- Eddy Merckx is more than a champion cyclist; in his time of unprecedented sporting victory during the 1960s and '70s, he represented the fusion of Belgium's distinct Walloon and Flemish cultures. Filmmakers Christophe Hermans and Boris Tilquin have assembled this loving portrait of a somewhat shy, reserved star who pushed himself to extraordinary limits of pain and endurance. Even after suffering inevitable accidents and injuries, Merckx, through sheer perseverance and dedication, found ways to overcome the adversity he faced. His ambivalent personality, we learn, combined his father's iron will and his mother's generosity. This documentary, drawing on extensive TV archives, concentrates on Merckx's humble ascent, from early competitions to a 13-year run of international triumphs. But at some point during the peak of his career, the energy towards Merckx changed, the adoration was accompanied by jealousy and some felt he was winning too much. Then, in 1978 he retired, on medical advice. Today, Merckx is 79 and still active at various levels of the sport, although not the concern of the film, we are allowed some precious glimpses into his home and family life. Can the extreme, glamorous, tension-filled world of cycling replace the everyday joys and pains of a normal life? Merckx implicitly probes this question.
- Jean-Claude Van Damme has enjoyed a dizzying career as a high-octane action movie star. The highs and lows of his eventful life are told with archive footage and contributions from those close to the much-loved Belgian actor.
- Adamo himself retells the story of his extraordinary career: inspired by his musical miner father from Sicily, he began to write songs and perform as a teenager, culminating in the 1960s with three concurrent titles in the top five charts.
- Disco, the music of the 70s, is experiencing a furious comeback thanks to a few dedicated musicians, who remember their roots. Despite their Afro-American origins, the history of disco music would be inconceivable without a handful of legendary sound-buffs from Europe, who conjured up some of the biggest world hits in the anonymity of their studios.
- Ten members of the 75th Infantry Division return to the fields of Belgium where they fought in the Battle of the Bulge 60 years earlier.
- In the wake of Nicolas Hulot's shock resignation and in the run-up to COP 24, a behind-the-scenes look at the climate war that has been raging since the election of Donald Trump. The current issue is none other than the destruction or application of the Paris Agreement, signed in 2015 and which had set a maximum warming of 2 degrees in 2050. This documentary, enriched by the testimonies of the main actors of the Paris Agreement, including Laurent Fabius, president of the COP 21, lifts the veil on the war that the signatories have waged.
