Once a family court lawyer, now a primary school teacher, Anne Wilkins spends what little spare time she has writing stories. Her short fiction has appeared in Clarkesworld, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Apex, The Dark, Flash Fiction Online, Cast of Wonders, Abyss & Apex, Midnight Echo (Australasian Horror Writers Association), MetaStellar, Utopia Science Fiction, Phano, Tales to Terrify, Elegant Literature, Cosmic Horror Monthly, Small Wonders, All Worlds Wayfarer, Sci-Fi Shorts, and more. She is the winner of the Verdant Owl 2026 Writing Battle (urban fantasy genre), Fear 2025 Writing Battle (horror genre), the June 2024 Elegant Literature Prize, the 2023 Autumn Writing Battle, the 2023 Cambridge Autumn Festival Short Story Competition, and the 2022 Writers' Online Twist Short Story Competition, among others.
Anne was a finalist for the 2025 Kurt Vonnegut Speculative Literary Prize, the 2024 London Independent Story Prize (LISP), the 2025 Bristol Short Story Prize, and placed third in the Hammond House 2024 International Literary Prize. Her work is featured in a number of anthologies including Pretend You Don't See Her: The Invisible Woman, Choices: An Anthology of Reproductive Horror, and Robots: Past & Future Short Stories (Flame Tree Press). She is also a finalist for the 2026 Sir Julius Vogel Awards for Best Short Story and Best New Talent, and a finalist for "Outstanding Achievement for a Short Story" in the 2026 Te Pae Tawhiti Distant Horizon Awards. In 2025, she was a presenter at the New Zealand Speculative Fiction Summit and in the same year was appointed as a preliminary judge for Elegant Literature.
Anne's love of writing is fuelled by copious amounts of coffee, reading and hope. She is supported in her writing journey by her ever-patient husband, two wonderful daughters, and of course two feline writing assistants. The force is with her, always (or she hopes it is).
