“Isabella Swan, I promise to love you every moment forever.” That’s Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) telling said Swan (Kristen Stewart) what most people anywhere would like to hear – and believe – at least once in their lifetime.
Perhaps that’s why the Twilight Saga novels and movies have been so incredibly popular. The new Eclipse trailer has already been viewed nearly one million times on YouTube ever since its release … a few hours ago (March 11). The teaser trailer, released several hours earlier, has been viewed nearly 3.5 million times.

I’m not so sure that’s all teen girl power. In addition to female adults, there are lots of closeted male romantics out there. They wouldn’t be caught dead watching on their own any of the The Twilight Saga movies on the big screen, but they could subtly ensure that a female friend or girlfriend or wife or daughter or aunt invite them to a screening.
Else, if the fates work against such heart-popping opportunity, they’ll surreptitiously rent the movie via some online service or other. Or they’ll get a DVD delivered by mail.

In other Kristen Stewart news, Welcome to the Rileys has been picked up for distribution in the United States, Mike Fleming reports at Deadline.com.
Written by Ken Hixon, directed by Jake Scott, and costarring The Sopranos’ James Gandolfini and Best Actress Academy Award nominee Melissa Leo (Frozen River, 2008), Welcome to the Rileys was shown at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where the performances were received warmly – the film itself less so.
Expletives galore to shock Bella Swan fans
Kristen Stewart, in particular, caused a sensation of sorts because in Welcome to the Rileys the sweet, lovestruck Bella Swan of the Twilight movies plays the role of a pole dancer-cum-sex worker who spits out one hair-raising expletive after another.
With no distributor in sight at Sundance, Stewart’s fans decided to take matters into their own hands by bombarding potential Welcome to the Rileys buyers with e-mails requesting the film’s release (see further below).
Whether or not that was a deciding factor is unclear, but Apparition and Sony Worldwide have acquired Scott’s low-budget drama for a reported seven figures. A fall 2010 release is planned.
‘Fascinatingly uneven’
In Welcome to the Rileys, James Gandolfini plays a middle-aged man whose teenage daughter has died. While on a business trip in New Orleans, he meets a young, foul-mouthed pole dancer (that’s Kristen Stewart) whom he decides to rescue from a fate worse than Hurricane Katrina. Melissa Leo is Gandolfini’s bereaved wife.
After calling the film “a fascinatingly uneven movie,” Film School Rejects’ Neil Miller adds:
Kristen Stewart is at her bravest. … Stewart plays through all of these layers incredibly well. She’s sexy, tortured and frightened. At some points, all at once. This isn’t her character from Twilight. It is a far more mature role, and one that is a polar opposite to Bella.
Roger Ebert, for his part, calls Welcome to the Rileys “an unlikely melodrama,” adding that “Gandolfini, Stewart and Leo inhabit it with persuasive performances.”

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which stars idols Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner, and was directed by David Slade, has lost a song by the British band Muse, whose music had been used in the two previous installments of the series, Twilight and The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
According to various reports, drummer Dominic Howard didn’t blame Twilight Saga novelist Stephenie Meyer, explaining, “It’s nothing to do with Stephenie; she’s totally cool. It’s the people in the movie business, completely outside of the writers and the creative types; the non-creative types I suppose are the people who are quite hard to deal with in Hollywood, so it didn’t work out.” The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which is scheduled to hit theaters June 30, is being distributed by Summit Entertainment.
Howard adds, “We sure will [release it]. I mean, it was great. We worked on it in Australia, we were ready to record, we were going to do some recording with [producer] Butch Vig, so we might still do it. I’m sure the song will definitely come to life for real at some point, but I think for this film it’s not going to happen.”

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse should have its official trailer debut in time for Robert Pattinson’s new vehicle Remember Me, which opens March 12. However, last-minute changes are taking place in the Twilight Saga: Eclipse saga. Besides dropping the song by the British band Muse from the film’s soundtrack, that also includes replacing editor Art Jones with Nancy Richardson.
According to EW.com, Nancy Richardson, who edited Catherine Hardwicke’s original Twilight film, was brought on board because Summit Entertainment said director David Slade’s material “needed a stronger edit.” EW adds that “the studio has more confidence in Richardson, who they say understands the emotion of the characters and is an ace at balancing action with the other elements of the film.” Jones had previously worked with Slade in 30 Days of Night and Hard Candy.
Also in regard to this issue, Dread Central reported that “David Slade was excitedly tweeting about the progress of his editing process, including this statement: ‘Cutting like crazy, the film is getting closer working through the weekends again, adding more EDWARD!'”
But “maybe he still wasn’t adding enough Edward.”
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is scheduled to open June 30.
Robert Pattinson stars in “The Remasculation of the American Man,” a photographic essay published by Details magazine in celebration of its 10th anniversary. Even ignoring the fact that Pattinson is actually British, I couldn’t quite figure out how a statement such as “I really hate vaginas. I’m allergic to vaginas” would sound very “remasculating.” In the Details interview Pattinson also says that “the only emotional connection of relevance [I have] is with my dog. My relationship with my dog, it’s ridiculous.” Just as ridiculous, apparently, are rumors about his romancing fellow Twilight Saga star Kristen Stewart, though I should add that the dog-relationship quote was taken from a comment about one of Pattinson’s uncles.
The Details interview, written by screenwriter Jenny Lumet (of Rachel Getting Married, and daughter of Sidney Lumet), is a raunchily enjoyable and at times illuminating read, as Pattinson seems to possess an offbeat, self-deprecating sense of humor. And it’s certainly not to be taken all that seriously. (Perhaps all that beer drunk during the interview is to blame.) Sample quote: “I find it really funny – if I got shot, I would literally be in hysterics. I would be like, ‘Are you serious? Jesus Christ, get Zac Efron! He’s got more social relevance than I do.'”
Another curious quote refers to a beloved Disney cartoon that I hate. While discussing disfiguring, bizarre illnesses, Lumet explain, “We come up with a blockbuster hit movie, entitled Candiru Infestation, about a tiny fish that swims up your urethra and into your urinary tract and lodges in your cock with backward-facing umbrella spikes it shoots from its spine.”
“’Fucking brilliant! It could be like Finding Nemo!’ says Rob. ‘And the little candiru is lost in the balls! Think of the soundtrack!'”
“Finding Candiru” aside, Norman Jean Roy’s sensual, provocative photos are stunning. In one, Pattinson is shot from above while lying on a green-tiled bathroom floor next to a naked blonde model in a half-filled bathtub, in another he’s having his chest caressed by a woman in her undergarments, and in yet another he’s sitting with his head between the long legs of a female model while another bare-buttocked model holds his hand. Prudes will be appalled – and that’s always a good thing.
The Details photo shoot will hit newsstands on Feb. 23, around the time Remember Me, starring Pattinson, directed by Allen Coulter and written by Will Fetters (with some rewriting provided by interviewer Lumet), opens in the United States and several other countries.

