Keira Knightley Fights Denial And Gaslighting In ‘The Woman In Cabin 10’ Trailer
Image
Netflix has released a trailer for its upcoming adaptation of Ruth Ware’s The Woman in Cabin 10, which arrives on the streamer Oct. 10.

Keira Knightley stars as Lo Blacklock, a travel journalist on assignment writing about a luxury yacht where something sinister happens.

“I know this is an unusual approach to charity,” Guy Pearce’s Richard tells Blacklock at the beginning of the clip. “Three days on a luxury yacht.

After hearing muffled cries in the middle of the night, she witnesses a passenger thrown overboard, but the next day, the yacht’s captain that there was never a guest staying next door and that all passengers and crew are accounted for. Author Ruth Ware describes Blacklock’s experience as “a woman who experiences something wrong, reports it truthfully, and isn’t taken seriously because of who she is.”

Suspects include the boat’s other guests — Hannah Waddingham, Art Malik,...

Image
As 2025 kicks off, several book to movie adaptations can be expected to move forward to completion, some with release dates already slated for the quarter century marker.

Mickey17, directed by Bong Joon Ho, arrived in theaters in early March. Netflix released it’s big-budget sci-fi film The Electric State, which is based on a graphic novel, March 14. The Life List arrived on the streamer at the end of March, and On Swift Horses starring Jacob Elordi, Will Poulter and Daisy Edgar-Jones hit theaters in April.

Edgar Wright’s The Running Man and Josh Boone’s Regretting You, which will likely follow in the footsteps of the Blake Lively-starring It Ends With Us and further pave a path for future Collen Hoover film adaptations like Verity and Reminders of Him.

Several other big screen adaptations of books are arriving on streamers and in theaters this year. Check out the full...

My Favorite Ted Lasso Star Is Joining Keira Knightley in a New Netflix Thriller and It’s the Team-Up I Didn’t Know I Needed
Image
Hannah Waddingham and Keira Knightley together in a psychological thriller? Sign me up! Both of them will star in Netflix’s The Woman in Cabin 10. The upcoming film is directed by Simon Stone and is based on Ruth Ware’s bestselling 2016 novel of the same name. The film is about a journalist who watches someone get thrown overboard a luxury yacht. However, she is told that nothing happened and that all the crew and passengers are accounted for.

Even though no one believes her, she puts her life in danger to uncover the truth. Having Knightley and Waddingham in it will surely infuse the suspense-filled narrative with powerful female leads who can give the characters the gravitas and range they require. Waddingham broke out as a powerhouse performer after holding her own as Rebecca Welton opposite Ted Lasso co-stars Jason Sudeikis and Brett Goldstein.

Her performance was so good...

The Woman in Cabin 10: Keira Knightley thriller unveils first look images, gets a Netflix premiere date
Image
Last year, we learned that the Netflix streaming service had gotten a new film chief in Dan Lin – and one of the first projects Lin greenlit at the streamer is an adaptation of author Ruth Ware’s bestselling 2016 thriller novel The Woman in Cabin 10, which had Keira Knightley attached to star in it as the titular woman. Now, Netflix has announced that the film is set to have its streaming premiere on October 10th – and to start building the hype, they have unveiled a batch of first look images, which can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Simon Stone, who previously directed The Dig for Netflix, directed this film from a screenplay by Snake Eyes writers Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse (with Stone handling script revisions himself). Knightley plays a travel journalist assigned to cover the launch of a luxury yacht. When she witnesses a passenger tossed...

Milly Alcock in ‘Superman’ Seemingly Confirmed: Will It Be Another Kryptonian vs Kryptonian Endgame Battle Like ‘Man of Steel’?
Image
Well, it does seem that James Gunn is carefully planning his every move and has hand-picked actors to cast in his upcoming Dcu flick, Superman. Milly Alcock, who found worldwide fame as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon, is allegedly a part of the Dcu!

Rumors and speculation hint that Alcock will be joining David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan in the upcoming James Gunn movie, and people cannot be more excited about it. However, it could also be a double-edged sword since Gunn might just indirectly recreate the 2013 Zack Snyder film Man of Steel.

