The Captain (Telnarian Histories Book 2) Kindle Edition

From the savage death pits of the Ortung Vandals, to the murderous intrigues of the imbecile Emperor’s court, to the perfumed cages of the luscious willing slaves, the giant Otto is carving a legend across the stars. When this gladiator and chieftain of the Wolfung worlds seeks to form a frontier legion of space barbarians, the nobles dare not refuse him; they have only the courage to try to murder him. But can even an empire's might stop such a man?

  • J. COMER
1.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly tedious and offensive sexual fantasy.
Reviewed in the United States on 29 December 2016
This is advertised as a 'space opera'. It is actually an incredibly tedious spank-bank fantasy: a Roman Empire in space, complete with titles lifted directly from Livy and Gibbon, faces space barbarians with swords and spears, their names and titles taken from late-Roman histories. In other words, Lange (who writes as "John Norman") can't muster as much creativity as the hack who calls Dracula "Alucard". The less-than-threadbare plot involves a secret agent, two hundred pages of arguments over who is the biggest barbarian, and endless, endless scenes of sexual assault and the humiliation and enslavement of women, who then love and are aroused by their slavery. While there is no description of genitalia, this is essentially prOn, and isn't recommended.
