really liked it

Rebecca yarros just knows how to rope me in, I swear it. I was absolutely captivated for about 70% of this story and was loving every single second of it!

Then, some plot twists were thrown in, but it felt like she didn’t really… let the reader know? I was thoroughly confused regarding two of the plot twists and that’s the ONLY reason this book lost its 5th star. Other than that, the romance was beautiful, the characters relatable and amazing. Loved it!

Kimi I’m about 40% in and I’m trying to predict the plot twists! Now I’m super curious to try and finish it tonight!!

message 2: by Rem (new) - rated it 4 stars

Rem I think I know which plot twist you are referring to and I felt the exact same! It kinda came out of nowhere and was then kinda glossed over?

Tracey Yeah, loved it…but still not sure who the actual father of juniper is. 🤷🏻‍♀️

message 4: by L (new) - rated it 4 stars

L Every time I finish a book I go to goodreads, rate the book, then read reviews to see if what I rated matches what someone else reviewed with the same amount of stars.. Your review hit it right on the head. I was so captivated to around the point and then all the plot twists kinda made it ...nottt so captivating lol.

Nikaela Schrauf **spoilers**

y’all talking about Juniper’s father and her mother’s disease, right? I could swear we saw her teaching? I just finished it and was so lost… I’m sure she mentioned Rachel was her assistant and mentioned something about her having to go to class… I’m deeply confused

Chelsea Burkett Agreed!! I swear rachel would say she had a class or a full day!

Christine I think they were just kind of playing along with her mother’s disease. It probably could’ve been explained better, but people can get confused about things, thinking they’re in the past. And sometimes it’s better to just go along with it.

message 8: by Clarissa (new) - added it

Clarissa Barr I’m 85% through, papers have been signed, and I’m still confused who the father is. Am I losing it or did she keep going back and forth on names?

message 9: by Clarissa (new) - added it

Clarissa Barr Okay I had to go back and read it several times before it finally clicked

message 11: by Ayla (new) - added it

Ayla Emphasis on “ thoroughly confused” 🤣
Spoilers:

-about her mom bc yes it did seem like she was teaching classes ?? So if they were just playing along with her confusion that wasn’t super clear
-the whiplash of figuring out juniper’s father was so so so confusing. I swear one page said it was Jacob after already saying it wasn’t, and then saying it was Vasily(?) because of his dimple when Hudson has dimples was not really clear, and then why was Lina sleeping with Vas anyways?? Idk I was just so lost which sucks cause I really did enjoy the book a lot!

Nicole Palmer ***Spoilers***

I am still confused about the juniper’s father conversation - it almost made me feel like Jacob and vasily were the same person for a second? Or that I missed something? I was getting non-consensual energy around that whole convo re: Lina and her getting pregnant, but I feel like it went so quickly and vaguely that I’m not even sure what actually happened

Erin Martino Spoilers-

Here I am thinking it was Maxim’s kid (vasily’s son) and Vasily and the mom made the agreement so I guess I am also confused

Kimberly Yong **spoilers**

I thought the Jacob bit was a bit confusing too but I think a red herring. My understanding is she sleeps with Vasily initally to try to get picked to get into the MBC. This doesn't work (she ends up going to San Francisco) but turns out she's pregnant... So she uses her pregnancy to blackmail Vasily because he has an prenup with his wife who is some fancy schmancy person in the company and finding out he has a daughter would ruin his career and that's how she gets into MBC the second time??

Kristy Saxon Agree 💯

message 16: by Julie (new) - rated it 3 stars

Julie Dunphy Omg I’m glad I wasn’t the only person who thought they said Jacob was the father and then I was going through the conversation with Vasily thinking what the fuck is going on right now? Same with the mother’s dementia.. I’m reading along thinking why is she talking like that. But a lot of things I had to do a second read over.

message 17: by Erica (new) - rated it 3 stars

Erica Are Jacob and Vasily not the same person? I’m still confused on that point lol

Montana Yes I was super confused on these points as well. I kept thinking I must’ve missed a chapter or two.

message 19: by holly (new) - rated it 4 stars

holly thibodeau **spoilers**

- i was also really confused when they were visiting her mom and they mentioned people being there to learn? was she teaching in the home?
- SO unclear i absolutely thought jacob and vasily were the same person i had to reread several times
- i still don’t understand how he’s in alaska. maybe i was reading that part too quickly, but i thought he was calling in a favour to move to NYC and then is suddenly in alaska?

message 20: by Kristi (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kristi Just finished this book and literally agree with everything yall have said! I gave up on trying to figure out the Jacob/Vasily thing cause it was not worth my time trying to go back 🙃😅

message 21: by Anna (new) - rated it 4 stars

Anna Williams Right! Outside of the confusion I was definitely pulled in and loving every bit. It was really just that last like 1/3 of the book like **spoiler** when she went to confront her mom and all the sudden she's stuttering and can't speak properly, then we don't really find out what's going on with her until later. Directly before they said something about her speaking French so here I am thinking she is just not good with English 😭 then the whole Jacob/Vasily thing. I just chalked it up to them being the same person and continued reading.

message 22: by Hailey (new) - rated it 4 stars

Hailey Jo **spoiler***

Her father is Vasily. He admitted it on the yacht.

message 23: by Kayla (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kayla Urban There was so much confusion with who the father is …. I gave up towards the end because it didn’t add up

message 24: by Tracey (new) - rated it 3 stars

Tracey Glad I’m not the only one who was confused!

Erinnn I was confused about Jacob/Vasily, too! Spoilers*** Also, agree that it seemed as though he was going to move to NY and then was in Alaska. The last bit lost me for a while. I think after 11 years, there shouldnt have been a goose chase (approx 30 pages) for them to end up back together. I lived the whole book til the end. Still very good!

message 26: by Julia (new) - rated it 3 stars

Julia Cher I think Jacob was the red herring to lead us into the shocking reveal, and Vasily took advantage of Lina, who bonked him to climb the ladder, but she got pregnant. To cover his butt, he gave her a prestigious position but made her give up the child. Eva then figured out it was Vasily’s (somehow related to a very identifying dimple) and used that as leverage as well.

message 27: by Sydni (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sydni Dreimiller Jacob was another dancer at MBC, like Everett. Eloise suspected he was the father, but it was never confirmed. Lina was not offered a contract, so she slept with Vasily, and both she and her mother used the pregnancy as leverage. (We will not go public about the pregnancy if you give Lina a contract)

I do the same thing.

message 29: by Megan (new) - rated it 4 stars

Megan Cartee Y’all nailed exactly how I felt.

message 30: by Jenn (new) - rated it 2 stars

Jenn Stoffer So glad I wasn’t alone in this! Thought I was showing signs of dementia being unable to piece the story line together! The father twist, where Hudson moved, the mother who suddenly can’t talk but was before coherent, actual typos missed before print. Good gracious. And I love Yarros. This book from her just wasn’t it for me.

Claire Yee Same! I was SOOOO confused I had to go back and read. I thought Hudson had moved to NY but then all of sudden they are in Alaska? Same with the mom. I couldn’t figure out why she could barely speak. I felt kind of bad for the mom because she was being screamed at and then we find out she has dementia? The confusion knocked down a star for me.
