‘The Last of Us’ Recasts Danny Ramirez for Season 3
Danny Ramirez
Danny Ramirez will not be returning for “The Last of Us” Season 3.

After co-starring in Season 2 opposite Katilyn Dever as a Firefly in Season 2, the actor has had to drop out of the project due to scheduling conflicts, TheWrap has learned.

He appeared in four episodes as Manny Alvarez. As TheWrap previously reported, Ramirez (“Top Gun: Maverick”) was cast for Season 2 in November 2024. His character Manny is a loyal soldier whose sunny outlook belies the pain of old wounds and a fear that he will fail his friends when they need him most. He is instrumental in Abby’s (Dever) journey of revenge against Joel (Pedro Pascal) after Joel’s...

Jim Carrey Played Santa Claus Opposite Ryan Gosling In This Cult Classic Show
Image
Jim Carrey has embodied pop culture's most prominent Christmas cranks, The Grinch and Ebenezer Scrooge, in big-budget movies. But when he's played festive figures who are all about good vibes — or generally positive intentions, at least -- it's often been on television.

In Funny or Die's "Drunk History Christmas," the rubber-faced Canadian portrayed Santa Claus opposite Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes. This episode of "Drunk History" — one of the best shows currently streaming on Paramount+ — saw the cast act out a five-minute rendition of "A Visit from St. Nicholas." It didn't go smoothly, though, as narrator Allan McLeod drank half...

Malcolm in the Middle Reboot: Watch These Bryan Cranston Series and Movies on Netflix
Image
Bryan Cranston earned his spot on the Mount Rushmore of TV dads starting in 2000, when he first starred as Hal in Malcolm in the Middle. Hal — father to Francis (Christopher Kennedy Masterson), Reese (Justin Berfield), Malcolm (Frankie Muniz), and Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan) — was an affable if wildly immature middle-class family man who loved his wife, Lois (Jane Kaczmarek), but struggled to keep his eccentric sons on track. The majority of the cast, including Cranston, will return in a series revival, Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, in April 2026.

The original series put Cranston on the map, but it was far from his first time onscreen. He began acting...

Why ‘Heated Rivalry’ Can’t Compete at the Emmys — and Likely Won’t Be Able to for Season 2, Either
Image
As “Heated Rivalry” continues to… heat up and become a massive hit for HBO Max, conversations have begun regarding the upcoming Emmy season. While romance series have broken through at the award show recently — see “Nobody Wants This,” which broke through with three nods for its first season — this adaptation will not get the same treatement.

“Heated Rivalry” is fully funded by Canadian company Bell Media, Crave’s parent company. The 2024-25 Emmy rules state that a “foreign television production is ineligible unless it is the result of a co-production (both financially and creatively) betwen U.S. and foreign partners,...

He played Manny, who was described as “a loyal soldier whose sunny outlook belies the pain of old wounds and a fear that he will fail his friends when they need him most” when his casting was announced in 2024. ‘Stranger Things 5’ Gets Review Bombed as Will’s Coming Out Becomes Worst-Rated Episode on IMDb
Image
“Stranger Things” has been review bombed after the Dec. 25 release of Season 5 Vol. 2.

The recent episodes have dragged the season’s fan-driven Rotten Tomatoes score from the 70s down to 56%, a stark decline from the show’s previous seasons.

A backlash campaign seemed to ignite after the Netflix series’ penultimate episode, “The Bridge,” which features a scene in which Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) comes out as gay to his friends. The lengthy monologue came as the Hawkins gang geared up to face Vecna, the big bad from the Upside Down. “The Bridge” is now the lowest-rated episode of “Stranger Things” on IMDb,...

Only One Friends Cast Member Directed An Episode Of The Sitcom
Image
Only one member of the main cast of "Friends" directed episodes of the NBC comedy during its original run: David Schwimmer, who helmed 10 installments over the show's last five seasons.

Schwimmer began directing on "Friends" in 1999 with the Season 6 episode "The One on the Last Night," becoming the only principal cast member to step behind the camera while the sitcom was still on the air. He would go on to direct nine additional episodes — "The One With Rachel's Assistant" (Season 7, Episode 4), "The One With Ross's Library Book" (Season 7, Episode 7), "The One With All the Candy" (Season 7, Episode 9), "The One With...

15 Best TV Shows Like The Mentalist
Image
"The Mentalist" walks on well-trodden ground. A crime procedural with an odd couple at its center, the broad outline of the characters and their stories will feel familiar to fans of the genre. Simon Baker plays Patrick Jane, the quirky police consultant with hidden depth and a dark past. Robin Tunney plays Teresa Lisbon, his no-nonsense boss, always frustrated by Jane's antics. They're joined by a group of earnest, slightly odd junior agents.

