Anyone who says he has read Joyce and Proust is either an awful fibber or way above my pay grade. I don't believe you've read Balzac's The Lilly of the Valley (not sure if that's the English translation of the title, actually) but I just finished it for a course and would highly recommend it to you. My preface introduces it as La Princesse de Cleves of Romanticism... I mean, what else do you need to know?

Most of the classics were ruined for me because I had to translate them. I hated ancient Greek a lot. I liked the plays the most, so maybe The Birds.

Indeed! I am envious of your century reading plans, but with all my old books (I was a Classics major) in Canada, starting one of my own isn't presently feasible.
