Check it out!

As you may or may not know, I am on the Design Team for our fabulous local scrapbook store, Scrappin' At The Pink House. It has been so much fun and has made me not only think outside the box but to create on a regular basis which I am so grateful for. (Gotta have a deadline! lol) Anyway, Michelle is the owner and she has a blog where she has lots of information about the store, classes, etc. Well, guess what? This week we completed our holiday decor projects for our monthly challenge and mine is featured first. I have been "published"! (Well, sort of, lol) Run on over and check it out. She has a really cool site. Better yet, stop in and check out the store in person if you are in the neighborhood. You won't be disappointed! Here is the link:

Prayerfully resigned...

Well, it is over. I did my civic duty for the first time in my life and I went and voted. I just felt like this was the election that it meant the most in and I had to do it. The process in my precinct ran very smoothly and I was actually in and out in less than a half hour. I understand that is not the norm but man was I happy about it!

I stayed up an extra hour watching the coverage last night and had just decided to go to bed when the announcer said that there was 10 sec left until the final polls closed on the West Coast. “Great” I thought. “I will just stay up another 5 minutes or so and see what they are saying about how the race is going there.” Oh my gosh! 10 seconds went by and instead of coming back and announcing poll percentages, I heard the announcer come back and say that Barrack Obama was our new President. What? Wait a minute! The polls just closed! How does that happen???? This whole Electoral College thing is just bizarre! Needless to say, I went to bed with a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Woke up this morning and don’t feel much better about it but what can you do? I don’t know what the next four years have in store for us with a Democratic overrun government but I know that I did what I could and the rest is left in God’s hands. I started my day off with a prayer for Obama that despite all the things heard throughout the election he will have open ears and an open heart to the will and word of God, that he will do the right thing for the people of this nation that he has been elected to lead, and that he will know the mercy and love of our Lord and be led down the right path during his term. I believe in what McCain said about putting our differences aside now that the election is over and that, whichever side you were on, it is our duty to pray daily for the man chosen to lead this country. We couldn't affect great change this time through the power of our vote, but nothing is impossible with the power of prayer!!!

I do have one funny from this morning that proved to me that I didn’t fully get my point across to Skylar the other day. When I told her this morning that Obama had won, without hesitation, her first words were: “Ewwww, that means we have to kiss girls now?” Aye aye aye!!! Lol

Give Away!!!

Not from me but from a blog I was linked to from Ronee's blog. (Thanks girl!!!)

WARNING: Political Message

Had an interesting conversation with my seven year old yesterday. Here she is with her mischievous grin:
Skylar and I were in the living room hanging out while the little ones napped and a political ad came on television. I wasn’t paying that much attention so I don’t even know who it was for, but obviously she was. She turned to me and said “Mommy, are we voting for that Ala-bama guy or Cane?” Being that I wasn’t really paying attention to the television, I wasn’t sure at first what she was talking about but then deducted that she meant “Obama” and “McCain”.

I told her that we were voting for McCain. Of course, if you know anything at all about Skylar, you know that was not the end of the conversation. At first, being Skylar, she had to disagree with me and decided she was voting for Obama. I explained to her that she was not able to vote but that if she were, she should vote for McCain too.

“Why Mommy?”
“Well, because Obama does not believe in the same things that we do.”
“Like what Mommy?”

LMAO Okay, how do I put this in terms that a seven year old would understand and summarize the fundamental differences between the two parties? So, I decided to tell her that he believed we should pay people who didn’t want to work to just sit home, he believed that it was okay to take a baby out of a Mommy’s tummy before it was born and effectively kill it, and he believed that marriage should be between two women or two men not just a man and a woman.

“Yuck,” she said. “Two women should not get married! I am voting for McCain!”

Thought that would be the end of the conversation and it was for a little while. She must have continued thinking about it though because when I tucked her in bed last night, she said, “Mommy, two women should definitely NOT get married. Then the kids would say ‘Who’s my Mommy? Where’s my Daddy?’ and they would be all confused!”

You are so right Honey…out of the mouths of babes!

(Also, in this same TV watching time, a commercial came on that said the word "sex". I was hoping to avoid that one since we had just had the other Hot Topic, but no such luck!

