What's the Story?

GOLDBEAK (voiced by David Henrie) is a young eagle who has spent his whole life in a chicken coop believing he can't fly. Raised by his loving adoptive mother and his tough-but-loyal sister, Ratchet (voiced by Valkyrae), he has always felt different. When he learns there might be more to his past, he and Ratchet set off on a journey to Bird City. Along the way, Goldbeak discovers the truth about where he came from and finds a new purpose with the Feathered Patrol. However, danger looms as a greedy and power-hungry leader in the city hatches a plan that could put all birds in danger. Goldbeak must learn to embrace who he truly is and find the courage to stand up for what's right.

This is a familiar yet fun animated movie that tells a classic story in a new way. The story's strongest moments come from Goldbeak's journey of self-discovery. His relationship with his sister Ratchet adds humor and heart, making their adventure feel authentic. The villain is a classic greedy leader, and while his motives are predictable, his impact on the story keeps things interesting. Some side characters stand out, like Goldbeak's wise but funny uncle and his surprising rival-turned-ally Guy (voiced by Stephen Fu).

While Goldbeak doesn't break new ground—the idea of a young hero searching for identity isn't novel—the unique setting and colorful cast of birds help keep things fresh. It's an enjoyable, heartfelt film with strong themes of family, courage, and responsibility. A fun watch for families looking for an adventurous tale with plenty of heart.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about how Goldbeak feels different from the chickens he grew up with. Have you ever felt like you didn't quite fit in? How did you handle it?

  • The villain wants more power, even at the cost of others. Why do some people (or characters) choose power over kindness? Can you think of a time when someone in real life used their influence for good instead?

  • In Bird City, Goldbeak meets birds who have different ideas about what it means to be strong or successful. What does success mean to you? Do you think being a good leader is about strength, kindness, or something else?

  • Throughout the movie, Goldbeak learns that even though he's different from his family, they still love and support him. How do you think families can look different but still be strong and loving?
