MotoGP 2022: Bagnaia makes it three wins in a row, minimises gap with leader Quartararo
Image
Vienna, Aug 21 (Ians) Francesco Bagnaia made it three wins in a row for the first time in his MotoGP career by storming to victory at the Austrian Grand Prix to further boost his title hopes here on Sunday.

The Ducati rider came off the five-week break, 66 points behind championship leader Fabio Quartararo, but that gap now stands at 44 points with seven races to go.

It could have been closed even further but Quartararo finished strongly to clinch second, while closest challenger Aleix Espargaro — 16th on Sunday — is 32 points adrift.

On Lap 14, Quartararo set his personal best lap of the race, but he made a mistake at the chicane with 12 laps to go and was forced to give the position up to Quartararo. He raised his hand coming out of Turn 4 to signal he might have but he was back at full speed soon enough.

With four laps to go, a...

Broadway Gets a Grand Theater Back
Stephen Sondheim at an event for Sweeney Todd: Der teuflische Barbier aus der Fleet Street (2007)
There are several ways to define a Broadway theater, all tautological. It’s a theater that uses a Broadway contract. It’s a theater in the Broadway district — Sixth Avenue to Eighth Avenue, 41st Street to 54th Street — except when it isn’t. (The Hirschfeld is west of Eighth, and, oops, the Vivian Beaumont is up at Lincoln Center.) While a theater must have 500 seats or more to qualify, many in the district that do, including City Center, Town Hall, and the PlayStation Theater, right at Times Square, aren’t included. Broadway is what we say it is. In any case, it’s about to get bigger, as the first new theater since the Stephen Sondheim (which opened as Henry Miller’s Theatre in 2009) gets set to bring the total from 40 to 41. Actually, No. 41 is not new; it’s the historic Hudson, which opened in 1903 on West 44th Street and...

Matthew A. Brown
Interview: Julia director Matthew A. Brown!
Matthew A. Brown
Hey there, creeps! Today I’m joined in the Crypt o’ Xiii by the die-rector of the new revenge flick Julia, Matthew A. Brown! Let’s get ta jawin’!

Famous Monsters. Julia contains some hardcore themes, in particular brutal rape. How difficult was it to tackle that sort of thing?

Matthew A. Brown. I’ve always been attracted to stories of radical transformation, themes of weakness vs. power or weakness vs. courage, journeys from intense darkness to full blown light, in which characters are pushed to transcend their small egocentric selves to full realization of their own innate and inherent even primal power—of course, what that means is dependent on the context of the story itself. In this case it was about a woman who’s spent her whole life suffering under the abuse of others, and finally something so extreme happens that it tips the scales from her...

Opening This Week
By Neil Pedley

With such variety this week, we could be tempted to go nuts and combine them into one super movie. nm1136915 autoOsama Bin Laden[/link] would have 88 minutes to paint an anamorphic picture that disproved Darwinism while riding the winner of the Kentucky Derby through ancient China with his gay lover who is also an Oscar nominated composer moonlighting as a zombie stripper...we smell a Golden Globe!

"Anamorph"

Utilizing the painting technique of anamorphosis, whereby the nature of an image changes depending on the viewer's vantage point, filmmaker nm0587829 autoHenry Miller[/link] marks his directorial debut with this intricate and cerebral thriller that reads like "Saw" by way of "The Da Vinci Code." nm0000353 autoWillem Dafoe[/link] stars as the dogged but haunted Detective Aubray, on the trail of carefully placed clues and elaborate puzzles, trying to catch a serial killer whose crimes bare a striking resemblance to an old...
