The Barn Blows Up

The first post showed the embryonic beginnings of the Warner Bros. Studios in 1919. Here we have the newly finished Administration Building that fronts on Sunset Blvd. just four years later in 1923. It looks the same to this day.

I live in a very cool neighborhood.

Let The Games - And The Naming Of Names - Begin.

The picture is of a location a block away from where I sit. I'm sitting at my dining table. However, the photo was not, obviously taken today. It was taken in 1919. The Brothers Warner had just purchased ten acres on the corner of Sunset and Bronson from a farmer named William Beesemyer for $25,000. On the land sat this barn and they figured they could use it for a shooting stage and place offices, dressing rooms, hair, makeup, costume and property offices around it. And so it began.

I feel a little like this "Barn in the Weeds" in that I'm starting this blog-thing endeavor and have no idea where it's going to go.

The real last name of the brothers was Eichelbaum, and it was never legally changed. Warner, it turns out, was just a stage name. Harry was the conservative one. Sam was the visionary. Albert was the quiet one. And Jack was the loud one.

I am all the above.

...well, maybe not Harry so much.
