The Nakba Day commemorates the Nakba (catastrophe) every year on May 15 That means two days ago
On this day in 1948, the establishment of the Israeli occupation state was declared, and the forced displacement of more than 700,000 Palestinians from their lands and villages began, a process known as the "Nakba."
The damned occupation came to us on this day, and it was a black day for those who were there at that time.
But now we are in the present, we are now in the genocide, which dates back to October 7, 2023. We have been in this war for almost two years.
Let's be honest and realistic. There has been less talk about Gaza and the issues of Gaza are not being given their due There are many massacres taking place in Gaza, but there is no longer any interest. Also, for 83 days, not a single piece of bread has entered Gaza. This is a war of famine. Donate to us, even if it is a little. This is not an order, but a request for help to complete.
The helicopter is flying directly over us and the situation is very dangerous and there are a lot of explosions. Please help me and don't ignore me.
didn't want to add this to last reblog because it wasn't super relevant and i just want to gas up stuff i like but i feel like the question of 'how do you faithfully/meaningfully adapt rough visuals to animation" and "how do you have a unique visual identity while working in the shadow of an absolute titan of animation" are answered extremely well by mob psycho and revue starlight respectively. bones' adaptation of mp100 does a ton to keep the appeal of ONE's artwork that comes from the goofy expressions, visual sketchiness, and strong compositions while still producing something that looks incredibly slick and polished. meanwhile revue starlight, especially the movie, pretty openly draws from the director's experience as ikuhara's protegee without feeling like it's unthinkingly copying utena's homework with its use of surrealism.

we need a 100 year embargo on making any ghibli inspired works of any kind. yes sorry even if the parts of ghibli you're being inspired by are the meatier thematic elements instead of the surface level aesthetics. we're done with it. you have to pick something else
i like studio ghibli's movies as much as anyone else who was raised on them but it really does feel like drawing from that well is just used by unconfident creators as a shortcut to artistic legitimacy that doesn't impact marketing and marketing that doesn't impact legitimacy. there's no real way to quantify this so this is a pretty subjective vibes-based assessment but i'd argue that there are essentially no other ips on the planet that are both as completely culturally saturated + marketed as ghibli while still managing to maintain an air of artistic legitimacy. so if you're someone who wants both mass market appeal and to be taken seriously as an artist attempting to piggyback on the air of hayao miyazaki is certainly one way to try. i dont know if a lot of people are necessarily doing this consciously but its hard for me to not see the tidal wave of ghibli inspired works through this lens
these tags are so funny to me because straight up cocoon was one of the things weighing on my mind most heavily when making this original post. i don't think much of anything i've said in the second addition necessarily applies to the creation of cocoon at all but i DO disagree that it was not trying to be ghibli. i think if you release a movie that looks as much like a studio ghibli film as you can make it without having a studio ghibli budget, with the presence of ghibli alums on the team being a selling point of the work, then you are trying to be ghibli. or at the very least openly inviting comparison.
it's tonally distinct from ghibli films in a lot of ways but i think it really failed to carve out its own visual niche at all even within the parameters of the ghibli pastiche and they really kneecapped themselves by leaning so heavily on those aesthetics. i haven't read the cocoon manga get but i'm planning to soon and i've flipped through it a bit. i always feel like its such a shame when something thats defining visual characteristic is an incredibly evocative roughness gets an adaptation that seems to consider an unpolished style to be a bug rather than a feature. i understand that there are much different technical restraints for animation that make cleaner and more consistent visuals a necessity but there's also a lot of middle ground between the two that it doesn't even seem like they tried to find for cocoon. which is too bad because i really wanted to like it!

i can’t stop thinking about adriana smith. when roe was overturned i knew things were going to get hellish but turns out 50 years of scientific innovation means an entire new branch of soul crushing horror stories are now possible. we can’t possibly keep pretending we’ve advanced gender and racial equality when we’re using a dead black woman’s body as an incubator for a fetus. a society that does that is a failed society. fuck man im trying to hold on to some measure of hope here but its so hard.
i’ve seen hardly anybody on tumblr talking about this. say her fucking name. she was 30 years old. she was a nurse and is survived by a 7 year old son.
and yes, of course her family is responsible for the cost of keeping her on life support for three months and counting. her mother set up a g/f/ndme to help with the bills. please consider giving if you’re in a position to, they’ve barely raised $3600 at this point.
How can I contribute to thwarting the displacement plan?
During the genocide they carried out, the occupation deliberately and extensively destroyed all the foundations of life:
-Water -Electricity -Hospitals -Schools -Homes -Sewage networks -Streets -Communications
The primary goal was (to make Gaza uninhabitable). After this massive destruction, you are now forced to travel and leave the immense destruction in Gaza behind, and this is called voluntary displacement.
For two reasons:
-Gaza has been completely destroyed and is uninhabitable. -Rebuilding Gaza will take at least 10 years (after the war ends; I noticed that most American newspapers were the only ones saying that rebuilding Gaza would take 40 years), and this is an attempt to achieve the primary goal, which is (migration). But it is not explicitly migration; it's travel, but long-term.
Returning to the main point of the post, how can you contribute to thwarting the displacement plans?
The only way is to support us in Gaza with all your time, money, and effort.
When you contribute, for example, to buying household necessities, providing water tanks, providing solar energy, or trying to repair partially damaged houses, you are, in this way, reducing the likelihood of achieving the primary goal of the gen.ocide we have lived through for the past 500 days.
Therefore, we are collecting donations so that we can remain steadfast in Gaza and overcome the displacement plans, and you can overcome these plans by donating to us and empowering us on the land.
