Ro is a struggling artist who's reached a roadblock in her career. She thinks a more atmospheric setting will help her craft, so she purchases an old Victorian in a small town. But she's not the only one who lives in that house. Inside, is a strange being of shadows and nightmares that wants to give Ro more than the inspiration she seeks. But what happens when neither of them is satisfied?

THE ME YOU LOVE IN THE DARK is definitely a book for the monsterfuckers and the erotic horror babes. I loved the chilling atmosphere and the eldritch horrors. I feel like this is an allegory for maladaptive coping habits some artists have, whether it's because of drugs or untreated mental illness. There's a belief that one must suffer for one's art, and that addiction or mania or depression can supplement craft and add beauty and meaning. Sometimes people lean on their art instead of getting better and it becomes a symbol of their artistic strife. But art should never come before one's own well-being.
