Us in Ruins

One of my most anticipated books of the year. The modern references to Starbucks, phones, and Taylor Swift felt very clunky and forced, and took me out of the book and the atmosphere I was trying to immerse myself in. Margot, the main character, was wonderfully confident in herself, headstrong, and passionate. But her decisions annoyed me at times, not to mention the fact she was surprised Van didn’t want to take her on his expedition despite her having 0 experience in the field of archeology.
Overall, this book has made me realize that I’ve outgrown sections of the YA genre. Which is disappointing, and I’m sad about it. But I know that this book has its audience out there! It just didn’t end up being me..
