On Edits...
A: So I was reading these editing notes you made on the latest draft.
N: Yes? Trying to decipher my handwriting?
A: No, I've perfected that arcane skill. I wanted to know about this bit.
N: Which one?
A: This one that says "corpse of trees". Did you mean "copse of trees"?
N: *laughing hysterically* Yes, yes I did.
A: Excellent. Glad to know you haven't switched genres into zombie tree porn.

Rabbits & Newsletter
Reminder: The first newsletter of 2014 will go out in approx 15 hours, with the short story, "Zoe's Workshop". For details about how to join the newsletter list, click here.
Also, I have to share a funny conversation I had with Ashwini yesterday.
A: So I was driving along a quiet side street (in the city) the other day, when a rabbit hopped in front of my car.
N: *stares* What?
A: A fluffy bunny rabbit. And there was a woman on the sidewalk who threw up her hands and made an actual eeep! sound. *demonstrates high-pitched eeping sound*
N: Seriously?
A: Yes, I think she thought I was going to run over the rabbit.
N: Are you sure you weren't hallucinating?
A: No, it was an actual rabbit. A brown rabbit.
N: Did the rabbit run away?
A: No, I stopped the car and it hopped back to the sidewalk with the lady.
N: The lady who went eep!
A: Yeah, it must've been her pet.
So there you go. Watch out for people walking their pet rabbits along city streets. (00)

This Week...
So far this week:
1. I've been to to the dentist.
2. I've been to the dentist a second time. Now I'm freeeeeeeeee!! (Maybe not forever, but I'll savor the joy while it lasts).
3. Cracked the glass on a picture frame, then realized no one can tell the glass is missing, so it'll be going back up. ;-)
4. Baked gluten free red velvet cupcakes. (I used this recipe from the Sprinkles cupcake shop in L.A.)
5. Finished the last of the custard cream cookies in the cookie jar. (These are very dunkable cookies).
6. Retweeted this gorgeous image of two lion cubs.
7. And posted this quote from Archangel's Legion on Facebook. Here it is for those of you who aren't on FB. I hope you enjoy!

Kisses down her throat. "I wouldn't wish my consort to suffer ennui."
Chest heaving...she managed to say, "Ennui, yes, that's exactly what I feel right now."
His eyes glinted. "So, my consort challenges me. Very well."

Friday Book Club
It's Friday again and time to talk about our favorite books. What are you reading and enjoying at the moment?
Happy Thanksgiving to those of you celebrating the holiday. I hope you're having a wonderful day!
p.s. According to my spam folder, Salma Hayek is sending me emails about fitness. I'm touched she cares. ;-)

Trash talking Kiwis and an Aussie
Since I have a book due verra soon, I don't plan to campaign for the DABWAHA this year. Instead, I'm going to sit back and enjoy the show.

Rugby Fever
(Everyone should be able to comment now - email me if you're still having issues).
In honor of the fact that we're all rugby mad in NZ at the moment because of the Rugby World Cup, I think it's time to repost this:

Typo Hall of Fame
Sometimes when I'm editing, I find typos that make me do a double take. Like this one.
...dark eyed beauty with curly blonde curls.
Because obviously curly hair isn't curly until it's in curls.
*facepalm*

Editing (Behind the Scenes)
2pm: Hey, these edits are going really well. I should be all done by 7ish.
5pm: Awesome, only a few more changes to enter from my printout to the file.
6pm: Yay, all done. I just have to read through the changes to make sure I didn't make a typo.
7pm: Dinner was delicious. Now, off to read
8pm: Hmm...this scene doesn't quite read right. *makes note to go over it one more time*
9pm: This other scene needs a bit of smoothing, and I think there might be a small continuity issue. *note, note*
10pm: *obsessively working on scenes*
11pm: Need to double check this research fact.
12pm: *obsessively working on scenes*
12.30am: See above.
1am: Realize I am likely the only one who will ever notice this one thing, but I must fix it or it will drive me insane for eternity.
1.15am: Hey, I like that. That works really well. Happiness.
1.30am: Brain to self - it's time to let go. It really is. You're happy, remember?
1.40am: Self to brain - I think I should do another read to quadruple check everything.
1.45am: Brain to self - send it. Also you're starving.
1.50am: Self to brain - just one more read to make sure the changes I've made don't impact on later scenes.
1.51am: Brain to self - just one more.
1.55am: Hey, scene actually does work great. I'll just fix this little thing here, and this other little tiny word here and...hey, didn't I just change this sentence back to how it was half an hour ago? I think it's time to stop and let it go.
1.57am: Brain to self - I'm not saying a word...
2am: Yay, I sent it! And I'm so starving.
Here endeth your insight into the mind of a certain writer.

Teijan
Author Jess Granger recently started a #TheRatIsHot campaign on Twitter, in support of a story for Teijan. She even wrote a haiku to convince me. I thought you'd all enjoy reading it!

Monday
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! I completed the almost-final draft of Kiss of Snow. Woohoo!! It's off for a beta read, and in the meantime, I'm working on copy edits for Archangel's Consort.
I also managed to twist my ankle - so it's working from the recliner for me today. Now if only I had a butler like Montgomery...
Also, while you're blog-hopping, drop by this post at Babbling About Books and leave a comment supporting Kate's contribution to the "It Gets Better" anti-bullying campaign. She's pledged to donate $1 for every comment, up to $500.

Aww....
One of my (awesome) friends posted this on her Facebook page, and I had to grab it and repost. How adorable are these two?!
I've actually seen them nuzzling at each other - they really are best buds!
Also, if you are on FB, and haven't seen my new author page, here's the link.
So, any cute pet stories to share?

Kindle Reminder & Random Goodness
First, a reminder for those of you who buy books on Kindle. There is another Nalini Singh who releases her books in that format, so please check my website or email me before buying if you're not sure it's one of my releases.
Jaci Burton is giving away an ARC of Bound, Branded & Brazen (out March). I've already had the chance to read this and it's awesome! Hot enough to singe your eyebrows off and full of the emotional connections I love in Jaci's work. Excerpt link.
(Both Monica's and Jaci's contests are closing soon.)
This is the typo I repeated most often in my most recent manuscript: "back" instead of "bag" <-- I have no idea why, because it's not like the keys are next to each other on the keyboard, and there's an extra letter even! #mysterious
