Not because of any particular reason but just because I have so many books on my TBR. Though I kept hearing great things about this book. So I once again got myself a months worth of audiobooks. It didn't work at first and I could only listen to fragments, like the first 5 minutes of the book. So I was testing it all out with 'the call' because it was on there, I listened to the first 5 minutes and decided I wanted to hear the rest. The book finds place in Ireland and the narrator was Irish which made it all so much more interesting and vivid to me. I really ended up enjoying this book. It's very different but still has that hunger games kind of vibe over it and it had been quite a while since I read a book like that. It was great coming back to. I really enjoyed how you got to experience other 'calls' how not everything was just from nessa's POV. Though she's clearly the main character. I definetly recommend reading this!...more

I haven't really read any self-help books. Not from front to back and in a serious way. Now I did know this wasn't the typical self-help book but boy was it great. There were many chapters discussing a lot of different things. I mostly knew the stuff that was discussed in the book already, but reminders are great. And a clear explanation is very nice from time to time too. Sometimes, to explain a point, he tells a story, a story that has happened with, for example celebrities. It's really interesting because I got the feeling I learned a lot from that too. My favorite chapters was boundaries and I would definetly go back to that chapter. Also 'saying no' was a great one. Though, because it was an audiobook I sometimes have trouble focussing, this made for me not realling understanding all the points he made around 75% in the book so I would like to find a physical copy and take me time reading that again. The narrator for the audiobook was really great too so I really recommend it. Basicallyif the title seems like something you want to read it probably is, or at least it was for me....more

I wanted to read this book for a long time already and with the new Netflix serie coming up I felt like I had no excuse. I had to read it and am I glad I did. I am so in love with the writing style Lemony Snicket uses. And while it's a kids book it still has some 'difficult' words especially for younger people, I love how he explains those words in a way that you notice but it doesn't bother. To me the descriptions of the places they went (especially count Olaf's house) are very clear and I could really picture it which was great! I just really love this book and I would recommend it to every age!...more

I really liked this book. When I put down 'I hate myselfie' I right away picked up 'it gets worse'. I had read reviews that 'it gets worse is better than 'I hate myselfie' and it really is. The just over the line jokes now were on the line. They were funny and I wasn't annoyed by how he actually shouldn't say that. Also, like I read in a lot of reviews, this book is more like 'the real Shane Dawson'. The other book was written as his youtube personality, which I still enjoyed but it was actually a lot nicer to read a book a bit more serious and a bit more real. It was still definetly Shane, and when I say that I mean DEFINETLY. But I liked that about it. The essays were also a bit more 'dark'. Overall the whole book was just more serious than 'I hate myselfie' and in a great way. Also I love how his mum wrote the last chapter, you go girl!...more

Look it's really hard for me to rate this book because of some of the 'humour' in this. I've been watching shane for years already so I know his humour, for some reason it doesn't bother me a lot when he makes fun of something or someone, he makes fun of everything and everyone including himself. But it's hard to walk the line and not overstep it and write or say something really inappropriate. I feel that in this book he overstepped that line a few times. It really made me cringe, he just went a bit too far a few times. I read a few reviews on this book and some people rated it 1 star for that reason. I get why they did that but I was definetly not planning to rate this book 1 star because of a few mistakes. Because overall I did really enjoy the stories. To imagine these things really happened to him sometimes is unbelievable.. But then you realise it´s Shane´s book and everything makes sense. To me every single essay/story in this book was really enjoyable. So I would in fact recommend it to people. It's just a shame of some of the jokes in this book. But definetly not all either....more

It started out really interesting an I, too was curious what was going on, was there a reason? Or was it just explaining how life works in an extravagant way? Then it suddenly, and I really really mean suddenly. Went a whole other way and I was just so confused. In the end I didnt get the answer to my question and instead got a weird ass ending. What also bothered me is how the kids suddenly became almost like philosophers.
(view spoiler)[ I did read a review of someone who explained the last bit and it did interest me, the kids ask the teacher to make love to Helen, the assistant teacher, this was extremely weird to suddenly red for me. But the review did explain it. This story is about a school but you don't read about them learning to read or write, but you do read about them learning to deal with death. A.k.a. things you need to know in life. I think that's why the children wanted to see that, because it's something you need to know in life. Nonetheless I still think it was a preettyy weird plot change. (hide spoiler)]