That The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will apparently be two movies instead of one should come as no surprise. Successful franchises are always stretched out as much as possible; see George Lucas’ Star Wars with all its sequels and prequels and sequels of prequels and the like. Also, this year we’ll see Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 to be followed in 2011 by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1I.
That’s why Stephenie Meyer’s four-book Twilight series will become a five-movie Twilight series starring early 21st-century idols Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner. The two-part Breaking Dawn installment, to be adapted by Twilight Saga screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, will reportedly be filmed back-to-back in the fall. It will quite possibly feature oddities found in Meyer’s 756-page novel, including teen pregnancy, abortion, interspecies love & sex, and adult-werewolf love for totally weird newborn half-vampire child. How those plot points will be presented is another matter altogether. (When asked what she thought about the Twilight series going 3D, Stewart said the idea sounds “scary and very exciting. … It’d be out there.”)
According to Vanity Fair, Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe is currently no. 6 among Hollywood’s biggest moneymakers; don’t be too surprised if Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner hit the top 10 or 15 list when 2010 income figures are tallied. (According to Deadline Hollywood, Lautner will be paid $7.5 million for Stretch Armstrong.)

The Yellow Handkerchief, The Runaways, and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, in which she’s the human side of the human, vampire (Robert Pattinson) and werewolf (Taylor Lautner) triangle, are three of her films scheduled to open this year. Welcome to the Rileys, in which she plays a pole dancer/sex worker, may be the fourth. And in the fall Stewart will be filming the high-profile The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, reportedly to be released in two parts.
If that weren’t all, the 19-year-old actress is a 2010 Orange Rising Star BAFTA nominee (the BAFTA winners will be announced Sunday) and will reportedly be a presenter – along with Taylor Lautner – at the 2010 Academy Awards on March 7.
In The Yellow Handkerchief, which was actually made about two years ago, Stewart plays opposite Academy Award winner William Hurt (above) of Kiss of the Spider Woman and Broadcast News, Maria Bello of A History of Violence, and Eddie Redmayne. Directed by Udayan Prasad, best known for the 1997 British drama My Son the Fanatic, The Yellow Handkerchief was written by Erin Dignam from a story by Pete Hamill.
The romantic drama was produced by Arthur Cohn, the producer of The Chorus and Central Station, and of the Oscar winners The Garden of the Finzi-Continis and Black and White in Color.

The Twilight Saga star Robert Pattinson and two-time Academy Award winner Sean Penn may be joining Academy Award winner Reese Witherspoon in a Fox 2000 film adaptation of Sara Gruen’s bestselling novel Water for Elephants, according to Variety.
Francis Lawrence, best known for the Will Smith vehicle I Am Legend, will direct, while the Oscar-nominated Richard LaGravenese (for The Fisher King) will adapt the Depression-era story about a veterinary student (probably Pattinson) who, left penniless following the death of his parents, joins a traveling circus after dropping out of school. Once there, the student befriends the abused animals.
Witherspoon will play the (elephant?) rider Marlena, the wife of a less-than-friendly – or rather, a vicious, brutal, psychotic animal trainer (probably Penn). Contracts haven’t been finalized, yet, for either Pattinson or Penn. Production on Water for Elephants is expected to begin in June.
Among other announced Pattinson projects or upcoming releases are Remember Me, which will be out in a few weeks; The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, which comes out in early summer; and Bel Ami, which is currently in the works.

Kristen Stewart has received good notices for her performance in Welcome to the Rileys, and for her portrayal of ’70s rocker Joan Jett in Floria Sigismondi’s The Runaways, costarring Dakota Fanning, which was also screened at Sundance. The Runaways will open on March 19, a little over two weeks after Robert Pattinson’s solo starring vehicle Remember Me.