I heard "Ooooooh, that is a bad word!"

Trying to play it off, I said, "What is babe?"

"You know, S-E-X! That is bad."

"It isn't really a bad word. It is just a word that grown ups should use, not children. What do you think it means anyway?"

"Sex is when you kiss all the time and you don't stop!"

"Yep, that's right baby. And you only do that when you are 30 and married!"

Whew, got out of that one! lol And no, just for the record, I wasn't watching something horrible on television. It was the Nascar race on ABC. Gotta love modern cable TV.)

Craftiness

Hi guys! Things are going great with the Weas's. All the kids are doing good. Runny noses and aggravating coughs but so far nobody has been down for the count praise the Lord. The weather has gotten cooler which has been nice but it rained ALL day today. I am hoping that it will clear out by morning so I can take the kids out to do something fun. Skylar had her first Maestro Club performance last weekend. She loves to perform and sings her heart out. Got some good pictures. This one is one of my faves...
With Matt working evenings, I have had a lot of time to play in my craft room. Here are just a couple of things that I have worked on...

A necklace made from a Scrabble tile for my secret stamping sister

I made this cute little box to put the necklace in.

This was another gift- an altered note pad. It was just plain brown when I started.

And this is the name tag that I made for my card swap. I won the name tag contest! Yay!!!

I will have some more to share later as I have a couple more deadlines to meet! lol

Oh my word!!! It has been a whole month since I last posted. Wow!!! Thanks to all you guys who have been checking in and sticking with me. I have been such a slacker. I need to be off this durn computer now and making some crafties for a crop this weekend but when I saw how long it had been, I had to just do a quick update. We all are doing fine. I spent two hours in the emergency room last night with all three kids. I had given them baths and when I was getting Brayden out, I noticed that he had some red spots on his legs. Well, upon closer inspection, both of his legs were completely covered with red welts. I had Nana check it out and she said that it looked like an allergic reaction. Had it been the middle of the afternoon where I could watch him, I would have given it a little while but it was 7pm and the kids bedtime. I didn't want to take the chance on it getting worse and me having to haul everyone out in the middle of the night to the ER nor did I want to take the chance of something happening in the middle of the night while I was sleeping. So, I piled the kids in the car and off we went to the ER to be on the safe side. We were only there 2 hours which was pretty good considering. But trying to manage three cranky kids by myself, it felt like ages. Diagnosis: Hives. They gave him some Benadryl and sent us on our way. They were pretty well gone by this morning and he has been fine all day. I don't think we will ever know what caused it but I hope it doesn't happen again. It was pretty nasty looking. Anyway, no excitement really other than that. I have been busy, busy trying to make my hobby work and being a semi-single parent. Matt has been working the 6pm to 2am shift for the last three weeks so we really only see him on the weekend. He is gone by the time we get home in the afternoon and sleeping when we leave in the morning. I have done a lot better than I thought I would though. I have been working on my patience and counting to 10 when necessary. Here are a few recent pictures. I have some others to post later.

Finally an update...

I know, I know. I have been a terrible blogger again. It has been difficult getting used to all of the new schedules around my house. Matt is working nights but the days vary so it is hard to plan for. Skylar is back in school with multiple activities going on. She has Girl Scouts that will start back this week, Maestro Club (which is a musical club for the Second Graders at her school), and Children's Choir started up again last night at church. Notice a pattern with the last two? She absolutely loves to sing and dance and perform (although she confessed to me last night that she gets 'butterflies' when she gets up in front of a bunch of people, lol) She is definitely a natural although at this point it is more talent with the performance and not necessarily the vocals. Bless her heart, she tries so hard! lol

I am still trying to get everything organized. My life seems to run itself instead of me being in control and I would like to see that change. Matt has missed the last couple of weeks of church due to his schedule but I am still getting the rest of us there. It is so important these days. Brayden switched into a different class this week and was just traumatized. I had to pry him off of me and have Skylar come sit with him for a little while. I think that he is the most like me in that respect. He is not very comfortable in new environments and with new people. Hopefully he will grow out of it (although it has taken me nearly 35 years! lol) He had a good time in his class after that. It is always just the initial apprehension even though he has been with this same group since he was born. Peyton takes right to it and loves her teacher. She is getting so big. I can't believe that she is halfway to three! Where does the time go?

