The 22nd Screamfest Horror Film Festival’s just released its first wave of feature films screening this year. The 2022 festival will take place October 11-20 and will be held at the Tcl Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

“We are excited to return to the Tcl Chinese Theaters since the theatrical experience is unlike anything else,” stated festival founder Rachel Belofsky. “We look forward to seeing the LA horror community in person this year and can’t wait to see these premieres on the big screen where they belong.”

The festival’s set Prime Video and Blumhouse’s Run Sweetheart Run with Shohreh Aghdashloo and Pilou Asbæk as its closing night film. Screamfest will also host the West Coast premiere of Living with Chucky, a documentary about the creepy serial killer doll written and directed by Kyra Gardner. Slayers starring Thomas Jane, Abigail Breslin, and Malin Akerman will have its world premiere...

"There's only one of two ways you're leaving - prison or death." Netflix has revealed the official trailer for South Africa thriller titled Silverton Siege, the latest film by cinematographer / filmmaker Mandlakayise Walter Dube. The film is based on a true story of a real life incident that sparked the global 'Free Mandela' movement. Silverton Siege is an action thriller inspired by true life events that took place in South Africa in 1980. A trio of freedom fighters end up heading into a collision course with the state after a failed sabotage mission, which turns into a bank hostage stand off. The film stars Thabo Rametsi as Calvin Khumalo, with Arnold Vosloo, Noxolo Dlamini, Stefan Erasmus, Michelle Mosalakae, Elani Dekker, Shane Wellington, and Tumisho Masha. There have been a number of strong films coming out of South Africa recently, and this looks like it digs into an important moment in the country's apartheid history.

“Silverton Siege,” an action thriller inspired by the real life incident that sparked the global Free Mandela movement, is being added to Netflix.

The film is directed by noted South African filmmaker Mandla Dube (“Kalushi: The Story of Solomon Mahlangu”) and stars Thabo Rametsi, Noxolo Dlamini and Stefan Erasmus.

Set in 1980, Rametsi, Dlamini and Erasmus portray the Silverton Siege trio – three young freedom fighters with nothing left to lose. Following a high speed car chase with the police after a thwarted sabotage mission, the trio end up seeking refuge in a South African bank in Silverton, Pretoria. Taking the bank and its customers hostage and demanding the release of Nelson Mandela in exchange for release of the prisoners, the stakes and tensions run high.

Dube said: “’Silverton Siege’ is my strongest work thus far, the hope is that filmmakers from Africa are given more opportunities at decolonizing the narrative of who we are.

South African film company DV8 Films will trace Nelson Mandela’s years as a guerrilla freedom fighter, in a new docu-drama titled Mandela's Gun. Director John Irvin, who dramatised John le Carré's Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, will shed light on mystery of pistol in Mandela's Gun

His dramatisation of John le Carré's espionage thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy starring Alec Guinness remains a British television classic. More than three decades later, director John Irvin is attempting to chronicle another shadowy life story: Nelson Mandela's years as a guerrilla freedom fighter.

Irvin announced on Friday a drama-documentary that will contain fresh revelations about Mandela's "odyssey" across Africa, his military training and his readiness to kill defenders of South Africa's apartheid regime.

It will also aim to shed light on the mystery of a pistol, said to have been a gift to Mandela from Ethiopian emperor Haile Selassie, which has been missing for half a century.
