a little bit aging, a little bit awakening, a little bit rock and roll

while aging, i find myself moved by deaths of people i do not know
sad for the world to go on without them
but i know it must, go on
i have gone on after my loves
left before me
there is no choice
aware of empty places
lonesome for the flesh
and blood, walking,talking,
laughing, human be-ings
memories must sustain now
8 mm clips and sound bites
rolling in our minds
we edit, we replay, a life
what if’s
never go there
it never changes the ending
never
acceptance smooths
panic attacks
overwhelming shrieking
pain of loss
a big lesson for me
learning how i can push
off from the shore to
float away in peace
mental muscles
work it, work it
baby
an awakening will
save your soul
a little bit aging
a little bit awakening
a little bit rock and roll
“i wrote this, it was fun.”

Strawberry Sunset - Poetry Pantry No. 104

strawberry sunset
paused on the horizon
peeking between
two cottonwood trees
leaves shaking in
the big wind
the strawberry sunset
hangs in my mind
between the lines
summer sun knows
the moon needs
to rise and shine
“i wrote this in Kansas, and it was fun.”
