    A disappointment

Cyberpunk 2077 rides on a lot of goodwill from the incredible Witcher 3. Without that goodwill the hype would not be there. Unfortunately, I can't say that it has lived up to the hype. Everyone has talked the bugs and performance issues to death so I won't repeat them. They're bad, really bad, but probably fixable. What isn't fixable is the game itself. There's no RPG to this RPG. The story railroads you from one mission to another, the three starting prologues all lead to the same place with the same beats, no matter if you're a Corpo or a Nomad your V will act like the same streetwise edgelord so it doesn't matter. There's no real dialogue choices, you have one dialogue option and some optional chit chat below it. The characters are all forgettable and it's often unclear why you're supposed to care about the missions. Person X wants item Y but Person Z wants you to screw over Person X etc etc. At no point did I feel any connection to anybody or any sense of why I'm doing what I'm doing. It's all edgy but shallow characterisation. The dialogue is also wooden and gives me no reason to care. The world is impressive... at first. Then you realise it's all an elaborate shallow stage. You can barely talk to any civilians and they just mindlessly walk straight ahead. No interactions or cool moments like in GTA or RDR. If you shoot your gun dozens of NPCs go into an identical crouching animation forever. The cops can be defeated by standing against a wall as they always spawn behind you. It never feels like you're in a living world, more like a heavily choreographed stage surrounded by lifeless robots. The gameplay is also unsatisfying. There's a heavy focus on gunplay but none of the guns feel satisfying. Enemies are bullet sponges and you barely react to being shot. Ironically swords break the game by stun locking enemies. Stealth is almost impossible to pull off and hacking is clunky so they're rarely viable options. It hurts to admit but this is a bad game.

    The games is great, but...

The graphics are amazing, the plot gets more and more interesting, but: 1. The controls are horrible in their current state (double tap to dash in PC ... crouch for skipping dialog ... WHY?!). They seem to be designed with a controller in mind instead of a keyboard and mouse. 2. FOV has a top value of 100?! 3. At the beginning the plot goes ok, and suddenly a super rushed cinematic and boom, you're in the same place no matter what lifepath you choose. 4. Cars exploded out of nowhere, characters skip frames in their animations, and other really weird bugs here and there. I really hope that a future patch deals with this issues, because I really want to love the game, but the game keeps tilting me ...

    Disappointed

Ten years in development? Its nothing special. Good: - It looks good - Sounds good Bad: - PC keybinding incomplete. - Hacking and gunplay is medicore and clunky - Very Buggy - Ancient RPG cruft gamedesign (i.e items require levels) - Zero random NPC interaction. Makes the game feel empty even in crowded places. - No 3rd Person perspective anywhere. - User interface is a mess. Everything is tiny and super stylized, doesn't look cool. - Stealth is .. not working. - Doesn't feel like an RPG, more like a pimped up action shooter. No more preorder from CDProjektRED

    Cyberpunk 2077, an enigma

Oh man, looking back retrospectively after 8 hours, it's not lived up to it's hype nor delays. So I started the game with a big excitement, it's been a good couple of years and 2020 needed a good wrap up. This ain't it chief. The Good: + Main story is gripping (as far as Act 1 goes) + Characters are very likeable/detestable + Acting and animation is on point + Firearms feel good + Fantastic art direction + City is stunning looking... The Bad: - ...but not as "dense" as you'd expect a megacity to be - Melee combat is just not too good. Blocking is spotty, swords seem to feel delayed in sound - Firing a gun is fun, but looking at DPS upgrades isn't - Crafting feels like a late game past time, most guns require exotic components which are not exactly that common. There's not much reason to wait for a bajilion new guns that enemies drop for the extra stats rather than upgrading or crafting a new weapon. - Skill tree feels very generic, mostly stat upgrades like "Do X% extra Y" - Inventory system, just all of it. Selling multiple items is a chore since the whole inventory needs to do a refresh before you can send the next item. - It's not much in terms of "roleplay", lifepaths are boiled down to: Different Prologue, Extra Dialogue Lines - Usable items just keep piling up in my inventory, never used, despite running on hardest difficulty. There's just not that much incentive to use them as opposed to witcher. The Ugly: - The bugs. Oh god the bugs. - This game was delayed so many times, why are there so many glaring bugs? - Texture pop in - Doubletapping a direction key by accident while stealthing is very irritating. - Augments are slightly disappointing, no notable cosmetic augments so far (Played until Act II) - UI is clearly catered to consoles, it's not a great experience while playing on PC. TLDR: Needs more bugfixing, needs more content, needs some re-working. My expectations were tempered, but I wasn't expecting to feel that much disappointment.

Was a QA team even formed for this game?

Not even 30 seconds in and I'm encountering multiple immersion breaking bugs, the biggest one being NPCs are silent when talking to them, their mouthes move but no sound. Clone NPCs, duplicate objects like a phone someone's holding spawns over and over and over... Badly optimized as well, so disappointing. I will change my review score if CDPR improves the state of the game. Wake the f**k up, CDPR.. You've got a game to fix!
