Read 2 times. Last read September 28, 2023 to October 1, 2023.
I had a really hard time starting this book, the first 100 pages took me quite a while but once I got into the story I could not put it down. I do not know if it was just the need for world building to catch up to keeping me in the story or what because it was a good story from the start. I think any time I find a new author the first 100 pages are the hardest. Once into the story though I was completely captivated and I have started book 2 now.
The story is set in an alternate timeline where Rome has not won the Punic wars and have been pushed off the Iberian peninsula, our protagonist is from our distant future who grew up on a space station and was testing a new craft that threw him back in time to this alternate timeline. Rome is nearing defeat at the hands of the Carthaginians and he comes to the rescue of the Emperors daughter. I never include spoilers in my reviews so it will have to stop there but it is a fascinating read and one I highly recommend.
