Weeknotes 2025W40
At work this week, I wrote an Office script that does a lot of copying and pasting for me. I’m really impressed with the direction Microsoft went with Office Scripts. You can write code in TypeScript (rather than learn the esoteric VBA language) and tie in all of the Office apps including Outlook and Excel. One of the tools I use a few times a week outputs data in a big .csv file and I need to manually copy and paste that data, along with other data generated during sample preparation, and set up a bunch of calculations. This new script does all of that for me, saving me around an hour each week!
The PlayStation game of the month is Viewfinder and it is absolute delight. It’s a puzzle game where you “place” 2D photos into the 3D world to navigate and solve puzzles. Along the way, you slowly uncover the story which really made me want to keep playing to discover more. Not to mention how beautiful the setting is—I was smiling the entire time. The first section was very clearly Morocco-inspired with lots of traditional artifacts and textiles. I still don’t know why, though.
I got some great feedback on my résumé recently so I updated it both online and offline. I also finally updated the now section on my home page after being out of date for a few months.
Lastly, I went to a raptor center and saw a bald eagle, snow owl, and a saker falcon (named Kaida) that was really fun. It was an outdoor area you walk around and visit all the aviaries and learn about raptor species. Really cool.
