I'm still having problem connecting with the characters. Me not connection, makes me feel like I'm on the outside looking in and it makes it hard to enjoy/like the characters. There's so much information missing, that makes this book feel...not whole. Like the pieces doesn't fit when we don't have all the information that S.E. Jakes probably has given us in her other books. But that information about that wasn't given to us without us having to stalk her profiles. As far as the story goes, it just goes. There's nothing special about it, expect all the similarities to Cut & Run series. Why I had continued with this series, is a question beyond me. “I realize you're planning on fighting all the dragons single-handedly-" [image] Quick basic facts: Genre: - (Adult) Contemporary Romance (M/M) Series: - Series, Book Three Love triangle? - (view spoiler)[No. (hide spoiler)] Cheating? - (view spoiler)[No. (hide spoiler)] HEA? - (view spoiler)[Cliffhanger of sorts. Jordy is in love with his best friend and Owen needs his best friend in his life. Overall, it's a cute, fast forward and short book. It doesn't have much depth, and not much happens, but it's an okay read that make the time pass. I didn't connect with either of the characters, but as it was short and still somewhat enjoyable, it was okay. (view spoiler)[There's no anal sex in this book. (hide spoiler)] Timeline: → 7 (second grade) Jordy and Owen meet and became best friends. → 11 (sixth grade) Pin Man and Pencil Boy comics; Art by Jordan Carson. Story by Owen Nelson. Jordy finds himself getting hard-ons while Owen wrestles. → 12 (seventh grade) Kissed for the first time; Owen made Jordy promise not to do it again. Ever. → 16 (sophomore) Owen got his first girlfriend, Emily Abrams. → 16 (junior year) Jordy decided to come out at school. Jordy gave Owen a blowjob. First time for both, even though Owen is still dating Emily. → 17 (senior year) Jordy tells Owen he needs space because he's in love with him. Tells him they're going to different colleges. Owen breaks up with Emily and decides he can't live without Jordy and stops hiding his true love for him. → 19 (sophomore year of college) Owen is openly bi and in a relationship with Jordy. Both he and Jordy goes to the same college; Jordy in the art department and Owen wrestling for UW Badgers NYU. Quick basic facts: Genre: - (Mature YA) Contemporary Romance (M/M). Series: - Standalone. Love triangle? - (view spoiler)[No, not really, even though Owen gets a girlfriend. Levi and Dominic are getting even closer, however everything is pulling them apart; even themselves. The Seven of Spades are upping their games and are always three steps ahead of the police. They are also fixated on Levi. Levi is seriously struggling with his emotions; he's about to explode, and Dominic is struggling with his gambling addiction which are put on the front runner as he has a chase where gambling is included. Overall, I didn't like how different of a character Dominic was in this book. I felt disconnected to him and I didn't like it. It sorta ruined things for me. “You’re the—the gentlest person I’ve ever met,” he said. “But somehow that never comes across as weakness. I don’t know how you do that.” OTHER CHARACTERS: → Natasha Stone, one of the counselors in the LVMPD’s Police Employee Assistance Program → Nancy and Saul Abrams, Levi's parents. → Silvia, Dom's paternal grandmother. Rita, his mother. Natalie, his niece. → Stanton Barclay, young scion of a multibillion-dollar hotel empire and was Levi's boyfriend of three years. → Detective Martine Valcourt, Levi's work partner. Her husband, Antoine. Mikayla and Simone, their daughters. → Rebel, Dom's hundred-pound German Shepherd–Rottweiler mix. → Carlos Guerrero and Jasmine Anderson, Dom's neighbors. → Dominic's the third of five children, and the only one of his siblings still unmarried. Soon to be the only one without kids too, since his youngest sister Gina had just announced her first pregnancy a few weeks ago. Angela, the oldest of the five, then there's brother Vincent and sister Theresa. And Dom's brother-in-law Howard; married to Theresa? → Deputy District Attorney Leila Rashid → Adriana Velazquez (16), foster child. → Keith Chapman, was a detective with Levi. Killed himself after being framed by Seven of Spades. → Dr. Angela Tran, Keith's psychiatrist. Nancy waved a hand. “So come the day after Christmas. Three years later Brad makes Coles his best man at his wedding to his CEO of Sterling Security's daughter, Jenny. Also I couldn't connect with any of the characters. I didn't even like them all that much. The book centers around South London mechanic, Devan ‘Dev’ Thompson (24) who is in Porthkennack looking for his mother who gave him up at birth. While being there he mets Kyle