Who is behind The Spool?
Rizki Maulana, 20, Indonesian national residing in Malaysia, a student at APIIT/UCTI/APU pursuing his degree in Forensic Computing, frequent contributor to JUICE MY, shoots concerts freelance, shoots street as a medium of escape.
Why is it named “The Spool”?
It all relates back to the fact that I work as a roadie for a local band here in Malaysia, Kyoto Protocol. The Spool in film photography collects the film upon the taking of an exposure. It is the backbone of the camera, the underdog, the unsung hero. Same goes with the roadie, we are not appreciated by the masses but we are also important to the band. Though it is pretty much personal, The Spool, photography wise is named as it is a collective of exposures.
Why film?
I like the colour, I like the feel. It slows the whole process of photography down, you take time to frame, compose, and not just go on a trigger happy spree. Besides, I support the #BuyFilmsNotMegapixels movement. Although I shoot digital for work, you can consider film as my alter ego. Or digital as my alter ego
What kind of photography services are you providing?
I shoot events, especially concerts. I have been shooting numerous concerts, around Malaysia for many clients. Sometimes I contribute to various media such as JUICE Malaysia as a part of their Geared Up section or when they need to do a studio shoot. I also shoot behind the scenes (bts) for Kyoto Protocol whenever they have a show.
