Glen Powell's Worst Movie Ever, According To Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Glen Powell is having a moment. Propelled by the box office success of "Anyone But You," and its subsequent streaming domination, the most handsome man you've ever seen is slowly taking over Hollywood. His Richard Linklater-directed Netflix film "Hitman" quickly conquered the streamer's charts when it debuted in June, and Powell will soon guide us all into the eye of the suck zone with the upcoming blockbuster legacy sequel "Twisters." Soon after, Powell will face what might be his biggest test yet in Edgar Wright's upcoming adaptation of "The Running Man." But considering the man's resilience — his first film role was in the more-than 20-year-old "Spy Kids 3" — he should be up to the challenge.

It hasn't been an easy road from "Spy Kids" to leading man, however. Take "Misconduct" for instance. You've likely never heard of this 2016 legal thriller, which is probably for the best considering the...

Glen Powell’s Lowest-Rated Movie is So Atrocious That Not Even Al Pacino and Anthony Hopkins Could Save It From Bombing at the Box Office
Image
Glen Powell is now finding his footing in Hollywood after his roster of successful projects over the past few years. From the action thriller Top Gun: Maverick to the romantic comedy Anyone But You, he’s slowly gaining momentum as a rising star.

Glen Powell in Top Gun: Maverick / Paramount Pictures

But, before all these victorious box office hits, he knew what it’s like to star in a major box office bomb. The actor notably appeared in 2016’s Misconduct alongside two veteran stars in Hollywood: Al Pacino and Anthony Hopkins.

Glen Powell’s Major Box Office Flop Only Made A Hundred Dollars On Its Opening Weekend

When a movie stars two of the greatest actors in history, it’s supposed to make money, but that’s not the case with Shintaro Shimosawa’s Misconduct. The film cost $11 million to make, and on its opening weekend, it only earned $141, as per Variety.

Fede Alvarez
In addition to producing a Texas Chain Saw Massacre reboot and directing an upcoming White House horror film, filmmaker Fede Alvarez (Don't Breathe and 2013's Evil Dead) is preparing to direct a new zombie movie.

According to THR, 16 States focuses on "a pandemic, this time with zombies, with a story of a mother trying to reach her family at the center of it. The project has been described as having shades of the Will Smith zombie movie I Am Legend" (based on the novel of the same name by Richard Matheson).

Ranking February 2016’s Movies From Worst To Best
Fox, Paramount & Universal

Hollywood’s dump period thankfully begins to come to an end as February fed audiences another four weeks of misguided projects nobody really asked for… along with Valentine’s fare, counter-Valentine’s efforts, and a few more promising ventures from acclaimed directors.

As far as auteur filmmakers, festival horror and the indie circuit goes, it was a pretty decent February, even if March naturally has a far more promising slate, what with the likes of Zootopia, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Midnight Special and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice all unleashing upon audiences.

From the biggest tentpole releases to the most unassuming VOD drops you’re probably just hearing about for the first time, here are February 2016’s movies ranked from worst to best…

Josh Duhamel decides to take on a big corporation in a legal battle, but soon finds he’s in way over his head, in the first trailer for Lionsgate Premiere’s “Misconduct.” Shintaro Shimosawa directed the indie thriller also starring Anthony Hopkins and Al Pacino. Duhamel plays a young lawyer who thinks he’s landed a huge case, but Hopkins and Pacino, as the heads of a pharmaceutical company, are clearly way ahead of him in the game. Somehow Duhamel gets seduced by Malin Akerman, betrays his wife Alice Eve, and is investigated by Julia Stiles after Akerman’s character dies and he seemingly gets.

A New Trailer For Misconduct Shows An All-Star Cast Working Hard
If movies have taught us anything, it is that nothing good ever comes of cheating on your spouse. Michael Douglas learned the same in Fatal Attraction and, at the other end of the genre spectrum, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau learned the same in The Other Woman. Now, it appears to be the turn of Josh Duhamel, as he finds himself caught in a ‘honey-trap’ in Misconduct – for which we now have a trailer.

The all-star cast makes the film seem very impressive. Al Pacino, Anthony Hopkins, Malin Akerman, Julia Stiles and Alice Eve all join Duhamel in working hard to hit the right notes in the script by Simon Boyes (Hangman) and newcomer Adam Mason. However, if this trailer is anything to go by, the entire endeavour is at risk of collapsing under its own, hefty weight.

Duhamel stars as a young lawyer who attempts to face down a senior and well-connected pharmaceutical executive (Anthony Hopkins). However,...

