AMULET REVIEW

An ex-solider, living homeless in London, is offered a place to stay at a decaying house inhabited by a young woman and her dying mother. As he starts to fall for her, he cannot ignore his suspicion that something sinister is going on. Starring: Imelda Staunton, Carla Juri, and Angeliki Papoulia Directed and written by: Romola Garai   Coming back from war can be hard for many soldiers. They might struggle with things like keeping a job, and having a roof over their heads. It might not be their fault because they may be suffering from some kind of trauma from their time in service. It’s a nightmare at the time, and a nightmare that sometimes returns night after night in their dreams. That’s just where the horror begins in “Amulet.”   Tomaz (Alec Secareanu) is exactly that kind of ex-soldier. Life has been a struggle for him since his return, including being haunted by a dream of his time guarding a gate. He doesn’t have may places to turn for help, but seem...

THE RENTAL REVIEW

Two couples rent a vacation home for what should be a celebratory weekend get-away. Starring: Dan Stevens, Alison Brie, and Sheila Vand Directed by: Dave Franco Written by: Dave Franco, Joe Swanberg, and Mike Demski   There’s nothing like taking a nice vacation especially after putting in some hard work. There’s many ways to do that including renting a home for a few days. A time to relax in a private home, drink, do drugs, go for walks, and of course enjoy the jacuzzi. Seriously…what could go wrong?   Well Charlie (Dan Stevens), his wife Michelle (Alison Brie), his brother Josh (Jeremy Allen White), and his business partner Mina (Sheila Vand) are about to find out. The first half of the movie is very much about learning about these characters, and watching them get settled into this house. They’re supposed to be having a good time together, but things are off to a rocky start. Mina, who is also Josh’s girlfriend, gets into it with the guy who rents th...

IMPETIGORE REVIEW

Maya with her best friend, Dini, tries to survive in a city without a family. She realized that she might inherit a property from her rich family. Maya returns to the village with Dini and unaware of the danger was waiting for her. Starring: Tara Basro, Ario Bayu, and Marissa Anita Directed and written by: Joko Anwar   Any horror fan can tell you they’ve seen some crazy stories. What’s the craziest...we’ll each fan has their favorites. Now I’m not sure where “Impetigore” falls on my list, but this is definitely a wild story. One that could only come from another part of world.   It’s a crazy story, but also an excellent one. It begins and ends with Maya (Tara Basro), who’s a toll worker struggling to get by in the city. It doesn’t help when she’s attacked by a guy that has been stalking her. The man apparently knew something about where she came from, and this sparks an interest in her revisiting her past. Her best friend Dini (Marissa Anita) insists on go...

CRAWL REVIEW

A young woman, while attempting to save her father during a Category 5 hurricane, finds herself trapped in a flooding house and must fight for her life against alligators. Starring: Kaya Scodelario, Barry Pepper, and Morfydd Clark Written by: Michael Rasmussen and Shawn Rasmussen Directed by: Alexandre Aja   As a resident of the Sunshine State, “Crawl” presents a movie that’s all too real. We're faced with the possibility of the devastation from a Category 5 every hurricane season. Also, we’re all too aware of the dangers that alligators present anytime we’re near lakes, canals, and even swimming pools. Now combining the two raises the dangers to a whole new level!   Haley is a swimmer for the University of Florida, as in the Florida Gators (haha). After practice her sister calls asking her about their father, Dave (Barry Pepper). Since neither of them can reach him, Haley braves the oncoming hurricane to drive out to his house. This search for her fat...

THE DEVIL'S PASSENGER REVIEW

No one rides free. Starring: Colleen Kelly, Gabrielle Niebauer, Will James Johnson, and Steve Young Directed and written by: Dave Bundzen   A woman comes to a stop at a light, which changes her life forever. She quickly has a big decision to make after seeing a screaming woman pop up in the back of the van in front of her. Unfortunately she drops her phone, so has to decide whether to follow the van, or not. Of course she follows with good intentions in mind, but nothing good is about to happen.   "The Devil's Passenger" provides just the right amount of suspense at a perfect pace. A lot of different things could have happened when she eventually investigates the van, but they come up with a creative, and fun ending. Not a lot is said, but both actress do a good job pretending they’re scared.  Check it out for yourself, and feel free to comment!    HorrO

THE NUN REVIEW

A priest with a haunted past and a novice on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate the death of a young nun in Romania and confront a malevolent force in the form of a demonic nun. Starring: Demian Bichir, Taissa Farmiga, and Jonas Bloquet Directed by: Corin Hardy Written by: Gary Doberman, and James Wan   “Insidious” seemed to set a new era of scares, and paved the way for The Conjuring Universe.  A whole universe that’s built on scares, but the scares seem to be getting less effective as they go. It doesn’t help that what might be the best scares of the movie are given away in the trailer. Will it be any different in “The Nun?”   Another problem with these movies is that it takes so long for them to get anywhere important. It almost seems like they make it drag just so that the scares wake the audience up. Father Burke (Demian Bichir) and Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) go to the Abbey to investigate the recen...

UNFRIENDED: DARK WEB REVIEW

A teen comes into possession of a new laptop and soon discovers that the previous owner is not only watching him, but will also do anything to get it back. Starring: Rebecca Rittenhouse, Betty Gabriel, Stephanie Nogueras, and Colin Woodell Directed and written by: Stephen Susco   Talk about an awkward feeling. Sitting here writing a review about a movie featuring a person being stalked on their laptop, and wondering…is someone watching me write this? Could I be next? Double check if the green light is on! Does that even matter? Well hopefully they agree with what I’m writing! Focus…time to review “Unfriended: Dark Web.”   While not a direct sequel to “ Unfriended ,” this sequel is shot in a similar way. This time the audience is viewing the action from Matias’ (Colin Woodell) computer. Well sort of his computer, as apparently he has gotten his hands on someone else’s computer, and they want it back. He opens some familiar sites like Facebook, FaceTimes his...