Milly Alcock is allegedly confirmed for Superman

Long before even David Corenswet had been finalized for the role of Superman in the James Gunn movie, rumors had started spreading that Milly Alcock was going to be a part of the film.

Following this year’s Superman, the Milly Alcock movie is set to be the next big-screen release for the new DC era. According to a recent update, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has wrapped filming.

Just as we were waiting for the release of Superman in July this year, we got the first trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, which is also set in the Dcu. Now, the wrapping up of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow‘s filming confirms that James Gunn’s Dcu is slowly gearing up to be the next thing.

Leaked Footage From James Gunn’s Supergirl Movie: Does Milly Alcock Not Have a Red Cape?
Image
After David Corenswet’s Superman sets the scene for James Gunn’s revamped DC Universe, all eyes will be on Milly Alcock as she prepares to fly into the superhero world as Supergirl or Kara Zor-El. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will hit theaters almost a year after the upcoming Superman, and while there isn’t much known about the movie, fans are keeping their hopes up high, especially since she is a more jaded character than her Kryptonian cousin.

It has been months since filming began for the movie, and it looks like we just got the first look at Milly Alcock’s version of the superhero. As footage from the set of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow makes rounds on the Internet, we can’t help but wonder where the iconic red cape is.

Image
James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, has shared a behind-the-scenes photo of Milly Alcock preparing for her Dcu role as Kara Zor-El, most famously known as Supergirl, on the set of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. He posted the new-look teaser on Instagram (as seen below) in a post celebrating the legendary comic book character, who made her debut appearance 66 years ago in Action Comics #252, and "all her various incarnations," including the upcoming version played by Alcock, who, according to him, has an "indomitable" spirit.

"Today we celebrate Supergirl and all her various incarnations. Can't wait for you to see the latest version, portrayed by the indomitable Milly Alcock, in June 2026," he wrote in the caption of his Instagram post. James Gunn Teases Supergirl With New BTS Photo of Milly Alcock's Kara

The DC Universe is getting ready to premiere the first film since the franchise reboot, with Superman set for release in the summer. However, James Gunn recently took the time to treat fans to a brand-new look at Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow star Milly Alcock.

The movie will premiere on June 26, 2026. So far, fans have only got a short look at Alcock's Kara Zor-El from behind when the film officially started production in late January 2025. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will mark the second film in the Dcu after Superman. On March 31, which also happened to be Supergirl's 66th anniversary, James Gunn treated fans to a new look at Alcock's Kara on Instagram to mark a special occasion.

Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow - James Gunn Shares New BTS Look At Milly Alcock's Girl Of Steel
Image
Work is underway on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and while we're still waiting on a first look at Milly Alcock suited up as the Maiden of Might, James Gunn has just shared a new behind-the-scenes image of the actor on social media.

In that, we see the House of the Dragon star reading the comic book series from which this movie takes its name and story. Alcock's costume remains under wraps, but we'd bet on this being the hairstyle her version of Supergirl will rock in the Dcu.

Warner Bros. is going to be at CinemaCon later this week, and DC Studios is expected to have a presence at the event. However, all eyes are likely to be on Superman, meaning you should temper expectations when it comes to a Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow first look (it's unlikely but not impossible).

When Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow was first announced, Gunn said,...

James Gunn Celebrates 'Supergirl' With New Image of Milly Alcock

There will soon be a second Kryptonian hero blasting through the sky, as Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios prepare to release Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrowin 2026. While details about the film itself still remain mostly hidden, DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn has revealed a new look at the project's star, Milly Alcock, who is apparently deep in her on-set research to portray the Girl of Steel.

The image, shared by Gunn on X, shows off Alcock in what appears to be her trailer, digging into a copy of a Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic book issue. Gunn accompanied the photo with praise for Alcock. "Today we celebrate #Supergirl and all her various incarnations," Gunn said in the caption. "Can't wait for you to see the latest version, portrayed by the indomitable @millyalcock, in June 2026."

‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’: Nostalgia Over Substance
Michael Keaton

Entertainment Inc. All Rights Reserved. After what seems like ages, the iconic ghost is back. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice aimed to revisit Tim Burton’s uniquely bizarre universe from 1988, but did it hit the mark? Sort of, but it falls short in some areas. Michael Keaton returning as Beetlejuice is a real delight, still brimming with the wild energy that made him unforgettable. Burton’s visual flair remains intact, with the Neitherworld appearing more chaotic and vibrant than ever. Yet, something feels off. The storyline feels cluttered, trying to fit in too many elements at once. Lydia deals with her moody teenage daughter, Beetlejuice has family issues, and there’s little room left for traditional haunting antics. It feels like a mishmash of ideas thrown together. The humor doesn’t quite land,...

Movie Review: Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
Image
Following his return as Batman in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash (2023), Michael Keaton again revisits another iconic character in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice – a prospect apparently strong enough to lure director Tim Burton out of retirement to helm the project. Unfortunately, the result is slightly better than a rehash of the first film, but has nowhere near the original’s charm or appeal.

The film begins by re-introducing the audience to Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) who has been using her ability to commune with the dead as a means to earn an income. However, when a family tragedy occurs, the family must reconvene at the long abandoned home in Winter River to sort through the remnants of their lives. There, Lydia’s estranged daughter, Astrid (Jenna Ortega), learns the truth of her mother’s story and the demon named Beetlejuice.

After last working together on Batman Returns (1992), director Tim Burton (who ostensibly...

Photo Credit: Parisa Taghizadeh Copyright: © 2024 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. All Rights Reserved. There’s been talk, rumor, and speculation about a Beetlejuice sequel ever since the original movie was a huge hit in 1988. But, over time, one thing became clear: If there was going to be another Beetlejuice movie, it was going to happen on director Tim Burton’s schedule. As he became preoccupied with other projects — most notably the early Batman movies — Beetlejuice fell further off his radar. It may have taken three and a half decades, but finally, everything fell into place, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is about to hit theaters, with Burton directing, Michael Keaton once again starring as the title character, and Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara returning in their original roles. As Keaton said, though,...

Wicked Little Letters – Review
Image

Wicked Little Letters is one of those truth-stranger-than-fiction tales that remind us that people are weirder than we might think. Director Thea Sharrock opens her comedy/mystery tale with text informing us “more of this is true than you might think,” a comic mystery about on the sudden appearance of anonymous obscene letters sent to various residents of a quiet of early 1920s little British seaside town. The first victim is Edith Swan (Olivia Colman), prim and proper religious spinster who still lives with her parents, and who embodies the last-gasp of the Victorian era ideal of a quiet obedient woman against those uppity women demanding the vote. Suspicion quickly falls on Edith’s neighbor, a foul-mouthed new arrival from Ireland, Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley), who has a daughter Nancy (Alisha Weir), and...

Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal in ‘All of Us Strangers’

All of Us Strangers, The Color Purple, Fellow Travelers, The Last of Us, and Our Flag Means Death (which was just canceled by Max) received nominations for the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. The annual awards recognize fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues in the media, and this year’s list includes 310 nominees.

“For 35 years, the GLAAD Media Awards has provided the global stage for LGBTQ creators, alongside industry talent and leaders to be celebrated and supported. At a time when the LGBTQ community is under attack by false narratives and misinformation, when less than half of American say they are familiar with transgender and nonbinary people, and when one in five Gen Z adults identify as LGBTQ, this year’s nominees powerfully reflect the realities of LGBTQ existence today, in our communities and around the globe,...

‘All of Us Strangers’ Star Andrew Scott Doesn’t Care What Anyone Else Thinks
Image
Back in 2013, Dublin-born actor Andrew Scott decided it was time to come out. He was about to do publicity for the movie “Pride.” “It got to a stage where I felt like it was an omission,” he told me recently at Los Angeles’ London Hotel. “Not speaking about it was bothering me a little. I just made the movie ‘Pride.’ And I didn’t really want to talk about that film without saying who I am. I had no shame about it anymore. So it was a brilliant thing to do. I would say to any young actor, that it was wonderful for me personally, but it was very good for my work, too. It didn’t affect my work negatively in any shape, or form. In fact, the opposite.”

He has been saying “no” throughout his career. “For me, it’s about a signature,” he said. “If the writing...

