it was amazing
bookshelves: thriller-mystery, favourites, horror

I feel reinvigorated by this book. I haven't truly loved a short story by King like this in a hot minute, and its reminded me how his quieter novels can sometimes have the biggest impact on me. I recognize my friends' criticism that it was "boring" and "oh the white male saviorness of it all" but I just truly loved this shit ya'll. It was simple, classic, and sharp.

Note: This book isn't horror. Recognizing that King's books usually transcend genre anyway, I believe this to be truly miscategorized and marketed.

Jade i feel the same way. but ive seen so many people saying “oh, i hate reading about social commentary. just show me the weirdness and gore! its stephen king, thats what i came here for!” and it makes me kind of upset. like, social commentary is so important to so many people and its infair to tell an author not to write any social commentary just because YOU dont like it. nevertheless, i agree 100% with this review. the characters were made so realistic in such a short period of time and the plot was paced so perfectly. i loved this novella.

Ileana Martínez Responding to Jackson above: Also, I feel like social commentary is SUCH an important part in most of King books, like, he’s always criticizing and analizying society and human nature in general, if you can’t see that in his horror books, then you’re blind.

SnazzyMoose (Lauren) I loved this little book. I’m glad you felt the same way. Your review is spot on.

Sous le ciel The reviews made me hesitant to read it but you've convinced me to pick it up!

Jennifer I enjoyed this book, too. And no, it's definitely not horror.

Dan I enjoyed this novella. Great book.

message 7: by Sarah (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sarah I've just started this! It's going to be my weekend read. I'm only one chapter in and it's reminding my of Thinner but with a twist and throwing me back to elements of Insomnia, though I can't pinpoint why, exactly. I can't wait to see where it goes.

The Fifth Eliot Omg just read it and loved it. That final scene! Reminded me of the little prince! “In one of them I shall be laughing...”

Melissa Seedorf I ALSO LOVED THIS BOOK!! My first thought was to look up what you thought once I finished :D

Danielle Woodward I absolutely loved this shit as well. I agree it's simple, classic and sharp. I actually teared up at the end.

Coy Hutcherson I'm glad I read your review in what seems to be a sea of negative ones. It wasn't his best novel, but it was definitely an enjoyable, quick read. Thank you for your review. I would have missed out on a pleasurable reading experience without it.

Alex Clement Just finished this and holy shit. I am a mess from that ending. It’ll definitely stick with me for a very long time
