The New Annotated H. P. Lovecraft: Beyond Arkham: 0 (The Annotated Books) Tapa dura – Ilustrado, 25 octubre 2019
Opciones de compra y complementos
In 2014, The New Annotated H.P. Lovecraft was published and devoured by the Lovecraft community and general readers alike. The landmark volume included twenty-two stories but there are many others worthy of attention, including Lovecraft’s favourites.
In this follow-up, twenty-five more Lovecraft stories are re-presented as well as a number of never-before-seen revisions and collaborations with other authors. Included are “Rats in the Wall”, a post–First World War story about the terrors of the past and the newly contextualised “The Horror at Red Hook”, which has been adapted recently by Victor LaValle. The stories magnify the creative ideas and writing processes of the literary genius. Best-selling author and editor Klinger reanimates Lovecraft with clarity and historical insight, offering a revelatory volume in which the author’s story-writing method is uncovered, his vivid dreams are recorded and first drafts of stories are seen in immaturity. In addition to his ground-breaking writing, we glimpse a personal side of Lovecraft: his favourite stories are highlighted and his vulnerability as a young writer is obvious.
With hundreds of annotations and dozens of rare images, Beyond Arkham provides the complete picture of Lovecraft’s achievements in fiction. No lover of Gothic literature will want to be without this literary keepsake.

Descripción del producto
Críticas
"If I’d had Leslie S. Klinger as my guide, I would have been better equipped to navigate the peculiarities of the Lovecraftian universe. Klinger’s depth of knowledge about the world Lovecraft inhabited, and his ability to tease out shades of Lovecraft’s personal experiences in the stories, make this volume the most exciting and definitive collection of Lovecraft’s work out there." -- Danielle Trussoni - The New York Times Book Review

5,0 de 5 estrellas Even better than the first one
Mainly I prefer the form factor of this volume since it's a little smaller and easier to handle than the first (which is still a lovely book). It includes a really nice collection of stories.. I mostly got it for The Lurking Fear (loved the artwork and original publication information contained within), but it was nice to find that it also includes some of Lovecraft's lesser known stories which are even slight collaborations such as Under the Pyramids. Many stories which fit in between these two in terms of their popularity are included
I now have the two annotated Lovecraft's and also 'Medusa's Coil and Others' and 'The Crawling Chaos and Others' and I'm really happy with this particular combination of books as a means to owning pretty much everything Lovecraft wrote in the most satisfying way to me in terms of readability and visual/physical quality of books, decided upon after very careful and lengthy research on the various current options available for doing this, of which there are many!

5,0 de 5 estrellas Beautifully done
This is the second volume of Klinger’s Lovecraft annotations and it is full of information. It comes in about half the weight of the first one ,still a large book but carrying around and reading isn’t as hard as the first. The annotations also are all closer to the page they are referring to this time. Most of of them are in the same page. This is an improvement because the first volume had some very long annotations and if 3 or so were close ,you would be flipping back to find the information.Shorter stories in this one ,one of my favorites “He” is included and I found out even more information.Leslie is very in depth and keeps almost all political/social commentary out of all of his works which is such a positive especially now and with Lovecraft.”Just the facts,Mam” Joe Friday of annotated works. Beautiful photos and illustrations inside as well.

5,0 de 5 estrellas Excellent follow up to the first volume.
This follow up volume to the 2014 annotated Lovecraft concentrates on many of his shorter stories and those not belonging to the so-called 'Cthulhu Mythos' hence the 'Beyond Arkham' title but in my opinion includes some of his very best writing. Both books are really for Lovecraft aficionados looking for more background on the stories themselves as well as revealing more about their creator and Klingor has done a superb job again in this dept with salient facts and illustrations. I wouldn't recommend this if you are new to the writer - get one of the excellent (and now pretty inexpensive) collected fictions of the author (the Chartwell Classics Complete fiction is an absolute bargain). My only criticism of this volume is the introduction by Victor Lavalle that brings up Lovecraft's undoubted racism but doesn't try to explain or discuss it but merely suggests to ignore it for the greater legacy of what he has left.
