Some pages and pencils from the Julia issue currently on stores in Italy.
It's a tough story - as usual, I might add - written by Giancarlo Berardi and Lorenzo Calza, and drawn by me. This time Julia and his peers are involved in a case of murder that takes place in what should be the brightest day of any couple in love: the day of their marriage.
Who is the killer? And who's the victim? And, even more intriguing, what is the relation between the murderer and all the stuffed animals his ancient house is filled of?

Sergio Bonelli tribute

Grazie ancora Sergio!
Thanks to my portuguese friend Jose Carlos Francisco (aka Zeca) for asking me to make an homage to Sergio Bonelli for his Tex Willer Blog. The number of great writers and artists who participate to this initiative is so big that I felt very humble while making this drawing. But at the same time the memory of the man whom I owe my work gave me the energy!

Thanks again Sergio!

Mr. Blond's perspective grid trick
Here's my process for this panel... The first step is sketching the layout with a 0,7mm/2B pencil
that's a 3 vanishing points perspective, no problem here for the ones along the horizon, but in this case, however, it's impossible to trace the vertical vanishing point because it falls so far from the panel that the drawing board is just too small... A good way out is to trace a perspective grid instead.
Many years ago I asked a dear friend of mine, engineer Mr.Blond, if he could solve the problem for me - how to trace quickly that grid. He thought about it and the next day he came out with this process ...
Starting from my sketch, I draw an inclined line that fits the perspective I want, then I measure with a ruler the A & B segments and calculate the B/A ratio:

next: I join the correspondent notches - here's the correct vertical grid for this panel:
ultimo passo: aggiungo i dettagli:
last step: drawing the details:

Ok, now I'm ready to ink :)
It may seem complicated, but it all takes a very short time, at least after a little practice! And it works well with tilted images too.

Romance
This is one of my favourite adventures of Julia, among the ones I drew.
Under a tremendous blizzard, kidnapped by a fugitive and stuck inside the police building, she fell in love with agent Noah!