We made it through Hanna this weekend with hardly a limb down. Matt had to work security, of course, so the rest of the Weas clan had a slumber party at Grandma and Grandpa's. Don't know what we would do without them! It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be and we got breakfast to boot. Yay! lol

Well, anyway, here are some pics of the first day of school. They are not the best quality. My lens for my camera broke so I have not been taking any pics lately. I have my long range lens still but not good for children and close ups which is what I normally take. Maybe Santa will be good to me this Christmas!

At the bus stop waiting in the Panda dress she and G'ma made from scratch (with only minor issues, lol)

Our Big Week

Well, I don’t have pics yet because I haven’t uploaded them from my camera but I wanted to put an update. This has been a big week for the family. Mom and I spent the weekend in Charlotte at a scrapbooking convention and had a lot of fun. It is always great to get out and be with other creative people who love to create as much as you. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the classes that I took and even though one of the classes that I volunteered for was a nightmare, I enjoyed volunteering too. We shopped at the show as well but we were both really good. I think we are kind of ‘product’ed out. Lol

Yesterday was a big day for the kids. Skylar started Second Grade. My goodness, that is so hard to say. She had a good day and I believe is going to enjoy being the “expert” in her multiage class. Each Second Grader (expert) will be assigned their own 1st grader (novice) some time this week that they get to mentor. I think she will be great at it and can’t wait to hear the stories. Brayden also moved up to the 4yr old preschool at Miss Edie’s. He was definitely excited to be in the front building where the ‘big kids’ go but Peyton not so much. That leaves her alone in the back building with the littler kids. She wanted to go with him so badly. My heart broke for her. This is the first time she has had to be on her own and I know it was rough. Thankfully there is a little boy named Lane in her class that she just adores and he went and sat with her patting her hand.

And finally, Matt had a big day as well. He started his new job at the College of Charleston. He is going to be a Public Safety Officer. Right now he will be working security at the dorm but they are looking to move him into a law enforcement position on campus which would mean a significant increase and a few more benefits. We are praying that it works out. He really liked all the guys that he met and I think he is going to do really well. He couldn’t wait to show the kids all his gear when we got home last night. Brayden was excited that his Daddy was going to be a Policeman but even more importantly…he has a BIG flashlight! Lol Boys and their toys.

Anyway, I will try to get some pics up this week from the first day of school and some of the crafts we worked on in Charlotte. Hope everyone has a great week. We are truly grateful for God’s blessings.

Sunday Update

Well, it has been awhile so I felt the need to update. First, I need to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Matt got the call last week that he will be starting at the College of Charleston on the 18th. He will be doing security in one of the dorms. It is night shift but should work out great. Even though he will be gone at night, his shift won't start until 10:30 so he will still be home for dinners and tucking kids in bed. He also will not work weekends. I am so thankful for those two things and for the fact that he will not be out on the street at night.

Thought I would share some craftiness. First is my work-in-progress...my craft area. This is an ever changing space and with the addition of all my Stampin' Up! stuff, I am rearranging again. These are the befores and hopefully I will post some afters later this week.

This is my craft desk after a few projects and some temporary storage for the rearranging. Yikes!

You can see on the left my old cassette rack that I am repurposing. It is now holding all my current SU! ink and punches.

Holy Ribbon Batman!!!
This area definitely in need of work. I am just running out of space! lol

Now for a few projects.
Here are three cards that I made this week.
Didn't get any scrapping done but hopefully will get a PH assignment soon.
An owl stamp set from Cornish Heritage Farms that I just love!

A technique new to me called Black Magic. See my demo instructions coming soon on Michelle's blog for the Pink House. http://www.michelledulaney.typepad.com/ And finally a technique I learned at Patti's called Faux Silk which uses crumpled up tissue paper.

Finally, Some Crafty Things!

I finally managed to get some crafty things done this week and am excited to share. This first one is a two-page layout that I did awhile back for the Pink House. We had a design team challenge using the Zach's Life product line. I loved the papers and thought they went so well with the beach pics of Brayden. I was nervous though because I had never, ever completed a layout in one sitting and this had to be done in one night! I was so proud when I got it done on time and was even more proud when I won the contest!