Anthony (33) who suffers from narcolepsy. The two find themselves wanting to be around each other, but Dev is only there on vacation. Also who would ever want to put up with someone who can fall asleep anytime. Overall, I just didn't care for the story, nor the characters. I started skimming, even the sex scene, and that's when you know the book doesn't do it for you. I also disliked Ceri Harper a lot. There's also the insta-love feeling. I didn't like the story, I didn't like the characters and I didn't like the writing. The book centers around tattoo artist August ‘Gus’ ‘Goose’ Scott (29) and firefighter Rey Montenegro (32?). Along with Gus' brothers, Barrett ‘Bear’ Jackson, Mason ‘Mace’, Luke Muñoz and Ivo Scott. Gus comes home after being on the road for 6 month; he found out he have a son, Chris (soon 3). Coming home also means seeing the man who broke his heart, Rey. Can Rey get Gus to give him a chance? Overall, the book was confusing in the first 20% and extremely boring throughout the book. The writing just didn't do it for me, and I couldn't connect at all to any of the stories. Hell, I wasn't even interested. Though not bad, it was rather... predictable and everything seemed so...expected. I had hoped for something more... powerful? I don't know how to describe it, but I had expected something that would give me the feeling of 'oh shit' or 'oh no' or something like that. Instead I got...well not a lot. Sure, I got action, drama, murders, eyes missing and so on, but I felt like the passion was missing, specially considering that book number five will be the last one. Overall, it was somewhat better than book three, but not by much. “I don’t give a shit how anyone else treats me….you’re the only one who makes it hurt so much.” OTHER CHARACTERS: → Natasha Stone, one of the counselors in the LVMPD’s Police Employee Assistance Program → Nancy and Saul Abrams, Levi's parents. → Silvia, Dom's paternal grandmother. Merged review: ⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*A little disappointed*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱ We're back with forth book of homicide detective of four years, Levi Samuel Abrams (how old?) and then bounty hunter and now private investigator and still part-time bartender (at Stingray, a LGBT nightclub), Dominic ‘Dom’ Russo (32), both still hunted and searching for the Seven of Spades. Kelly is in love with his best friend, and though Blue loves his best friend, he believes himself straight. However, he doesn't like other men circling around Kelly. He's a jealous man. But he has no right to be jealous, now does he...? Overall, the book has huge potential, Kelly had that sarcasm that I like in characters, however so much was missing for the story. The big miss was pain. There was absolutely no pain in the book. I though that being rejected or having ones heart pulled back and forth would make one feel pain. But there was nothing. Not even mentioning of pain. That kinda ruined the book for me. There was also the fact that I didn't like how Blue kept pulling Kelly in, only to let go again. I hate selfish people. I did like his jealousy though... Despite my bitterness about the subject, deep down inside, I think I was waiting on the fantasy, still hoping for the impossible. And I wasn’t willing to compromise. I sighed inwardly. I was as delusional and optimistic as any Disney princess. It was going to look fantastic on my eHarmony profile. I’d use Snow White as my fucking avatar. She found seven men. Specially when it comes to the ages of the characters, because that changed more than once throughout the book... The story centers police officer Evan Cerelli (34? 35?) and disgraced former cop turned security consultant, Matthew ‘Matt’ ‘Matty’ Haight (42? 45?). Maybe that was the connection then. You grieve with every fiber of your being when the thing you love most is ripped out of your life. Evan lost his wife a almost a year ago and his life has been bleak ever since. He's keeping himself a live and fighting for his kids; Miranda (16? 17? <--- changed three times!), Kathleen (how old?), Elizabeth (8) and her twin brother Danny (8), but he's stopped living and is just surviving for his kids. “You become a cop and they teach you about protecting people and keeping them safe. I had to quit this book simply because I know on the first page that the book wouldn't be for me. I couldn't connect with any of the character, perhaps because of the POV or the way it was written, but it just didn't work for me. I didn't feel anything for it, not the character because of the lack of connection. I need connection. There's also the fact that I didn't feel the chemistry between Dan and Marc. Ugh. Am I the only one who feels this way? Rate: No rating as I didn't finish it. Merged review: DNF at 24% The book centers around rookies for the Leafs, Dan Riley (18) and Marc Lapointe (18). Which is odd since Sam's my favorite in Mary Calmes 's Marshals series. Sam just doesn't do it for me in this one. One should love a main character more than a side character.... at least for me, to get invested in a series. 