Origin and history of corticoid

corticoid(n.)

"steroid isolated from the adrenal cortex," 1941, from cortico-, combining form of Latin cortex (genitive corticis) "bark of a tree," in modern anatomy applied to enveloping parts or surfaces (see corium).