This is a layout that I finished this week for the Pink House. I was so excited when Skylar wanted to sit for a photo shoot with the hat while we were in San Diego. I could just see the pics printed out in Sepia to look vintage. I am very happy with the way this one turned out because it again took me out of my comfort zone. For this one, we had to use a sketch as our inspiration and I discovered that I have an extremely hard time doing that. I had two main problems. The first was that I am a very visual person and in looking at the sketch, I could not see passed it to decide how I wanted to proceed. The next was my need to always go against the grain and break the rules so to speak. In this layout, I just could not follow the sketch exactly. I replaced one of the photos with the tag in the center, I rotated the focal picture and I eliminated the journaling under the title. All in all, I am pretty pleased.

This is another layout I finished this week. Not as thrilled with it. I still can't decide if it needs more or if it is finished. I am really a throw-it-all-on-there type of girl and don't normally leave a lot of "white space" but then there is the saying "Sometimes less is more". I still feel like it is missing something but I have got to get it turned in tomorrow so I may revisit it once I get it back. lol

Then last but not least, these are the two cards that we made at Patti's stamp club on Friday night. I love them both and can't wait to try my own spin on them. This first one is using markers and a glue pen with glitter to color an outline stamp. Very cute!!!
And this one we did using the "faux silk" technique using tissue paper. Hard to see the detail in the pics but it is really cool in person.Hope you enjoyed these. I have really enjoyed the creative time so hopefully will have more to share after the weekend. Take care and God bless.

Every Day Blessings

So, I mentioned the other day that I was going to sit down and write a list of all the things that I am grateful for in order to stop looking at the negative things. I did that and what a list! Lol I am definitely grateful for the Lord, my family and my friends. As you can imagine, they top the list, but I wanted to share some of the smaller things that I am grateful for here as they demonstrate the amazing things that the Lord is doing in my life.

Let’s start with yesterday. On the way to work, my “Low Oil” chime started ‘singing’ (Okay, I know it is the second time, Mom! Lol) So, at lunch I took it to get my oil changed and low and behold, it just so happened to be Ladies’ Day. Not such a big miracle, I know, but hey, in these tough times, $8 is $8!!! Lol Then on the way home, I knew that I needed gas but I wanted to stretch it. The gas station was on the other side of the road, not too easy to get in and out of, and frankly I just didn’t want to stop at that point. I figured surely I could make it the 15 miles to Moncks Corner. Well, something just told me that I needed to stop despite the obstacles and fill up. Not wait to get home. So, I listened to that voice and stopped to get gas. Well, would you believe that I ended up putting 17.905 gallons of gas into my 18 gallon tank??? I would never have made it home. Definitely the hand of God on that one!!!

Some of the other things that I am grateful for: my car is still running after 12 years and 279,000 miles, I have a wonderful hobby that I love and hopefully I am pretty good at, I got to visit with my family in San Diego and few weeks ago, I have a job that most days I enjoy (lol) and of course to quote Ronee, smaller boobies! LOL.

Life may not be perfect nor is it a piece of cake, but overall when I look at things, it is pretty good. I have decided to get back to crafting because that is something that is all mine and that I truly enjoy. I have a couple of things that I am working on for The Pink House so hopefully I will have some stuff to share soon. Until then, take care and God bless!

The Mustard Seed

I recently went on a trip with some of my family to San Diego (as most of you know, lol) and while we were there, my daughter and I went to a wonderful church that my cousin belongs to called The Rock Church. It was amazing and what a variety of people that it reaches out to on a daily and weekly basis. It was flashy and ultra contemporary and very, very loud, but I loved every minute of it. As my great-aunt said, it certainly "serves its purpose" and reaches out to those that might be turned off by an ordinary, more "boring" type service. (Don't get me wrong, I enjoy those too. lol) But this was something special. Anyway, while we were there, I bought a bracelet from one of the vendor booths outside and with the bracelet, the lady gave me a mustard seed attached to a bible verse. I put it in my purse and forgot about it until today. My amazing great-aunt, who reads this blog, has had me on her heart lately and so she sent me a card and a Footsteps publication to remind me to keep my eyes on the path. On the front of the card was the verse from the little card in the bottom of my purse. The verse is Matthew 17:20 and it says: "...if you have faith as small as a mustard seed...Nothing will be impossible for you." Thank you so much, Auntney! What an amazing piece of scripture and a great reminder for all of us to believe in the Lord and trust that when we walk with Him, we can overcome anything. I hope that I can pass along the importance of that passage to my children and to those around me who may not believe or who may question. While it is true that I may have been a little down lately, I have never once faltered in my belief that the Lord will see us through this troubled time. I pray tonight that I can be an example of the power of that small kernel of faith and I intend to fish that seed from the bottom of my purse and place it on my key chain to remind me in those times that I might get down. Thanks to all of you that are keeping us in your prayers and know that you all are in mine as well. Much love!
KT

