Kevin Spacey in House of Cards (2013)
7 New Netflix Shows to Binge in May 2017, and The Best Episodes of Each
Kevin Spacey in House of Cards (2013)
1. “Master of None” (available May 12)

Why Should I Watch It? Aziz Ansari’s debut original series arrived in its first season as a progressive-minded, discussion-oriented, diverse, smart, cinematic, and very, very funny comedy. It’s honestly hard to imagine what more you could ask for a new television show these days, if only considering how many shows are begging for your attention. “Master of None” earns it, and quickly. Season 2 looks to be more of the same — meaning different, which is what we need.

Best Episode: Netflix has a tight lid on Season 2 episodes, but the embargo on reviews lifts Wednesday, May 3, so expect to hear a lot more in a few days.

Best Episode of Season 1: Episode 2, “Parents”

Donald Trump
Marco Rubio, Nancy Pelosi and More Politicians Slam Trump’s Praise of Putin
Donald Trump
President Donald Trump‘s recent remarks defending Russian President Vladimir Putin are not sitting well with politicians.

Many spoke out against the 70-year-old business mogul’s praise of Putin in a preview of his pre-Super Bowl interview with Bill O’Reilly.

The president said of the foreign leader, “He’s a leader of his country. I say it’s better to get along with Russia than not, and if Russia helps us in the fight against Isis – which is a major fight, and Islamic terrorism all over the world – that’s a good thing. Will I get along with him?...

Donald Trump
Meryl Streep, Jon Stewart, Jerry Seinfeld and More Celebrities Donald Trump Has Called ‘Overrated’
Donald Trump
It’s not easy to get Donald Trump‘s stamp of approval.

Trump fired back at Meryl Streep on Monday after he became the unnamed subject of her passionate Golden Globes speech about empathy. In response, Trump called her “one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood.”

But Streep — who just notched her 30th Golden Globe nomination this year, making her the most celebrated actress in its history — is not the first person to be dubbed “overrated” by the president-elect. The actress joins the likes of Barack Obama, Jon Stewart and the entire cast of Hamilton.

Here is a complete...

Obama, Celebrities Gather For Annual Event
Marfa d'Hervilly and Raoul Marco in Bric à Brac et compagnie (1932)
By Jeff Mason

Washington, April 28 (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama poked fun at the media, his critics and himself on Saturday at the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner, a star-filled event where journalists and celebrities mixed with the Washington elite.

Joined at the dinner by his wife, first lady Michelle Obama, the president gently knocked Republicans for not working with him on policy priorities and made a rare reference to his race when urging the opposition party to be cooperative.

"I know Republicans are still sorting out what happened in 2012, but one thing they all agree on is they need to do a better job reaching out to minorities," Obama said.

"And look, call me self-centered, but I can think of one minority they could start with. Hello? Think of me as a trial run, you know?" he said.

Conan O'Brien in Conan (2010)
White House Correspondents' Dinner: President Obama on NBC, 'The Bible,' and Taylor Swift. Plus: Conan O'Brien's best jokes
Conan O'Brien in Conan (2010)
C-Span insistently stamped the hashtag “NerdProm” on their coverage of this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, but the annual political roast looked more like Washington’s answer to the Golden Globes. By which I mean, there were several pointed jokes and untold gallons of booze. Conan O’Brien was the official comedy diplomat of the night — a return trip for the late-night host, who slung jokes in President Clinton’s direction back in 1995. But O’Brien was overshadowed by his opener: President Barack Obama, who took the opportunity to make several jabs at NBC, CNN, and even Taylor Swift.

Guillermo del Toro Developing ‘Beauty and the Beast’ For Emma Watson, While ‘Potter’ Producer Finds New Project
The Harry Potter series came to an end this past Friday, and it (appropriately) went out with the biggest opening weekend of all time. After working on eight movies for about ten years, the cast and crew now have to find other projects to occupy their time with, and we’ve learned of two major players in the series getting involved with new films.

First, Styd has learned that Guillermo del Toro is developing a new version of Beauty and the Beast, with Emma Watson in mind to star. Crazy, Stupid, Love producer Denise Di Novi confirmed the filmmaker’s involvement, and said that she would be co-producing the movie with him. He probably won’t be directing, however, as he’s set to begin filming on Pacific Rim this September, with At the Mountains of Madness planned for some point after Rim‘s release.

Watson is a great choice,...

Gays of our Lives (March 1, 2009)
In The Spotlight – Degrassi: The Next Generation, Clara Sheller, and River City

This week we look at three very different series that hail from three different countries. But all have one thing in common: each tell interesting and intriguing stories about the lives and loves of gay men.

First up, Degrassi: The Next Generation and ‘The Life of Riley’.

Riley Stavros, played by Argiris Karras, is the long running Canadian teen drama’s latest entry in its much-lauded history of depicting the lives of gay characters. But two recent episodes clearly showed Riley is very different from Degrassi’s last gay character, Marco (out actor Adamo Ruggiero). Where Marco was openly gay and never struggled with his sexual identity, it’s been nothing but a constant battle for Riley. In fact, he hates being gay and desperately wishes things were different. But as we see in this first clip, he...
