discover new arts

In 2011, Kim Curzi founded Discover New Arts, and beneath it, The Masters Review, a nationally distributed anthology and online magazine showcasing today’s best new fiction and narrative nonfiction writers. In additional to an immense library of online fiction, critical essays, book reviews, and resources for writers, The Masters Review works with established authors to usher in, select, and guide new talent. Lauren Groff, AM Homes, Rebecca Makkai, Kevin Brockmeier, Kelly Link, and Roxane Gay, are just a few of the established voices Kim introduced to The Masters Review and affiliate publications.

Masters Review expanded its platform when Kim founded and developed the concepts and business structures behind Palette Poetry, CRAFT Literary, and Pursue Pictures. Working with a team of 8 full time staff and over 80 readers and volunteers, Kim has extensive experience in managing an editorial team, content development, and execution with a focus on using content to drive use to the sites. Kim built the business to a seven-figure sale in 2019.

flying changes magazine

In 2020, Kim acquired a decades old print magazine that focused on competitive show jumping. With an aging readership and lack of technology integration, Kim developed an online presence, revitalized an existing readership and introduced a newer and younger audience. Responsible for sourcing the magazine’s content, editorial calendars as well as the layout of magazine, Kim was also responsible for new and existing revenue streams, working with advertisers, as well as increasing subscriptions for print and online.

EDITING

Discover New Arts and Flying Changes Magazine both required extensive copy editing from freelancers and employees on formats like: short stories, essays, articles, blog posts, and social media posts. Style guides were developed and maintained across several platforms, which required consistency in grammar, punctuation, and presentation, while maintaining the different styles of writing associated with each publication’s voice and goals. Kim is a proficient copy and developmental editor who excels in editing for voice and clarity, but she most enjoys editing stories on a developmental level. To date, Kim has edited countless short stories for online and print publications.

LAYOUT AND DESIGN

The Masters Review’s yearly anthology was a printed book of ten stories that was formatted and developed for national distribution.
