In the first of eight episodes, writer Julia has just moved to NYC with her husband Noah, where she struggles to settle in. One day her home speaker system starts to transmit conversations from the various neighbors in her building, and Julia decides to listen in on their private lives.

When Julia continues to eavesdrop, she uncovers parts of her own life that are lacking, and receives an unexpected and disconcerting visit from Noah's boss, Henry.

Neighborly introductions are made. Meanwhile, Julia's listening habits start to reveal a sinister plot, potentially involving her husband, and she begins to probe further into his affairs.
