Every time I thought that I understood what direction the story was headed in it ended up going somewhere else. It seemed that it was going to be about technology but it ended up being about some unusual people and even that got changed up. I see that most people really liked this story but overall it just didn’t really work for me. ...more

The story is fine but I’m really reading this one for the setting. I love reading books that take place in cities that I’ve been to and there’s no metropolitan area that I know better. The action is taking place on streets that I travel all the time and they are talking about restaurants that I’ve been to. They even had a foot chase into the I10 Deck Park Tunnel. As if the traffic through there wasn’t bad enough now I have to worry about pedestrians. ...more

I picked this book out because I thought it was scientific looking at how time works in music. And it sort of started out that way but quickly became a memoir of the author and her struggles trying to become a violin soloist. I guess I would have preferred that the book would have been about how time affects music or a memoir about the violinist. And if it’s an autobiography I really prefer that the author actually read their own story. It just seems to lack emotion when it’s told by someone else. ...more

My wife mentioned that Sophie Kinsella died recently and she recommended that I read this book so I gave it a try. The main character is a lot of fun and I like the situation that she is in but I was a little surprised that there wasn’t more romance in the story. But my biggest surprise was just how anxious all of her frivolous spending made me feel. Fortunately the story addresses her problem and I was able to finish the book and now I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. ...more

I thought that I’d read this before and this was going to be a reread but I haven’t. I guess I’ve only seen the movie before. I really liked the movie and watching it first maybe made it earlier to visualize what all was going on in this story.
I’ve gotten to look at Mars through the telescope that Percival Lowell used to speculate about the canals on Mars at the Lowell Observatory. And I love all of the science fiction that has come from that tiny and hard to discern image. It’s really inspired generations of storytellers. ...more
