- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 June 2011Format: Hardcovera very good story with some laughs depending on your sence of humor. it is abit long in description in some places and does have some story where you wonder why do we need to know this. but otherwise a very good story and a very good read.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 June 2011Format: PaperbackIf the first four hundred and forty five pages of this very slow burning horror novel had been as action packed and horrific as the last seventy four, it would have been an exceptional novel of the genre. Unfortunately, they were not. It just took too long to get to its spectacular and truly bloody climax. If you can wait for the payoff and you think it's worth it, by all means, give it a read. However, for me, the payoff took far too long to materialize and the long, painful wait, was just not worth it.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 August 2001A brief review... You will learn about Celtic, Irish and other mythologies, you will learn about horror, and you will love the flow and style of text. Not written like normal horrors. More interesting and informative.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 September 2003Format: PaperbackI enjoyed most of this book - it was an interesting story, believable characters and sub-plots, and the author was obviously interestingly knowledgable about the necessary mythology - BUT - it just has too many unecessarily gory/gratuitously "nasty" bits. Interestingly enough, I read this on holiday and also took DVDs of Quatermass and the Pit and Jon Miller's Oh Whistle and I'll Come. I think Mr Donnelly could learn a bit from both Nigel Kneale (on how to make a truly horrific and cataclysmic climax) amd M R James (on how to produce shivers and unease without blood, pus and god knows what else everywhere.)
(Yeah, Joe, I KNOW the Morrigan loved all that kind of messy stuff but it's quite difficult to translate on to the printed page).

Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis is an older book written in England or Ireland. Difficult to read-moves very slowly and kind of telegraphs every move. Wasn't able to finish the book