Anthony Hopkins at an event for Die Legende von Beowulf (2007)
Oscar-winning titans of acting Sir Anthony Hopkins and Al Pacino have appeared in some of the greatest American films ever — The Godfather, Serpico, The Silence of the Lambs — as well as myriad productions of Shakespeare's iconic plays, both on stages and in parks. But, amazingly, they never appeared onscreen together until Misconduct (né Beyond Deceit), the directing debut of The Grudge producer Shintaro Shimosawa, which will probably not join those lofty ranks. The film stars Josh Duhamel (who, unlike his co-stars, has yet to win an Oscar) as an ambitious young lawyer who, as the trailer menacingly intones, travels down that proverbial rabbit hole into a world of deceit and misconduct involving a large pharmaceutical company. Pacino and Hopkins are the best scene-chewers of the last 30 years (see: Heat, Dracula), and they seem to be reveling in the pulp of this legal thriller. Will Duhamel's idealistic lawyer take down Hopkins's...

Al Pacino & Anthony Hopkins in First Trailer for Thriller 'Misconduct'

First Trailer For ‘Misconduct’ Starring Al Pacino and Anthony Hopkins
With decades of stellar work on their resume, it’s somewhat surprising that Al Pacino and Anthony Hopkins never had a chance to collaborate, until now. Misconduct, previously titled Beyond Deceit, finds the pair putting pressure on Josh Duhamel‘s lawyer character as he fights a corrupt pharmaceutical system. The directorial debut of Shintaro Shimosawa, we now have the first trailer ahead of a February release.

“Working with two of this generation’s greatest actors was everything you could imagine – terrifying, humbling, mentoring but ultimately the most gratifying experience of my life,” Shimosawa tell USA Today. “Anthony always felt a scary feeling about him (even if) this man never spoke aggressively or threateningly. He knew this man was deadly,” says Shimosawa. “Anthony was chilling on camera, but between takes he couldn’t be a friendlier guy.”

Check out the trailer below for the film also starring Malin Akerman, Julia Stiles,...

Josh Duhamel, Alice Eve Go Beyond Deceit
Josh Duhamel and Alice Eve have joined Anthony Hopkins and Al Pacino in legal thriller Beyond Deceit, to be directed by scribe Shintaro Shimosawa (Fox’s The Following) in his directorial debut.

Malin Akerman, Byung-hun Lee, Glen Powell and Leah McKendrick will co-star in the pic, which centers on an ambitious young lawyer (Duhamel, replacing Dan Stevens after the latter actor dropped out over conflicts with Beauty and the Beast) who takes on a major case against the ruthless executive of a pharmaceutical giant, only to find himself framed for murder.

Eve will take on the supporting role of his wife, but it’s unclear whether Hopkins or Pacino will be playing the chief antagonist. Adam Mason and Simon Boyes (red-hot SXSW selection Hangman) penned the script, which Shimosawa then rewrote.

Beyond Deceit is just one more screen credit for Duhamel and Eve, who are each racking up tons right now.

From Codeblack Films and the producers of 'Fruitvale Station.' He’s parlayed this vocation into a successful book release that one day draws the attention of Angel Sanchez (Forest Whitaker), a profoundly troubled man fixated on the “untimely” death of his mother. When Carter takes on Sanchez as a personal client in an effort to raise funds for his indebted brother Ben (Mike Epps), things quickly take a turn for the worse. The Following, Ep. 1.10, “Guilt”: An apt title for a sell-out writer’s reign of terror?
The Following, Season 1, Episode 10: “Guilt”

Written by Kevin Williamson & Shintaro Shimosawa

Directed by Joshua Butler

Airs Mondays at 9pm (Et) on Fox

“Guilt” proves, more than any episode thus far, that The Following can only be defined in one exceedingly simple image: Kevin Williamson at his computer, choosing to use his powers for evil instead of good.

The show-runner has always been a student of Hollywood clichés and structure (the self-aware Scream movies, the movie-obsessed Dawson in Dawson’s Creek, bemoaning the lack of drama in his life), but in the past Williamson had attempted to play with the formula, to call it out in order to create something snappy, young, and meaningful to others who grew up in this media-saturated society with the same awareness. The Following, on the other hand, is just a cynical, horrifically studied exercise in using that knowledge to keep an audience simply occupied.

The Following episode 10 review: Guilt
Review Ron Hogan 26 Mar 2013 - 08:02

Serial killer series The Following continues to let its women characters down. Here's Ron's review of Guilt...

This review contains spoilers.

1.10 Guilt

The Following has a problem named Natalie Zea. Or rather, the writing staff has a problem writing for women. Despite the quality of the actress and her chemistry with Kevin Bacon, Claire makes the absolutely worst decisions possible pretty much every time she gets a chance to make a decision. This is not a problem unique to The Following, since The Walking Dead has had both Andrea and Lori screwing up left and right for the better part of three seasons (Andrea is particularly bad). If forced to categorize Claire on the Andrea Scale of Stupid, which I am inventing just for this paragraph, she's definitely hovering close to Full Andrea, just with a better actress.

So much of the plot around...

The Following, Ep. 1.06, “The Fall”: Wait, I thought I was kidding.
The Following, Season 1, Episode 6: “The Fall”

Written by Shintaro Shimosawa

Directed by Marcos Siega

Airs Mondays at 9pm (Et) on Fox

Is it horrible or amazing that the random joke made at the end of last week’s review, the one about the horny cop (with her wandering eyes) possibly being one of Joe’s followers, actually came true? It’s the nicest surprise of the night and there is something really energizing about knowing that even joke predictions can have merit in the world of The Following. At the same time, the excitement must die when, upon reflection, the whole reveal drudges up the most annoying dilemma when it comes to this show: anyone really can be a “Follower,” and, most of the time, is.

