In recent history, the president who faced a dilemma most like Trump's was John Kennedy. In 1962 Mississippi, when local authorities proved unable or unwilling to suppress a mounting insurrection, then President Kennedy exercised his legitimate authority to restore order.

Frey, meanwhile, stated that, "residents are asking local police to fight ICE in the streets, "which--wink, wink--he must be in favor of or Frey wouldn't have brought it up at all.
His and comrade Mika Brezinsky's White guests accused President Trump's administration of,"putting their thumb on the scale on these types of incidents."

I can't find anything online suggesting Busfield is gay, he's been married to women three times, and appears to be hetero. Of course, that doesn't mean he couldn't be secretly into little boys but on the surface it doesn't seem likely. However, he does admit to have tickled the boys, explaining that the set was playful. The boys would have been around the ages of 7-8 years old at the time, and I would consider any kind of physical contact like that to be inappropriate, so it does sound kind of weird to me. He also suggested that the boys' mother vowed revenge on him for not bringing the boys back for the final season of the show. Who knows the truth of that, but some women are quite capable of coaching their kids into false claims of sex abuse. Woody Allen learned that when he pissed off Mia Farrow.

The nyt headline doesn't mention his career or his success- just that he was banned for "racist" comments made on a podcast. This is the first time I've heard this, so I had to look it up (the nyt paywall remover isn't working)-

Personally I couldn't stand Adams- he's a stoner who once said he's a Trump supporter who would turn against Trump "big time," if the President did anything to curb marijuana use. And I've described his comic strip as being made up of "inexpressive stick figures." But I don't think he deserved to be banned by the corporate dictators. Per the nyt, that's his legacy.

A TV Guide article on Robert Culp and I Spy from 1966-director Paul Wendkos described the Culp-Cosby relationship as a comment on "the irony of racial inequality," guest-star Godfrey Cambridge says White people watch the series because it "provides a relationship with a negro with no risk" [of being murdered?], and Sam Peckinpah, of all people (a friend of Culp), says Bob is "incensed by prejudice- he doesn't UNDERSTAND it."
Well, Sam threw away his talent with alcohol and drugs (taking buddy Warren Oates down with him), and Culp was a brilliant actor (one of my favorites) but unbearably pompous and pretentious. He was notoriously "difficult" and that's possibly why he missed out on stardom- after Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice, he should have gone to the top, but instead the neanderthal Elliott Gould became the big name.
A lot of people didn't know any better, thanks to the mass media coverup-the well-spoken, well-groomed, polite, suit-and-tie black guy portrayed by Cosby was a myth. The rap-"gangsta" culture ripped the mask off, once and for all (and Cosby himself was taken down for condemning that lifestyle).

I can't find anything online suggesting Busfield is gay, he's been married to women 3 times and appears to be hetero. Of course, that doesn't mean he couldn't be secretly into little boys but on the surface it doesn't seem likely. However, he does admit to have tickled the boys, explaining that the set was playful. The boys would have been around the ages of 7-8 yrs. old at the time and I would consider any kind of physical contact like that to be inappropriate so it does sound kind of weird to me. He also suggested that the boys mother vowed revenge on him for not bringing the boys back for the final season of the show. Who knows the truth of that but some women are quite capable of coaching their kids into false claims of sex abuse, Woody Allen learned that when he pissed off Mia Farrow.

Actor-director “Timothy Busfield 'turns himself in on child sex abuse charges, says he 'did not do anything wrong”

From early 1988-1991, I religiously watched thirtysomething, a brilliant if liberal dramedy produced by Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz about two youngish couples and neighbors, in which the men are best friends and business partners in a small, failing, advertising agency. The show aired at 9 p.m. on Tuesday or Thursday on ABC, and was followed, for most of its run by China Beach, which we also watched religiously. Because the men in Zwick-Herskovitz' best series were always failing small businessmen, I have always suspected that Zwick, Herskovits, or both was the son of a failed, small businessman.
Whereas other supposedly creative people did experimental work as a shtick, Zwick and Herskovitz and their brilliant stable of writer-producers could make a hilarious or moving episode out of experimentation. One episode was told backwards, beginning at the end. More than one episode had fantasy episodes within a character's dream.
Another special apsect to Zwick and Herskovitz' best shows was their depiction of religious experiences, which they took very seriously.
One of the most brilliant single episodes of any TV drama I've ever seen was called “The Mike Van Dyke Show,” which was that year's Christmas episode. Although Michael Steadman was a Jew, and his wife, Hope, was a gentile, they had agreed that religion was no object. But God had something else in mind.
While his wife, Hope, sleeps next to him, late one night, Michael Steadman zombies out in front of the TV, which broadcasts a most unusual show. In it, Michael comes home and trips over his little child's toys in the living room, and wears a Botany 500 suit and hat, just like the opening to the original Dick Van Dyke Show.
A little, old man (played by the great Jack Gilford) shows up at the offices of the TV comedy show for which Michael is the head writer (again, just like the Dick Van Dyke Show). He's only wearing his union suit, because he was robbed of his Santa suit. And the man insists, like in Miracle on 34th Street, that he is really Santa Claus. But why does Santa speak with a Jewish accent?
One evening during Chanukah, Michael accompanies his sexy, female cousin (Melanie Mayron) to her shule. Alone, while he waits on his cousin, he walks into the office, where the rabbi (again Gilford!) confronts him with all sorts of sneeringly posed, rhetorical questions.
A couple of evenings later, Michael again accompanies his cousin to the shule. But this time, he runs into a thirtyish couple, instead of the old rabbi. Michael mentions the funny, old man to them, but neither they nor his cousin has any idea who he's talking about.
When I watched the show, I was living with a “nice, Jewish girl” (NJG) who was supposed to marry me (we discussed what we would name our first son), and launched my own soon-to-fail small business, my magazine, A Different Drummer. I began watching thirtysomething just after having met the NJG, and she moved out shortly after the series' last new episode aired. My favorite TV series were dying at the same time that my personal life was.
It wasn't until many years later that I realized the significance of Zwick and Herskovitz calling their production company, “Bedford Falls,” and having the actors sing, “And dance by the light of the moon.” Bedford Falls, New York, was where George Bailey and Mary Hatch lived, and where Mary sang “Buffalo Gals” to him.
The character I identified with, Elliott Krieger, was played by Busfield. Elliott wasn't as tall or as handsome as his friend and partner, Michael Steadman (Ken Olin), so he had to struggle with everything. People sometimes disrespected him.

