Winter returns it's hold

Image
We have had a very strange winter around here. It started off at the end of last year with a lot of snow, all the ski areas were doing well, and we had above average snowpack. Then it stopped just like someone flipped a switch. We had a couple of months with nothing but wind, which I just hate. Now we have two more storms coming after getting a huge dumping of snow. All the meteorologists are trying to explain it, but I know the secret. They finally replaced the Elf...

It's our Anniversary!

Image
Today is our 26th wedding anniversary, and it must be a karma thing or whatever, since it is snowing like crazy! On our wedding day, we got about 3 feet of snow. School is closed, Skyler is happy that he gets a snow day. We will have to cancel our sitter for tonight and plan a night out for some other day. Thanks for all of the wonderful times dear!

Ski Day with Skyler

Image
I took Friday off and we headed up to Winter Park, home of the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) to ski with Skyler. He didn't get to go last year because of his spine surgery, and we are late in getting up this year due to, well, life getting in the way! It was a fun day, warm but overcast. I was struck by how little snow there was there. We have been hearing reports that while we are way behind in precipitation around here, the snowpack was still adequate. No way! There just isn't a whole lot of snow in the high country which spells water rationing this year. But back to skiing. Skyler has been going up there once or twice a year since he was a little guy, skiing in their sit-sky program. It is almost all volunteers, and everyone is usually great. This time, we were paired up with one of the few full time NSCD employees, Rick, who runs and trains people in the sit ski program. His trainee was a lovely girl named Sarah, who Skyler liked a lot. Rick is aw...

An embarrassment of riches!

What a week it has been! I have been nominated not once, but twice in the Crazy 8 meme! As I understand it, the prize patrol will be arriving at my door any moment with a huge cardboard check with my cash award and... What's that? No big check? OK, so I jumped the gun a bit there, my bad. But what I have here is even better than money. POWER! Yes, now that I control the blog world I shall rule with an iron fist... Say what? No power you say? Hmmm, I had so many plans for you all in my underground factory. Well what the heck, no money, no power, but the next best thing is bloggy love, and I am feeling it baby!! Thanks so much to Doc over at SOCIAL ZYMURGY: THE CULTURE OF BEER , and to Flannery Alden over at Prone to Whimsy for the tag(s). This comes with some legal jargon that I must attend to, so lets get that out of the way, shall we? (ahem) “These bloggers are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandi...

It Just Had To Be Snakes...

Image
This story from yesterday's Denver Post caught my eye last night. I am not one who is normally afraid of snakes, my fears lean more towards bugs. But I think if you combine the area this guy was confined to with the number of snakes, if it were me he would have a new enterance to his crawl space right through the floor! Read on: Man finds 41 snakes in buddy's crawl space By Joey Bunch The Denver Post Posted: 03/16/2009 07:20:11 PM MDT Updated: 03/16/2009 08:10:11 PM MDT Jeff Stafford pulled these 41 bull snakes from the crawl space beneath a townhouse in Westminster Sunday afternoon, he said. The cache of crawlers are unusual for their number and size for this early in the season, experts said. (Photo courtesy of Jeff Stafford) Jeff Stafford's buddy owes him a few beers — and 41 brews would still be a bargain for the colony of bull snakes Stafford found slithering in the crawl space of friend's townhome in Westminster Sunday. The 25-year-old banker had stopped by his ...

I got nothin for St Paddy's but a quick joke

Mick met Paddy in the street and said, 'Paddy, why don't you draw your bedroom curtains before making love to your wife in future?' 'Bejaysus Why?' Paddy asked. 'Because,' said Mick, 'the whole street was laughing when they saw you making love yesterday.' Paddy said, 'Stupid bastards, the laugh's on them ... I wasn't home yesterday.'

The Running of the Green

Image
This is one of the funnest races in the Denver Metro area! It is a 7K (for lucky 7, which is the old name of the race) and winds around the lower Denver area out over I-25 and then back into lower downtown. Lots of people always attend, most are dressed up, and all of the restaurants and bars get involved. It is very well supported, and provides the usual race fare and also items you don't normally find at a running race - Beer!!! It is a hilly course, and a couple of those took their toll on me as I struggled to push Skyler up them. I am really feeling it tonight. Here is a little bit of poor video if you feel inclined to see more.

Friday Randomness-a-tola

Image
Too many thoughts all rolling around in my brain-stem to organize, so I am going to do a jumble posting of weirdness that has come my way the past few weeks. Please keep your arms and legs inside the car at all times. Back when good and evil had a clear line between them, and the Tommygun ruled! Oh snap! Tell it like it is Granny. Whaaaaa?!? Actually, $4.17 isn't too bad for a good penis. At least it's under 1500 bucks now... Sometimes I forget how it was back just after the bronze age. Which is more scary? The scarves or the old ladies wearing them? Finally, I have a lot of T-shirts in my collection, and I have a lot of guts, but I am not wearing this to my local supermarket.

Texas Chainsaw Vibrator

File this under "Stories that make you wince"... By Matthew Stabley NBC Washington.com updated 58 minutes ago LEXINGTON PARK, Md. -- Some sexual experimentation landed a southern Maryland woman in a hospital with injuries tough to imagine and even more difficult to forget. Maryland State Police airlifted the 27-year-old woman to Prince George's County Hospital Center early Sunday morning after she was injured in an incident involving a sex toy attached to a saber saw blade, TheBayNet.com first reported. The man who called 911 about the incident admitted attaching the sex toy to the saw and then using the high-powered, homemade device on his partner, according to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office. The saw cut through the plastic toy and wounded the woman, according to TheBayNet.com. The injuries were severe enough for medevac, but the woman was released from the hospital Monday and is recovering from her unusual injuries. Investigators talked...

Taking Chance: Updated

I had the opportunity to sit down and watch this last night. One of Kathy's friends recorded it for me and I really appreciate her meeting with Kathy to hand it off. To try and explain how much this movie just blew me away is tough. First of all, it is only 1 hour 18 minutes long. It focuses completely on Kevin Bacon's character of Michael Strobl, although there are other characters who play important, but short roles in the film. Mike Strobl is a veteran of Desert Storm, but during the Iraq war has held a couple of posts here in the States. He feels conflicted from not going to Iraq, trying instead to stay with his family and children. All along the way during his escort duty he sees the support and respect given to the fallen Marine, Lance Corporal Chance Phelps. His trip report morphs into something a bit more than that andbecomes his personnel journal. This is what the movie is created from. The journey that Chance Phelps remains takes starts at the recovery center ...

18 years

Today is Skylers 18th birthday. I tried several times to come up with something special for a post, something that would be poetic and deep. Alas, I am neither poetic or deep. So what you will have to sit though is a photographic journey through the years. So grab something good to drink, sit back and relax, and please - no wagering. Our story starts with a premature birth. Kathy's water broke at 24 weeks, 3 months early. Skyler was born at 1 pound 15 ounces. Somewhere in utero or at the emergency C-Section delivery, he had a brain hemmorage. This is what caused his Cerebral Palsy. He would spend 3 months in the Neonatal Intensive care Unit (NICU) and come home at 5 pounds, just a few days after his original due date. Rambo and Aspen weren't quite sure what to make of the new addition to the family. Even at 3 months, he was still quite small. This is our first trip away from home to a cabin at grand lake. Skyler spent a couple of years doing Hippotherapy (riding on hors...
