Low-life Harry falls in love with sweet Betty who inspires him to improve himself so he can marry her. He enters a $25, 000 cross-country hiking contest. After many adventures he wins, pays off his father Amos's mortgage and marries Betty.

Harry Shelby receives his first pair of long pants. He immediately falls in love with a cocaine-smuggling flapper named Bebe. When Bebe is imprisoned, he decides to rescue her; to do this, he must break off his forthcoming wedding to his childhood sweetheart Priscilla by any means necessary--including murder.

Harry Van Housen, the son of German immigrants, desperately wants to enlist in the United States Army during World War I in order to prove to his sweetheart that he is a true-blue American. Every time Harry volunteers for service, he is turned down for unfitness: he is underweight, four inches too short, nearsighted, flat-footed, and suffering from dandruff. Unwittingly, he comes across a German base being used to shuttle supplies to submarines off the United States coast; all unknowingly, he manages to free an American officer, blow up the base, and round up the spies. Harry is given a hero's welcome by his hometown, but he misses it, being too busy courting his girl to care about civic honors.

A wife, tired of her husband's non-stop carousing, sues him for divorce. The judge, however, comes up with a novel solution--he makes the husband take his wife's place in the household--including dressing like her--for 30 days to see what it's like to be his wife.

A meek Belgian soldier, fighting in World War I, receives a letter and a photo from "Mary Brown", an American girl he has never met. After the war, he travels to America searching for her.

Harry, The Odd Fellow, is a tenement worker who lives alone in a shack alongside a warehouse and longs for the companionship of a wife and children like other men.
