Mel Wright

Mel Wright - drummer has provided a steady back beat for blues bands during the sixties and beyond - accompanying American blues legends like Lightnin Slim, Arthur Big Boy Crudup and Champion Jack Dupree. Mel's cross rhythms were influenced by the African drummer Ginger Johnson and a love of Art Blakey's drumming. His former day job was as a community worker in north London.. For the past ten years Mel has played with the Green Chain Quartet pinning down a Bluenote label style beat that attracts a regular audience to their monthly gig on the first Thursday in the month at the Daylight Inn, Petts Wood where they also donate their door money to the Bromley Food Bank, Ukraine Appeal, MSF Doctors without borders and Amnesty International. www.greenchainquartet.com