The basic plot of "The Mentalist" describes the plot of many crime procedurals, but what makes it stand out is the compelling dynamic between the characters and Jane's particular brand of eccentricity.

Young Sheldon Easter Eggs: Every Big Bang Theory Cameo, Callback, And Future Reveal
Image
TVLine is taking stock of the many nods, cameos and crossovers linking "Young Sheldon" to its predecessor, "The Big Bang Theory."

First launched in September 2017, the long-running prequel filled in the details of Dr. Sheldon Cooper's upbringing in Medford, Texas. The story begins in 1989 and is told from the point of view of a more mature Sheldon, "who is older now and seeing his parents in a different light for the first time," according to series co-creator Steve Molaro. That altered perspective allowed the spinoff to chart its own path, occasionally diverging from "Big Bang" canon without ever disrespecting what came before.

Top-Rated Television Networks: Ranking 2025’s Winners and Losers
Image
What a difference a Super Bowl makes. Last year, Fox was down double digits in Variety‘s year-end ranker of the year’s most-watched networks in primetime. But in 2025, Fox had the Big Game: And a a result, the network was up double digits in both total viewers and adults 18-49 (where it was No. 1).

But don’t count out the strength of regular programming, as CBS — even sans Super Bowl, which it broadcast in 2024 — managed to stay No. 1 in total viewers thanks to series like “Tracker” and “60 Minutes.” ABC, meanwhile, was up 5%, after being virtually flat in...

Harrison Ford Had One Question Before He Joined Apple TV's Shrinking

The pilot script for Apple TV's bittersweet dramedy "Shrinking" left Harrison Ford with one important question: "Am I in the next one a lot?"

This is according to series co-creator Bill Lawrence, as told to Variety in 2023. It happens to be the case that Dr. Paul Rhoades — curmudgeonly surrogate father figure to Jason Segel's wayward therapist, Jimmy Laird -- doesn't have much screen time in the first episode.

"You're in whatever you want to be in, man," responded Lawrence, also known for "Scrubs" and "Ted Lasso." "You could be in every scene if you want. You tell me."

A Simple Plan to Save ‘Stranger Things’ from Hollywood’s Tired Franchise Trap
Image
A funny thing happened when Netflix put the “Stranger Things” finale in theaters: Fans bought tickets. A lot of tickets.

The AMC Kips Bay in New York City listed 11 screenings as “almost full” on New Year’s Eve alone. The 34th Street theater filled up nine screenings, and Lincoln Square had five showings nearing capacity. The same demand was seen on the opposite coast in Los Angeles, where The Grove packed the house for seven screenings, the Century City AMC had eight, and Universal CityWalk turned out 11. Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, and more cities where the finale is playing saw similar demand, and all of these sales took place days before showtime. By New Year’s Eve, Netflix’s latest “event” screenings should be even busier.

Now, this may not be surprising to some of you — “Stranger Things” is one of the most-watched properties on Netflix and has been for nearly...

A Classic Friends Episode Had To Be Changed Because Of A Tragedy

An episode of "Friends" was significantly altered ahead of its October 2001 airing in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks, with producers scrapping an entire storyline involving airport bomb jokes.

Deleted scenes show that the original storyline would have kept Monica and Chandler at the airport while Chandler was detained and interrogated. In the episode as aired, that storyline was retooled and saw the newlyweds repeatedly...

The 15 Greatest British TV Shows Of All Time, Ranked
Image
For most Americans, the first experience with a British TV show is often on PBS. For others, it may come after talking to that insufferable drama student in high school who impersonates his favorite BBC shows in a terrible English accent. Whatever the case, the great British television shows are often a cut above U.S. network TV.

It's the result of government funding (meaning no sponsors to assuage), the literary pedigree and stage training of the available talent, edgier commercial channels that want to offer a competing product, and lower budgets that require more creativity without too many special effects or location shoots.

Audiences can also expect a big spotlight on Will’s beloved chihuahua, Betty, as well as resolutions of finale cliffhangers, like Georgia Bureau of Investigation boss Amanda’s (Sonja Sohn) condition after a shooting left her critical: “She’s going to survive this, but it’s going to...

The makeup and hair team behind “One Battle After Another” was nominated in contemporary makeup and special makeup prosthetics. Arjen Tuiten, who was nominated in the latter category, used prosthetic pieces, contact lenses and dentures for Sean Penn’s Colonel Lockjaw in the film’s third act after he survives a horrific car crash.

For “Frankenstein,” Mike Hill, the film’s prosthetics artist, steered clear of the classic zombie,...

