Alexis I just got to one part in this book that broke my heart (at like 35%) but I'm really, really enjoying this book

Marie How can a war be possibly beautiful? How can be a rape beautiful? And how can be a concentration camp beautiful? And what about the lives after? Do you really think that the lives after were beautiful? I think you have not had grandparents who experienced the evil of WWII.

I'm pretty sure "Beautiful" is used to describe something well done, not to romanticize the atrocities of war. The book is beautiful because the writing is beautiful.