Thanks!!!

Just wanted to thank everybody for all the thoughts and prayers. They have really meant so much. Still no job but there is progress. Matt has an interview tomorrow at the College of Charleston so keep him in your prayers! I am keeping my fingers crossed. Things have definitely gotten a lot harder and more strained at my house. It is hard to keep putting on a happy face every day when you just aren't feeling it. I am sad to say that I haven't been very good at it lately. I guess I need to go back and read my last post again and start looking for those blessings in the midst of the troubles. I am sure they are there. I have just stopped looking for them. Tomorrow I am going to sit down and make a list of everything that I am thankful for. Despite all the tough stuff going on right now, I truly do have much to be grateful for. I think I just lost sight for a moment.

Feeling like Job...

Well, it has been a rough time since I posted last. When I got back from CA, my plant manager and our purchasing manager were let go. Budget cuts and all that. Ben is a wonderful man though and like family so he has been greatly missed. The new plant manager is a different breed and not sure yet if that is good or not. I have had a lot of additional responsibilities added to my already full plate and have been really stressed at work. Then two weeks ago, Matt lost his job. He has been looking but the market is horrible and with the teens out of school, even the "tide us over" type jobs are filled. Don't know what we are going to do. Since that time, my car needed repairs to the tune of $600 and now we are sitting in our sauna because last night, our air conditioner decided to quit working. With temps in the 90's today, it has not been pleasant. Poor Peyton just fell asleep because she was so miserable and can't understand.

So, anyway, not to leave all of this on a sour note, I have been trying to take a page from Ben's book and putting my faith in the Lord. I know that he has a plan and that he will provide. And to quote one of our favorite movies, Finding Nemo, we are just going to "keep swimmin', swimmin', just keep swimmin' Looking on the brighter side of things, here are my thankfuls:
1. With the greater responsibilities at work, I was able to finally get my raise.
2. Matt has been home and able to get the kids when I have had to work late.
3. My tires did not blow out and the car was safe long enough for us to get it in and get it fixed.
4. I was able to wear my bikini today to stay cool that I swore I would never wear again. lol
5. My IL's and my parents have been wonderful about helping with whatever we need.
6. Ceiling fans and desktop fans are wonderful things.
7. I am living on faith and it has been amazing. For all the things that have been going wrong, everyday God shows in some little way his mercy and Love and I praise him for all that is good in my life. I know that I am being tested and with His strength will come out on the other side a better person.

For those that are still reading after another long absence, thanks for sticking with me. I hope to get back to regular posting again soon. Say a prayer for us. Know that we are strong. And thanks for all you do.

Welcome Home...

Man so much to catch up on. We are home from California and it has been a busy week. I have much to type but not much time so I thought I would just share a few pics for now and catch up later. While we were gone, the kids went and learned how to swim on me.
Isn't she just too adorable?

Swimming on her own. She is getting so big!

Even Brayden got over his fear from last year and loves to demonstrate how he can go underwater. I am so proud.

Skylar of course has no fear and jumps right in the deep end. (Notice that nose hold though. lol)
They are all getting so big and are enjoying the summer time. Lots of activities at daycare for each one and lots of swimming in Nana's pool. Oh, to be a kid again! lol

Another Skylar Funny

Skylar and I went and ran some errands on Memorial Day and had a very interesting conversation on the way.

Skylar- “Mommy, there are a thousand Gods.”

(Oh no! What am I teaching her? Where is she getting this from? Surely First Baptist isn’t preaching of more than one God! I have got to do better.)

