I have read this book in German about 15 years ago, and I was happy to see it is available on Kindle.

    Negative:
The Integrity of the Klingon orders is foul. But still, I'm giving 5 points, since Klingons were only portrayed in honor-terms in STTNG, not in TOS.
The technobabble leading to the Enterprise finding out how the Klingons got back in time is incomplete. The characters involved, however, and the witty talk is perfect. So, still 5 points.

    Positive:
I have not heard or seen the "here come the brides" series. But the author does a very good job of displaying Spock in a historic Earth setting. Also the reactions of the small town Seattle in 1867 seems genuine.
A scene with a girl here, some fighting there, some billard ... Spock is at his best while being forced to display his human side.
Also, the Karsid empire as a connection between Klingon an Earth history is mentioned, and is well prepared.

In my early teens I had a huge collection of Star Trek books but they made way when I discovered the higher quality Discworld novels. The questionable quality of recent Star Trek has made me a bit nostalgic and I have been drawn back to my favourite old novels. They’re often not canon but I sometimes enjoy an easy to read book with characters I love and Ishmael was one of my favourites because it centred around Spock. It’s not classic literature but it’s easy to read and fun which is all I wanted. I would recommend it if you’re looking for something with the classic characters and want to just relax and enjoy. Thanks for reading my review

Spock desmemoriado no passado, mas sempre ele mesmo. Delicioso ver o personagem às voltas com um mundo desconhecido e, ao mesmo tempo, acessível pelos pontos de identificação com os outros personagens. Aventura, suspense, ternura, coragem... ótima leitura.

I loved this story when I first read it as a teen, and I loved rereading it again nearly 40 years later. The TV show Here Comes the Brides was a favorite of mine, and I grew up on Trek. The two together were entwined very well and very believably by this author. The dual settings of each part of the story flow seamlessly.

I've reread this book many times, but it had been about 15 years since the last time because I lost the book in a move. I love it just as much now on my Kindle where it can't get lost.

Interestingly enough, some of the actors from Here Comes the Brides have Star Trek ties. Most notably is Mark Lenard, who played Aaron Stemple. He also played Spock's father, Sarek, in Trek. Joshua Brown, who played Jason Bollt, was a guest star for a Trek episode. Funny how things turn out.

This novel is an old favourite of mine. I bought the kindle edition after my original paperback (purchased in the 80s) finally fell apart. Great story involving Spock and some interesting stuff otherwise. I highly recommend it.
