Recently Ma bought a new bed for us to share, because SmidgeCat has been taking up all the space in mine and leaving no room for me. As you can see, firstly the new bed was not as big as it said on the packet and secondly there is some dispute in our house at the moment as to whose bed it is!
HOWEVER......... (BOL)
I do have a confession to make. I actually don’t mind SmidgeCat about and sometimes I like to lick his face in case he missed any bits... I actually don’t even mind him sharing my bed as long as he doesn’t take up all the space and, when Ma is not looking, I even like to sample his kitty food! BOL!
The story of how we got to all live together in this house is one that started in 1997, way before my time, when my boies were aged 6 and 2 and the kitties came to live with them. Silly humans thought they were girl kitties but they turned out to be boies! Fortunately they had named them Smidge and Smudge, so the names were transferable! BOL!
They were tiny (apparently) for a short while. However they grew and grew and grew. Smudge grew the biggest as you can see, becoming more like mini panthers than black cats.
When I came to live here I was tiny.
And... I can assure you that the cats were both VERY BIG.

Way Bigger Than Me!
Naturally as they were bigger, had sharp things on the end of their paws and were here first, I did as they said. SmudgeCat did teach me early on, with a swift swipe of my nose, not to invade his personal space! BOL! (He was never ‘quite right in the head’ after his altercation with a car wheel when he was about 2). SmudgeCat was the boss in this house, even over Smidge! Visits to the vet were an experience and he had a ‘Danger Warning’ written on his notes. Ma used to have to wrap him in a blanket hold him down and hope for the best.
The Boss!
In time, we learnt to get along with each other but never so far as to sharing my bed with them! They have both been beautiful cats. I think Ma has forgotten about all the birds and mice that have been brought in over the years as trophies. (Ma is never good with wildlife in the house *paws over head*) My humans have had a lot of pleasure in looking after them.
Sadly in August 2009 Smudge became very ill and we all had to say goodbye to him. We imagine him ruling the roost over at Rainbow Bridge, but with soft claws and teeth now.
RIP Smudge
Once Smidge was no longer with us SmidgeCat soon took up the reins of Top Cat around here. Actually though, he did miss his brofur and started to want my company.
Ma says he is an Elder Statesman Kitty now and he deserves comfort and luxury in his old age.
Elder Statesman Smidge
Apparently this does now involve bagsying the new bed before I’d even got a chance to try it out!
So, as you know, Dogs have owners. Cat’s have staff. It seems that, unless I put my paw down, I am one of those staff! BOL!
Actually I do again confess that I quite like his company and take it as a compliment that he likes my bed! So I hate to admit it Pals, but, although I agree in principle with the campaign ‘No Cats in Our Beds’, in practice, I actually don’t really mind it as long as he doesn’t hog it! Shhhhhh!
What can I say!