36 Must-See Films at the 2023 Venice, Toronto, and New York Film Festivals
Image
Another year, another “strange time” for festivals. And yet, despite a pair of on-going strikes and an entertainment world that seems hellbent on remaining in flux, as the air turns chillier, it’s still time for the laurels to come out, and there are plenty of new films to get excited about seeing soon.

This year’s fall festival season includes new films from Hayao Miyazaki, Michael Mann, David Fincher, Ellen Kurras, Yorgos Lanthimos, Errol Morris, Pablo Larraín, Kitty Green, Andrew Haigh, Harmony Korine, and Anna Kendrick, and that’s only the start. There are films about everything from vampiric dictators to (actual) dicks, dumb money to stupid dreams, true stories of courage to fake stories of Nicolas Cage invading people’s minds, at least one very big suit, and so very much more.

And while a handful of films have opted to skip out on the festivals, like the...

‘Polite Society’ Movie Review (2023 Sundance Film Festival)
Image
Priya Kansara stars in ‘Polite Society’ (Photo Courtesy of Sundance Institute / Photo by Parisa Taghizadeh)

Ria Khan is “the fury,” or so she repeatedly claims, in Polite Society, an absolutely bonkers action-packed comedy from writer/director Nida Manzoor (We Are Lady Parts). Ria’s a schoolgirl with big dreams and no filter in Manzoor’s wild and crazy feature film directorial debut.

Don’t mess with the Khan sisters or Ria (Priya Kansara) will unleash hell. Or at least she’ll try her damnedest. She’s got her mind set on becoming a stuntwoman, even though her kicks miss more often than they connect. Never mind that her incredibly patient Pakistani parents aren’t supportive of her chosen profession or that her teacher tries to squash her dreams by suggesting she’s more suited to become a doctor. The horror! Nothing will keep Ria from her chosen profession.

Fortunately, her...

The 11 Best LGBTQ Movies of 2022
Image
As 2022 wraps up, the end of the year presents an opportunity to look back on how LGBTQ representation fared on the big screen. According to GLAAD’s 10th Annual Studio Responsibility Index, the percentage of LGBTQ-inclusive films (as well as racial diversity and screen time for queer characters) dipped in 2021.

While this year’s official report has yet to be released, it appears to have recovered some ground. From theaters to streamers, it’s been an impressive year for LGBTQ flicks, from joyful summer rom-coms “Bros” and “Fire Island” to sobering dramas like “My Policeman” and “The Inspection.” That includes some of the most talked-about titles of awards season – “The Whale,” “Tár”, and “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” to name a few.

If you’re looking for your next themed binge of the holiday break, read on for the 11 best LGBTQ movies of 2022.

Review: ‘Empire of Light’ Starring Olivia Colman
Image

Nostalgia, racism, mental health, and the love of cinema are just some of the topics touched upon in Oscar-winning filmmaker Sam Mendes’ 2022 drama Empire of Light.

Empire of Light takes place in an old cinema house on the south coast of England in the early 1980s. The film focuses on the relationship between Hilary Small (Olivia Colman), the middle-aged mid-manager of the theater, and the new, young Black ticket taker Stephen (Micheal Ward). It’s made clear early on that Hilary is suffering from depression and takes medication to combat the illness – a medication she tells her psychiatrist makes her feel a bit numb. The doctor assures her she’ll get used to the drug and to give it time.

Hilary’s work life contributes to her depression. She’s...

Independent Entertainment, Producers Behind Harry Styles Film ‘My Policeman,’ on Company Ambitions, Future of Cinema
Image
Independent Entertainment, the finance, sales and production company behind films including “We Need to Talk About Kevin” and the upcoming “My Policeman,” which is set to have its world premiere at TIFF, celebrates its fifteenth anniversary this year.

Since its founding by CEO Luc Roeg in 2007, the film landscape has undergone unimaginable change, from the ascendance of streaming platforms to the global pandemic followed by a cost of living crisis that has brought cinemas to their knees.

Despite the challenges, Independent Entertainment has gone from strength to strength, adapting to market changes while remaining true to what Roeg describes as its “creative core.”

“Every decision is made around the creative basis and how the team or individuals are responding to it,” Roeg tells Variety of the company’s strategy. “I think we are very much a production-led business in the sense that whenever we get involved, even in third party projects,...
