The film stars Ken Mitsuishi as a 50-year-old single father named Miyata Junichi. Back in junior high, Junichi was bullied and made a promise to himself that he would grow up to be really cool. Junichi has been raising his two children, an unemployed 19-year-old named Toshiya (Morioka Ryu) and an 18-year-old high school senior named Momoko (Yoshinaga Jun) on his own since his wife died of cancer 15 years earlier. He works extremely hard as a truck driver to buy whatever he thinks his kids want; and even though money is tight, he never lets it show. One day, Junichi feels ill and becomes obsessed with the idea that he may be dying of cancer like his wife. Convinced his life will soon be ending, he begins putting his affairs in order and borrows tuition money from his best friend and only confidant, Sanada (Taguchi Tomorowo). However, in his never-ending attempt to be a cool adult, he refuses to burden his children with any of his problems.

The setting is a local port town. Shun Kosaka has a dream of becoming a novelist and lives in a byte at convenience stores at night. He happened to meet Natsuki, and his life began to change. However, they get involved in an incident related to the local mafia.

There has been a surge in the number of people killing themselves; a mysterious DVD is found on the bodies of the victims. Nozomi falls under the spell of a deadly cult. Yousuke, the policeman she is dating, soon realizes that the cult has something to do with the DVD. Then one day all trace of the group disappear along with Nozomi

Maiko (Ishikawa) is a 17 year old aspiring picture book writer who was abandoned by her widowed father at the age of 3 and has lived in a foster home ever since. She meets Lisa (Fujimoto), also 17, and the two quickly form a bond of understanding as they help each other work out their problems. Lisa holds a grudge against her mother for paying more attention to the men she brings home than her own daughter and Maiko begins to doubt her artistic dream will ever come to fruition after a book editor judges her writing ability harshly.

A seventeen-year-old boy in Urayasu Chiba Prefecture dreams of becoming a film director. He carries an 8mm camera and shoots around town for fun. He and two friends get together in a park and pass time. Aware of a woman's stalker they decide to become involved. This becomes their source of excitement. Their friendship, however, ends up being on the line.