Robert K. Tanenbaum passed away a few days ago. The only news item was in the beverly hills courier.
N.S.: Robert K. Tanenbaum (1942-2025) was 83. He had been an ADA in the office of legendary Manhattan DA, Frank Hogan (1902-1974), but quit when "liberal" Robert Morgenthau was appointed to replace the deceased Hogan. In 2014 Tanenbaum, who in 2002 had already written a powerful report on the travesty of the undoing of the Central Park Jogger Case currently available only at this blog, graciously granted me an extensive interview: “It was Fun”—Robert K. Tanenbaum vs. The Central Park Five, 25 Years Later.
In middle age and his elderly years, while maintaining a successful private law practice, Tanenbaum also became a successful true crime chronicler and crime novelist. He was one of the few public figures who had not lost his sense of the law or of morality. And he had a good run.
We shall miss him, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

10:30 p.m.
Chicago police responded to the 5800 block of South Western Avenue just after 10:30 p.m. and found victims inside a parked car in a parking lot. Investigators said a man walked up to the car and fired shots before running off.
A 19-year-old man was found with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A 41-year-old man was taken to Christ Hospital in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the torso.
A 22-year-old man was taken to the same hospital in serious condition with gunshot wounds to the stomach and back.
This shooting was not the only act of violence on Western Avenue. A string of shootings was reported and police have not confirmed if they are connected.
9:30 p.m.
Police say two people approached a parked car in the 7900 block of South Western Avenue and started shooting.
A 24-year-old took himself to the hospital with a bullet wound to his arm.
Police said he was listed in good condition.
No arrests have been made.
7:40 p.m.
Chicago police responded to a call of a person shot and found a 57-year-old on the ground in the 9200 block of Western Avenue. Police said the man had a gunshot wound to his neck.
He was taken to Christ Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition.
No arrests have been made.
GRA: "Let me see," said Lt.Columbo, "The shootings started on the 9200 block of Western Avenue, at 7:40 pm,proceeded to the 7900 block of Western Ave. at 9:30 pm and wrapped up with a murder,in the 5800 block of the same street at 10:30 pm. Therefore,the perp is either a 100 year old tortoise or an especially slow walking negro. Good day."

White, ex-husband of ohio woman, who was recently murdered (along with her dentist husband), is arrested today
GRA: Michael McKee, 37, was arrested in illinois, after the car he used to drive to ohio to kill his ex-wife, Monique, and her husband, Spencer, was identified on surveillance video.
Today he was charged with two counts of murder.
GRA: Howcum they never catch blackie murderers this easily?

WEST POINT, Miss. (AP) — Authorities say a person was in custody Saturday after six people were killed in a series of related shootings in eastern Mississippi.
Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott said in a Facebook post that “multiple innocent lives” were lost “due to violence” in the town of West Point, near the Alabama border. The sheriff told WTVA that six people were killed in three locations.
A suspect was in custody and there was no threat to the community, the sheriff wrote on Facebook.
“I ask that you lift our victims and their families in your prayers Law Enforcement is busy investigating and will release an update as soon as possible,” he wrote.
The sheriff’s office did not provide further details early Saturday, but planned a morning news conference.

(independent)Police say a(black) gunman killed six people, including a seven-year-old girl, in a shooting spree that spanned three locations in Mississippi late Friday.
Daricka Moore, 24, has been charged with first-degree murder, which “will be upgraded here shortly to capital murder,” Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott said at a Saturday press conference. Additional murder charges are forthcoming, he noted.
Scott said the alleged spree began in Cedar Bluff, where Moore is accused of fatally shooting three family members: his father, 67-year-old Glen Moore; his brother, 33-year-old Quintin Moore; and his uncle, 55-year-old Willie Guines.
Moore is then accused of stealing his brother’s truck and driving to another home, where police first received a 911 call. At the home, Moore shot and killed a seven-year-old girl he was related to, Scott alleged. Moore is also accused of “attempting to commit a sexual battery while armed with a handgun” at the scene.
Scott said Moore then travelled to a third location, where police received another 911 call. There, Moore is accused of fatally shooting two adult men from Columbus: Barry Bradley and Samuel Bradley. One of them was a pastor, Scott said.
Moore was later arrested “without incident” in western Clay County, according to Scott. Investigators believe Moore was the sole shooter, though the motive is still unclear.
