old actress was on the hit TV show for two seasons. However, she wasn’t actually aware at the time that she was going to be a ‘Baywatch’ lifeguard.

“All the girls worked out and were super tiny and fit and I was like ‘Whoops’. And the one-piece bathing suits were not flattering. I didn’t want to wear it at all. It just wasn’t what I signed up for. It was a totally different show and ballgame and not where I wanted to be,” she told People.

Nicole decided to have breast implants at the age of 18, amid concerns about her on-screen appearance.

Baywatch star Nicole Eggert announced that she has been diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer.

Eggert said something didn’t feel right recently when she observed rapid weight gain and pain in her left breast. The actress thought she was going through menopause. After having mammograms and biopsies in November, a pathology report confirmed that she had stage 2 cribriform carcinoma.

Eggert said she’ll have to go under the knife and is awaiting news as to when chemo and radiation will start.

She stated that she has anxieties about the cancer metastasizing. “I have panics where I’m like, just get this out of me,” she said. “You sit there and it’s in you and you’re like, every second that passes and it’s inside of me. It’s growing, and you’re just like, you just want it out.”

Her daughter, Keegan, 12, is giving her inspiration to get through the fight.

Originally, she gained 25 pounds in three months and was having “terrible pain” in her left breast in October, but had assumed they were symptoms of menopause. When she felt a lump during a self-exam, she called a doctor.

“It really was throbbing and hurting. I immediately went to my general practitioner and she told me I had to immediately go get it looked at. But the problem was I just couldn’t get an appointment. Everything was booked. So I had to wait until the end of November to get it done,” she said.

After a mammogram and three biopsies, her results came back positive for cancer.

Deadline understands that Fremantle has been developing a reboot of the classic beach drama series and has held early talks with a number of broadcasters and streamers.

The move would bring back one of the biggest shows of the late 1980s and 1990s as the trend towards rebooting classic IP continues. There are currently no creatives attached to the reboot.

The series made international stars of the likes of David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson.

Created by Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz and Gregory J. Bonann, the series followed a group of lifeguards who patrolled the beaches of LA County. Originally produced by Gannett for NBC, the show was canceled after one season.

Filmmakers Matthew Felker and Brian Corso are developing a “Baywatch” documentary and have lined up some of the show’s cast members to appear, Felker confirmed to TheWrap.

“Baywatch: The Documentary” will dive into the cultural impact of the long-running show that ran from 1989 to 2001 and was also adapted into a 2017 movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.

Red Button Films and Antisocial Hero are producing, and Felker and Corso are producing alongside Nicole Eggert, Ari Shofet and Drew Arnold.

The action drama centered on a group of lifeguards who patrol the scenic beaches of Southern California. Actor Scott Baio said at a news conference today that multiple lie-detector tests prove his claims that he did not assault his Charles in Charge co-star Nicole Eggert.

“I have taken five separate polygraph tests given by two highly renowned examiners,” Baio said at a news conference in Woodland Hills that was broadcast on Facebook Live. Baio said the same questions were asked in each of the tests.

Baio recently filed a police report claiming Eggert has been harassing him and his family.

Eggert fired back via Twitter. “Are they aware I am ready to release the police file tomorrow right after their lame Fb rant?” She also called Baio spokesman Brian Glicklich “the person hired to harass me.” Earlier this week, Eggert obtained a temporary restraining order against Glicklich, a Sitrick & Co. crisis manager.
