Carmelo Rafalà is a child of Sicilian immigrants. He completed his MA in Comparative English Literature at the University of South Africa, as well as his MSC in Student Advice and Guidance at Central Connecticut State University. He earned his teaching qualification from the University of Sussex.
As an editor he has worked with many writers whose books have gone on to be nominated for several awards. As a writer he has sold short stories to several anthologies. His stories have been singled out by such outlets as The L.A. Review of Books, SF Revu, and BlackNerdProblems.com. He is a Science Fiction and Fantasy South Africa (SFFSA) Nova winner for 2024 for his story, "The Stars Must Wait". His Story, "The Clarity of Ice, was longlisted for the 2025 BSFA award.
His debut novella, The Madness of Pursuit, and his story collection, The Stars Must Wait, were both released by Guardbridge Books.
He currently lives on the south coast of England.
