Paracosm I also thought it was super boring when I started reading it, ended up DNFing it at like 70% or something like that because I kept waiting for it to get better and never did. Other books by the author are equally as bad.

Phil I'm trying to get through it now and it's a slog - I love southern gothic and the setting is great, but the writing is disjointed and the dialogue just isn't doing it for me (not to mention the actual Elementals seeming a bit too generic).