Are there seriously that many people out there willing to help an Edgar Allan Poe-obsessed serial killer that are clever enough to pull off these elaborate plans?...

In This Episode...

So Ryan is inside the farmhouse, held at gunpoint by Paul. Ryan is calm and confident, and keeps promising that his only concern is to rescue Joey - he doesn’t care if he lives or dies. This makes Jacob and Paul nervous, and Ryan feeds on that, playing on their sexual insecurities. Emma is nervous too, but she does a much better job hiding it in front of Ryan. Ryan is tied up in the living room, and Meagan is brought up from the basement to show that there are now two innocent lives in the balance. Mike calls on Ryan’s cell phone and initially talks to Ryan, but hears the others in the background. A line of communication into the house is now open, however fragile.

Emma is scared.

The Following episode 6 review: The Fall
Review Ron Hogan 26 Feb 2013 - 12:37

The Following finally begins to deliver on its so-far-squandered potential. Here's Ron's review of The Fall...

This review contains spoilers.

1.6 The Fall

The story of The Following thus far has been one of squandered potential. After a pretty good pilot that set a lot of interesting things into motion, the show hasn't really followed up on that in any really satisfactory way. However, this week, everything seemed to click into place for the programme. Indeed, this might be the best episode since the season opener. That may or may not be high praise depending on what you feel about the show, but I'm still kind of on board with it, and this week was a really good continuation of last week's instalment.

Kevin Bacon is brilliant. Nowhere is this brilliance more obvious than on this particular programme. Bacon isn't given the best stuff to...

Anthony Mackie and Forest Whitaker in Voodoo Thriller Vipaka
Hey, guys, did you hear Forest Whitaker and Anthony Mackie have teamed up alongside Sanaa Lathan to star in what is being called a voodoo-themed psychological thriller titled Vipaka, which Whitaker will be also running from a production standpoint.

Yep, and the voodoo project will be directed by French/Lebanese helmer Phillipe Caland, who previously collaborated with Whitaker on The Ripple Effect.

The plotline, penned by Shintaro Shimosawa, follows two foes that eventually go head-to-head in a match that will ‘test each man’s belief in what they’re certain is the truth.’

I have no information about production or release dates yet.

Academy Award winner for his portrayal of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, Whitaker will soon be seen in the indies Catch .44 with Bruce Willis, Freelancers with Robert De Niro, Mississippi Wild with Robert Duvall and A Single Shot with Juno Temple.

On the other hand, Mackie who earned two Isa nominations,...

Zero Point: Creator of Azureus Rising Is Trying to Kickstart New Sci-Fi Film
Last year, we brought you a very cool CG Animated proof-of-concept short film for a Sci-Fi action-adventure feature film trilogy directed by David Weinstein from Black Sun Entertainment, entitled Azureus Rising. The film went on to earn Weinstein the #4 spot on the end of year industry polls for aspiring filmmakers.

Azureus Rising

Click here to view the embedded video.

Over the past year David noticed a flood of overly polished and cheesy costumed superhero movies. This raised the question, “Why isn’t anyone doing more serious, grounded and dramatic toned superhero genre films? Movies like Unbreakable and Batman Begins did well at the box office and audiences and fans loved them”. This inspired David to contact friend and writer Shintaro Shimosawa about a new film concept.

Weinstein said,

“I told Shin about a unique superhuman power concept that I had been playing with visually in my mind. I wanted to...

Fantasia: The Echo Review
Long time Twitch readers may well remember us talking about Filipino horror film Sigaw a couple years back. Written and directed by Yam Laranas it came late enough in the run of Asian horror films – and in some ways played to the standard conventions of the genre enough - that many overlooked it but Sigaw was such a well crafted little gem of a film that introduced some subtle changes to the genre that I truly believe it is one of the last truly important films to come out of that initial Asian horror boom.

And so I have been tracking with great interest the development of the English language version of the film. Titled The Echo it again puts Laranas at the controls shooting a script adapted from his own by the writing duo of Eric Bernt and Shintaro Shimosawa. The result feels more like a riff on the...

Madonna and Guy Oseary's Maverick Films has acquired Sean Jacques' spec script Darkhorse and an untitled music-driven romantic thriller pitch from Shintaro Shimosawa. Oseary and Maverick's Daniel Rosenfeld are producing Darkhorse with Paul Kewley of Accelerator Films. Maverick production topper Mark Morgan will executive produce. Meanwhile, the untitled thriller -- described as being in the vein of The Bodyguard -- centers on an MTV pop star being stalked by a crazed fan. The Darkhorse deal was negotiated by Larry Shire and Robert Strent of Grubman, Indursky & Schindler on behalf of Maverick Films.