2) Jory annoys me. I mean, he never takes anything seriously, nor does he have any depth. 3) Everyone is always and constantly touching Jory. Why? 4) The back and forth. Jory running instead of fighting and Sam being a coward. 5) The sex scenes are not hot to read. I sometimes struggle with knowing when they have sex. That being said, the concept in itself is alright, but the main characters just doesn't work for me as main characters should. Overall, the again re-read of this series will stop here as I don't like what Dane does in book three. New rating: 2.5/2 stars. [image] ⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*I'm depressed*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱ Re-read: 16.04.2018 DOES CONTAIN SPOILERS!!! In second bok of the A Matter of Time series, Sam struggles with being so needy of Jory. Specially when he thought his future will involve a woman and kids. Dane ‘fires’ Jory so he can start a career instead of just doing a job. But to make sure Jory will always be in his life, Dane makes Jory become his brother; Jory Keyes becomes Jory Harcourt. He start to work at Barrington as graphic designer with a partner to develop branding for new clients. Overall, Jory is still not taking anything serious. Not even life and death situations. He also continuing to be stupid and people are still annoyingly telling him how gorgeous he is (we get it!) and touching him all the time (we get that he's a loving person). Needless to say, I don't get why I'm re-reading this series; I just can't find anything else to read. [image] Other characters: The list is a bit long so I've put it in a spoilers tag. Now, I almost felt like this book wasn't about Jory ‘J’ Keyes (view spoiler)[becomes Harcourt (hide spoiler)] (22, becomes 23) and Samuel ‘Sam’ ‘Sammy’ Thomas Kage (34). It was like reading a chapter of Jory's life, his life of meeting people, instantly connecting with folks and getting a brother. Also, the blurb of the book really spoils the book as the kidnapping doesn't happen until the very end. And who the kidnapper were was really predictable, and Jory was kinda stupid there. “You put me through it when you left, and I've been so...pissed... at you and then that night I saw you out and you look like you're okay you're fine without me, and—and I just wanted to take you home and... then the other night. Jory keeps forgiving Sam: Sam messes up, Jory leaves. Sam dates a woman, then asks Jory to take him back, Jory takes him back and something happens again and Sam leaves. I loved him in the Marshals series, but in this one, I feel like we don't really get to know him. I really dig Dane Harcourt though. Might actually like him better than everyone else.... “Everybody wants to touch you all the time. I'm the only one who can't when I want to be the only one that can.” Quick basic facts: G ...more |

Nothing to write home about, nor something I'd want to read again. It was predictable, but still cute. It centers around defenseman for the Atlanta Venom, Tristan ‘Tris’ ‘Holtzy’ Holt (23) and sociology professor, Sebastian ‘Seb’ Cruz (34?) who just can't help the attraction between them. However, one is out and proud while the other is still in the closet. Overall, it was still a nice read, but I wished it had been better. Miranda (22), Evan's oldest daughter has a boyfriend now, Kent Moran (22), and want to get married. After these news, a Thanksgiving dinner is planned with all of them, plus Kent's parents. Who comes into the house without knowing that Miranda's dad is with a man. Or that they are cops in the house. “I used to be an angry, lonely prick. Then I met a guy with four amazing kids and more issues than the Sports Illustrated back catalog and boom—happiness.” Overall, this was a nice read, but it annoyed me too much to enjoy it. I didn't like Miranda in the book. She's a cruel, manipulating person who takes it out on Evan, but mostly Matt. And I don't, really don't, like how Evan let's Miranda get away with it. I keep being unsatisfied with this series. I feel like Evan isn't really fully into the relationship as Matt is. I seriously feel - and believe - like Matt deserves better. I do adore Kathleen ‘Katie’ (19?) and Matt's relationship - their closeness - as I like Matt having someone on his side. The twins Elizabeth (12) and Danny (12) are adorable though. “Do me a favor, elope when you’re forty.” Evan sighed as he walked over to where Katie was standing.