Me- “No, honey. There is only one God.”

Skylar- “Nooooo, my Sunday School teacher said that we all have God inside of us and there are a thousand people so there has to be a thousand Gods.”

(Okay, so maybe not so bad. At least she has the main concept right. Now to tweak it a little bit.)

Me- “ You are right. We do all have God inside our hearts but we just carry a little piece of him with us. Not the whole thing. There is just one God.”

(There, that should explain it. Whew, fixed that one.)

Skylar- “So, which piece do I have? His elbow or his knee or what?”

(LOL I think we have a little more work to do!)

Backyard fun

While Skylar and Matt went to t-ball practice tonight, I let the two little ones play in the backyard so I could start supper. Their favorite thing to do is ride in the jeeps. Skylar has one and so does Brayden. Peyton just likes to play the part of Miss Daisy at this point but I think if the other two would let her, she would take the wheel and drive it for all its worth. Here are a couple of pics...

Brayden convinced her to hop out and pick up a pine cone. No sooner had feet hit the ground, he took off. I was laughing so hard that I couldn't really get a great shot but you can certainly feel her pain. lol

He came back to get her almost as quick as he had left her. I didn't even have to yell. (Although I was still laughing so hard that I don't think I could have if I tried. lol)

She then decided to play coy and act like it didn't really hurt her feelings after all.

He coaxed her back in after a few seconds and all was forgiven. (At least HE was forgiven. I don't think I got off so easy. lol)

Toothy adventures

Skylar has had a tooth that has been bothering her for quite awhile. She went and had it looked at a few weeks ago and they filled a cavity on it but she has been complaining about it ever since. We weren't quite sure how much was real and how much was attention seeking but with the trip to CA next week, I didn't want to take the chance. So...Matt had a half day yesterday and he took her to the dentist where it just so happens that mother-in-law works. They got a good xray of it this time and sure enough, she had a small abscess. Because it was a baby tooth and the permanent tooth was already pushing on it, they made the decision to go ahead and pull it. Well, Matt hightailed it out of there (He can't handle that kind of thing...MEN!) and Gwen had to hold her down but they got it out. She is doing fine now. She is a little sore but so glad to be rid of the pain (not to mention she got $2 and a 'gold' piece from the Tooth Fairy). Here is the offending object in all its glory. Have you ever seen anything like it? Pretty scary!!! lol

Skylar Funny

Yesterday I took Skylar shopping at AC Moores (craft store) because she had such a good week at school last week. As we were turning in to the parking lot, there was an old man standing on the corner with a wooden sign strapped to his back, an umbrella rigged over his head and a little boy dummy hanging from his chest. He was pointing and shouting at cars, yelling about fire and brimstone and the Judgement of God. Well, Skylar of course was immediately enthralled. She said, "Mommy, Mommy did you see that? That man had a little boy hanging on him." Trying to decide where to start, I responded, "That was a dummy, baby." To which she inquired, "Which one was the dummy, Mommy? The big one or the little one?" Oh, out of the mouths of babes. lol

5.26.2008

Memorial Day

We had a good weekend all in all. Spent most of the day today at Nana's pool where I am assuming we will also be spending most of the summer. The water was only 79. Still too cold for me but the kids didn't seem to mind at all.
Peyton wasn't too sure about the big pool. Aunt Melissa splashed her a few times and she loved that but...

this is where she spent most of her time. lol

Brayden seems to have gotten over his fear of the water and he can actually touch the bottom this year which is such a good thing.

His favorite thing was the water gun that he used to soak everyone, including me which didn't go over too well. lol

Skylar is a fish as always. She was the first one in and the last one out. She would stay in the pool all day if you would let her. She is swimming so good now. All across the pool including the deep end and her new thing is going down to touch the bottom of the pool. She is definitely my water baby.

Daddy's Love

Had a few more that I had to share from this week. We went to Matt's nephews baseball game this week and I was able to get a few shots of the kids' current obsession. Their Daddy....

They just love him to pieces. Whenever he is around everyone else is chopped liver. Also check out my photo-a-day blog over at www.ktsphotoaday.blogspot.com After much "gentle" prodding, I have decided to once again update with pics on a 'hopefully' daily basis.