15 Best Miniseries Of The 2020s (So Far)
Image
Miniseries are definitely having a moment in the zeitgeist right now. They offer a middle ground between a long-form TV series that can span multiple seasons and a single film. In fact, one could argue that a major issue with modern miniseries is that they tend to play like 10-hour-long movies as opposed to an episodic series. Still, some manage to get it right, and there are many outstanding miniseries throughout the 2020s.

To be clear, a miniseries offers a complete story arc in a predetermined number of episodes. They don't go on for years, which can sometimes be a good thing for attracting talent.

A Law & Order Stunt Caused Mariska Hargitay A Significant Injury
Image
"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" star Mariska Hargitay is no stranger to injuries. The performer notably hurt her ankle ahead of the procedural's 23rd season in 2021, with the medical setback resulting from an unfortunate accident in Hargitay's personal life. That said, the actor — who plays Olivia Benson on "Law & Order: Svu" and other series in the extended franchise — also hurt herself on the set of NBC's long-running crime drama before, as she ended up with a collapsed lung following a botched stunt in the fall of 2008.

"I was doing a stunt chasing a bad guy. I'd always...

Why Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Shameless Storyline Lasted Just One Episode
Image
Even in the intensely volatile world of Showtime's long-running dark comedy "Shameless," a twist that happened between Seasons 4 and 5 confused many fans.

Viewers will recall that the series followed the Gallagher family, which did its best to grow up and survive despite the unpredictable behavior of their alcoholic father, Frank (William H. Macy) and absentee mother. The confusing, between-seasons twist went like this:

In the Season 4 finale, eldest Gallagher sibling Fiona (Emmy Rossum) is hired by a diner owner named Charlie (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), who is willing to overlook her recent felony drug possession and child endangerment charges. When Season 5 starts,...

15 Best Gothic Horror TV Shows, Ranked
Image
More than just typical scary shows, there is something hauntingly atmospheric about gothic horror television series. Drawing primarily from European folklore, these stories involve the supernatural malevolence normally associated with ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and other paranormal creatures from the region. Slashers and zombies need not apply here, nor monsters originating from other parts of the world, these are more old world terrors. There is also a quiet romanticism about gothic horror stories, often involving forbidden temptation and dangerous liaisons.

From period pieces capturing the historical depictions of these scary stories to dramatic modern retellings, there are plenty of popular gothic horror shows to check out.

Well, this week’s episode of “Landman” is officially the wackiest and horniest yet! Sure, it ends with a romantic proposal, but was any fan mentally prepared for that first scene? Let’s just say the room service waitress wasn’t the only person who almost ran away screaming! Brace yourself as we walk through this week’s episode.

Landman Proves Breakfast With Tommy And Angela Can Be Even Rowdier Than Dinner — Read Episode 7 Recap
Image
You know how, when an ornery cat finally sidles up to you and rubs itself against your legs, you pretend not to notice, because acknowledging the change in any fashion just makes the cat hiss and run away? That's how I feel about Tommy in this week's "Landman."

The guy is actively choosing kindness and peace where he's always gone for hard-headedness and chaos, and that growth is beautiful. (Did we have to sit through the erection-tastic cold open to get here? We did. Into every life a little penis humor must fall, I supposed.)

Cooper and Rebecca also have significant moments in the episode,...

‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Stars Break Down That Brutal Season 4 Finale (Video)
Image
[Warning: The following post contains Major spoilers for Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 Episode 10, “Belly of the Beast.”] Welp. Sometimes, revenge is a dish best served cold, and other times, it’s served in the very heated way Kyle McLusky (Taylor Handley) just served it in Mayor of Kingstown‘s Season 4 finale. The episode found Kyle and Mike (Jeremy Renner) on the hunt for Merle Callahan (Richard Brake) to get justice for what he did to poor Tracy (Nishi Munshi). Though Merle tried to turn himself in to the police station, knowing prison would be the safest place for him in the entire world, Ian (Hugh Dillon) was having none of that. With the reluctant blessing of his boss,...

‘Landman’ Gets Surprisingly Mushy — Which Moment Was the Most Romantic? (Poll)
Image
[Warning: The following post contains spoilers for Landman Season 2 Episode 7, “Forever Is an Instant.”] Landman isn’t a sappy show. Far from. In fact, it’s probably best known for all of the hilariously caustic and cynical zingers that get slung around without abandon by its characters. However, Sunday’s (December 28) new episode was surprisingly mushy… at least, at the end. The episode started with its usual quippy cadence. Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) managed to ruin a weekend away with Angela (Ali Larter) by accidentally showing his junk to a hotel attendant delivering a surprise breakfast while he was still in bed… with the remnants of his Cialis overload in full view. This devolved into an argument...
